One career possibly over, one on the brink

Sad news for a couple of stellar former Red Raiders. Zach Thomas was released by Kansas City, possibly ending his amazing pro career. And Danny Amendola was released by Philly, possibly putting an end to his NFL dream before he played a regular season game.

Thomas was injured (nobody seems to be saying what the injury was) and was a non-factor. Amendola did well, though he dropped an easy TD in the pre-season. He may end up on the practice squad again if he's not claimed off waivers.

Guns up to both.

Danny will be on a practice squad if he isn’t picked up for an active roster. From all indications, he was the last-man out from philly.

I was about to say the same thing. He’ll be on their practice squad, and if another team picks him up off their practice squad, he’d be active for I think four weeks.

After all is said and done, more is said than done.

Considering

Amendola was one of the Eagles top all purpose players, it is unusual for a team to release someone who is so productive. But, after all, the NFL is one of those institutions where if you want to succeed, you have to dress like, talk like, act like and look like the top players. Well, maybe not that severe, but close. I just wonder how many players have been denied opportunities that, if given them, would have had steller careers. I think if some team does not pick up Danny, he will turn out to be one of those players. He has the capabilities, no doubt.

Zack has been one of the best ever, and it is sad that his career may be over. But, look on the bright side, now he might be available to join the Tech staff in some capacity. How GREAT would THAT be?

not bad

not a bad 17 weeks pay

“The minimum salary from 2008 to 2010 is $5,200 per week (2008-2010)2 for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season…….”

I’d love to have made 88k for 1/3 of a year when i was 24….Hell I still would

I remember Zach making great plays against Miami in Lubbock, and how many remember his game winning pick-6 against a&m? Sad to see him go but he’s had a longer run than most.
