Around SBN: VIDEO: Austin Rivers' Buzzer Beater Finishes Off UNC

Crazy start to the season

Wow, it's beyond bedtime but was worth staying up late to fast-forward through a few games on the DVR.  Didn't know how things would go after seeing South Carolina and NC State take turns pulling each other's pants down.  In the words of Wilonsky, it was "terrrrrrrrrible".  BUT, did anyone catch the opening sequence of ESPN college football with Harrell to Crabtree being, I think, the 3rd highlight shown?  Not sure if they'll show the same sequence before every game but could maybe at least expect it for the first few games until they start building up some 2009 highlights.  Was sweet to see once again.
I was strangely intrigued by the North Texas game and was happy to see them get a win that they so desperately needed.  Not sure how much of a measuring stick Ball St is without Nate Davis but was a little impressed with Riley Dodge's ability to throw on the run.  What's not impressive is his high school way of carrying the ball on the run.  Come up against a better defensive team and he'll be a turnover machine and probably get his clock cleaned a few times.  Tuck the ball away and slide, son.
I figured the night cap would the best football.  I've always been a fan of the Smurf Turf and Boise didn't disappoint in the first half.  But, boy, did that second half get ugly.  Turnover after turnover.  Oregon looks hopeless on offense and looked like Tech trying to tackle Maurice Clarett on defense.  But the ugliest part of the game wasn't until it was over when a Boise St player taunted the Oregon starting running back (who had said, before the game, that Oregon owed Boise St an a** whoopin') and he turned around and punched the dude in the face with Boise's head coach already trying to restrain his player.  Then the fool went all Ron Artest and tried to get into the stands to take on some fans.  I hope the guy never sees the field again but big programs always seem to find an excuse for any player conduct.  Sad.
Soooo, all that to say be sure to catch the opening sequence of an ESPN-broadcasted game this weekend and you're sure to relive the greatest play in college football last year (oh yeah, and they are also obligated to mention that Graham Harrell was named player of the year by the fans last year each time they bring up voting for player of the week..nice!).
I'm giddy but I need sleep.  Wreck 'em!

Crazy to get started, too

That Oregon tailback (Blount) may have been taunted a bit, (probably just got asked what happened to the *ss-whipping), but that’s what happens when you run your mouth before the game. He went off the deep end for sure. He was even punching his own teammates when they tried to get him off the field. He’s been in disciplinary trouble before. I’d show him the door for good.

On another note, I also saw the Raiders flash by in another of ESPN’s collages – had the team in black coming out of the smoke. The UT game if I had to guess.

I found that Oregon game frustrating and mistake-filled

But Blount going off the deep end after the game made it all worthwhile. Especially since he displayed more power in that sucker punch than he did on his 8 rushes for -5 yards.

I haven’t seen a sucker punch like that in quite a while. And it wasn’t even during a play, which is what shocked me the most about it.

What do people at DTN think Blount’s punishment should be (given the trash talking before the game and all)? Surely it will be at least a couple games. And will his status as their starting RB factor into it? Should Boise’s DE get punishment for taunting also?

How do you think Coach Leach would respond if one our players did something that stupid?

Sanctions on Blount are impending, but they will be coming from the University itself, not the Coach or AD

ostensibly because it occurred after the game ended, but probably because he’s going to get crucified as an example to others. Most of the debate about this is going to devolve into arguing over whether or not the fact that Hoyt smacked his shoulder pads and got in his ear was a mitigating factor, but really that’s besides the point (though I will point out that the reason Hoyt is not looking for the punch is because his head coach, Chris Peterson, has just grabbed him to tell him he is acting like a jackass- by contrast, Oregon coaches make a much, much later appearance).

Having watched the entire incident live, I can tell you that sucker-punching Hoyt was probably the most excusable (relatively speaking) thing he did on the way off the field last night. Beyond that, he almost started a fight with one of his own teammates, and then attempted to pull a Ron Artest on hecklers in the Boise crowd before being forcibly dragged off by an ad-hoc committee of security personnel and Oregon coaches. It was, by comparison, an off-the-charts display of inexplicably violent and antisocial behavior.

Coach Leach would make him sit in the middle of a boxing ring at midfield and study for a week straight. Then kick him off the team anyways.

UNT Game

Gotta give those guys a lot of credit stepping up in a nationally televised game on the road. North Texas played great and looked like things may be turning around. QB made all the difference. Dodge(QB) will need some improvement but he’s definately a winner and is poised to bring better days to the team.

Gotta stay up later..

I knew the Boise State / Oregon game was over, so in the 4th quarter i killed the tv, and went to sleep.
Missed the punch, then saw it on ESPN.
Seeing that this year Oregon has a new head coach, we might see him make an example out of him.

NCAA Football Grad. Rate: Texas Tech 79%, Baylor 78%, Oklahoma State 62%, Texas A&M 56%, Texas 50%, OU 46%

Oregon pretty much sucks. Not much else to say about that.

Boise isn’t known as a defensive golliath, so the Ducks must REALLY suck. So do their duck uni’s.

I loved the sign in the crowd(heard it on the ticket because I fell asleep at 11:00). “Oregon is like Paris Hilton, famous for doing nothing and having a rich daddy.”. I love Boise fans.

Don’t the people of Oregon know they should be called the Drakes? That’s the equivalent of calling the Chicago NBA team the Cows.
