OU's Gresham out for season

Man, you never like to see guys get hurt and miss playing time, but it turns out OU's Jermaine Gresham is going to be out for the whole year.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4455155

This is very significant for OU, as well as the rest of the Big 12.  At the moment, the OU game looks a lot more winnable for Tech.  Gresham was their go-to receiver and was probably the best tight end in the country.  He tore Tech apart last year.  Like Bradford, he passed up the draft to come back and try to win at OU.  With Bradford out (they say 2-4 weeks, but I keep hearing that that injury is hard to judge) and now Gresham, OU's offense is looking quite questionable.  OU would have been better off having both of them enter the draft so they would have all spring and summer to fill the positions.  Now they're thrown into panic mode as they have to deal with two highly critical needs.

They still have a very stout defense, but we all know that you need some serious offense in the Big 12 South.

You gotta think that UT is the pretty clear favorite now to win the Big 12.  What is everyone else's thoughts about this?  I think this is huge news for us, even though you never want to see somebody go down like this.

I can’t believe Gresham is out for the season. Now it seems that it is a 3 way battle for the South instead of a 4 way battle. Hopefully no more injuries for anybody. I think our chances for a shot at the South have increased greatly. Unfortunately, at somebody else’s expense.

This sucks

I can’t stand OU for one second, but I don’t ever want another team’s players to get hurt and not just for the obvious reasons of having humanity, but also from a standpoint of wanting to beat them when they are at their best and strongest. Now OU will have excuses WHEN we beat them :)

Talk about an injury bug…they got one this year.

I say Bring On Texas

It would be nice to win in Austin and make all the Pundits have to eat the rotten crow crap they have been spewing about Tech.

No changes

This changes nothing for Texas Tech. I hate to see anyone lose a season, especially due to injury. Tech has had players go through this and it does hurt. Unfortunately, OU has no time to prepare someone else to take his place. Also, if Bradford misses any of the Big-12 conference games, the Sooners will really be in the old pickle barrel. I am not sure we win in Austin and Stillwater, but you never know. This could be the year we have all been hoping to see, sooner than expected. What the team needs to do is obvious: clean up their mistakes, get a mean streak going and play like every game is for a national title ….take no prisoners. Now, if OU does get “fixed” quickly, there is no telling what will happen. All we can hope for is the best, nothing more.

the worst part for the Sooner O is that

while their #2 tight end is a talented player in his own right, he is currently too busy starting at center on OU’s new-and-unimproved offensive line to be Gresham’s backup.

It's really too bad that he came back only to miss his senior season, but

he’s got a bright future in the NFL, so it is definitely in his best interests to have the surgery and start pt and rehabilitation asap, rather than trying to play through the pain and risking permanent damage.

I wouldn't count OU out yet...

They recruit well, and while TE may not be a focus for their offense now, they have talented backs and a good defense and Bradford could return in time for their schedule gauntlet.

You have to feel for these kids who come back for a season when they could have easily jumped to the NFL and the riches that brings. I hope for his (and Bradford’s) sake he can get on the field this season. Besides, I’d rather beat OU at full strength.

Isn’t it kind of weird that OU has two players that could have easily made the jump to the NFL but stayed only to not play, while Tech had two players that did make the jump to the NFL and who are not playing (Crabtree and B.Williams). I wonder if in hindsight, either one of these guys ever wonders how it might have been different if they had decided to stay.

The OU back up QB not good

The RS Freshman looked so lost it was unreal. He did not practice in the spring as all the other backup QBs transfered out. Thus OU has a QB that has only seen the Sooner offensive playbook for what is now 2 months. He has taken snaps with the playbook for less than a full month and spent his time running the scout team offense for some experience behind center.

But that is not the same thing as we all know! He looked greener than Sherwood Forest when he went into the game against BYU when OU was still up more than a TD and could not get the offense going to even get the team close enough for an easy field goal.

So I do not hold high hopes for OU this season. I really think they lose about half their games for the season if Bradford can not make it back before November. Based on the current comments. Bradford is out for no less than 5 but could be out the season.

The issue is how bad his tendons and ligaments are torn. If it was bad enough for a dislocation, then Bradford is fundamentally out for the season as that is extremely painful and takes in reality 4 months to heal based on NFL QBs who have had this problem.
