Texas Tech University is one of the Top schools in country
Although people from Texas and Texas A&M can lay claims to having a higher rankings than Tech in some categories, They do not rank in all categories over Tech.
I thought about this after reading a post about Recruits and quality of education at Texas Tech. So I put together some interesting stats which are the 2009 or 2010 rankings.
Texas Tech School of Law is ranked 9th and has more students pass the bar than any other school in Texas and does better than Yale or Harvard in passing the bar. Not only that but Texas Tech is ranked one of the best in the country for cost of education to become a lawyer.
School of Engineering is a rising star nationally. Texas Tech has risen in the rankings more than any other school nationally over the last 5 years. Currently Tech ranks 78th out of the the 213 accredited schools nationally and out of the 1200 schools which have engineering programs.
In the graduate level of Engineering national rankings:
Petroleum ranks 10th
Civil ranks 65th
Electrical 65th
Industrial 26th
Wind 4th
Mechanical 95th
Chemical 48th
Computer 70th
Engineering Graduate school overall rating 48th
Business School ranks 77th out of 150
MBA ranks 94th
Chemistry ranks 90th with a graduate rating of 67th
Mathematics undergraduaterating is 97th with a graduate rating of 103
Geosciences 86th with a graduate rating of 41st with Geochemistry ranking 4th in the nation.
Physics ranks 118 and graduate level is 116.
What this list shows is that Texas Tech is one of the top schools in the nation considering that there is more than 300 schools with programs equivalent to Tech and the fact that there is some 1200 schools nationally who offer degrees but whose programs who are not accredited and severely substandard.
Texas Tech is in the Top 100 nationally across the board. That means that Tech does well even with Ivy league schools.
I pulled these stats from TTU official websites and the US and News World report who does University rankings. There are other ranking systems out there which sell the ranking to those who are willing to pay for their placement or other corrupt means. One of the worst is Top universities.com which was caught selling ranking positions by the Washington Post.
Thus for any recruits out there, Texas Tech is a top school and the cost of graduate school is a bargain where some of the top categories Tech Ranks in the Top 40 which is considered by US News and World Report as the elite programs in the US.
Hats off to the Students, Alumni and Faculty of Tech who have made the program one of the Nations Top Universities in the US.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors.

Glad to see us rising. This just goes hand in hand with the state’s program to make us a Top Tier school.
Just one clarification – According to the Texas State Bar figures published every year, Baylor and TTU are the two law schools which perennially lead the stats in passing the Bar exam on the first try. They run around 98-100% every year with a huge drop-off to around 80% and below for UT and the rest of the pack. Over the last 25 years or so, I think Baylor holds a slight edge over Tech, but you need a magnifying glass to tell.
kayakyakr
Physics department and the Math department are keeping us just slightly out of number. If both those departments improved by no less than 4 points then Tech will be listed.
Another item that was brought to my attention of a friend
Bo a Friend of mine pointed out after he read this post that Texas Tech Health Science Center Schools for Pharmacy is ranked 71 and is one of only 87 acredited in the nation for 2009. The only other programs in Texas who is on this list is UT, Texas Southern and U of Houston .
Baylor did not make the List nor did Texas A&M make the cut either.
Texas Tech Health Science Center School of Nursing is 91st and ranks 3rd nationally for cost of education for an MBARN, RN, or other Skilled nursing degrees.
Actually
Baylor has a School of Pharmacy. They got a the same grant Tech got from Eckerds Drug Stores.
Not only that but Texas Tech could reach Tier 1 Status by the end of the Spring Semester of 2011. Tech is exactly 21.5 million short of the funding that would get Tech the status. Tech already satisfies the academic requirements but fell short in funding. The State is supposed to have funded in 2007 and 2008 the matching funds which would have made Tech a Tier 1 school this year. But because of the slump in the economy, the State just did not fund according to the prescribed amounts that they agreed to do in 2007.
Thus the fact that Tech raised in private donation to date of just little more than 26 million goes a long way to getting Tech to that Magic Status. Thus according to the Board of Education, Tech is short exactly 21.5 million. That amount by the way is the exact
Continued
Sorry the board went crazy and posted this before I was ready then kicked me out to the SB Nation home page.
Anyway, Tech is short exactly what the State is supposed to pay out by law. Thus as soon as Tech gets the funds, the end of the following semester will bring the new Status. Thus Tech should be by Fall of 2011 a Tier 1 School. Its possible to Tech to get it in 2010, but it boils down to how many donations people give the school and if the State actually pays up as they are required rather than just post pone payment which they are doing right now.
As a Juris Doctor graduate from another school who gets awesome undergrad respect, but little law Sch. Respect (Tulsa) I have to agree that bar passage rates DO mean a great deal. I wasn’t good enough for the “elite” law schools, but I passed the damn test the first time. Alot of those rankings are based on the GPAs and test scores of those accepted (all disciplines). IMO, more attention needs to be focused on the quality of education, not things like how many prize winners (who rarely TEACH) are on a faculty. You can all go to Hell, I’m going to Texas (Tech).

That is a very good stat
But the issue is quality of education and quality of the degree when the players leave school.
But you are right! Texas Tech is #1 in the nation with graduation rate with players finishing their degrees.
Seems like we were #1 in public schools? I thought there were like NWstern, Wake, etc… in front of us?
Your right
I was looking at public and the 2007 verses the 2008. But the is very little difference between 2007 and 2008.
Texas Tech is tops for a State school. What is even more impressive, is that Texas Tech is doing it for 60% less the money that Texas and Texas A&M have in their respective budgets for their sports programs.
Texas has a private tutoring budget that is equal to Tech’s mens Basketball budget for the whole year.
We were #8 in the nation when private schools were added to the mix, #1 in public universities. And the numbers included even kids who quit school, transferred, etc. Once a kid starts at your school, you are stuck with his performance academically, even if he quits; otherwise you could just transfer the guys that were slipping, etc. to skew the numbers. That was the system used in generating those stats iirc.
