Congrats to Ruffin! Does anyone else go with him?
Thoughts?

Is it just me or..
Is it just me or do others agree that its a good thing that we did not hire this jerk as our HC:

I thought it was kind of funny. I’m sure he meant no malice…

I wonder...
what Spike (his dad, hopefully everyone already knew that) thinks about that comment. This whole time Spike has been a Leach supporter and was very mad about the situation that lead to Leach getting fired.

You suck Sonny you worthless piece of trash!! Talk about biting the hands that feed you. You put up a nice goose egg against Nebraska with quality athletes….let’s see where La Tech goes with your crappy players.
Congrats Ruffin McNeil! Classy guy — the anti Sonny Dykes!

Eh… after seeing Dykes’ press conference, I have to disagree with you Cory.

Caught passes from him on the JV squad in HS
Sounds as if he hasn’t matured much since then.

YAAAAYYYY YYYAAAAAYYY YYYAAAAAYYYY YYYYAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY
This is amazing news, some I had been hoping for. Ruffin, while maybe not wanted or not believed to be ready for the Tech job now, is a great person, destined to lead fine young men to higher plateaus. AND this is his Alma Mater. How wonderful for him; probably more exciting to him than even a similar position anywhere else, even Tech. I hope he does really well there and can lead the

OOPS!
Should read “…..and can lead the Pirates to a conference championship and maybe a big bowl. That would sure make the Tech admin rethink who they did NOT hire, especially if Tuberville fails to meet expectations. The link to ECU athletics follows….”

I am happy for Coach McNeill..and for Coach Dykes
I am looking forward to seeing them both build their staffs.
I am wondering what kind of offense Ruff will install, who will he find as an OC, will he DC his own team ?
I saw Dykes comment and actually heard it on a video, I thought it an ill-timed effort at humor and nothing more.

Press Release from ECU
“Coach McNeill’s interview revealed his strong commitment to doing things the right way and his love of coaching young men to grow in every part of their lives. " Holland said. "His excitement for what ECU Football can become in the future was contagious and his deep and abiding appreciation for what East Carolina University has meant to him and his family was truly moving.
“There is no doubt about his ability to lead ECU Football to new heights and his determination to guarantee that happens under his watch,” Holland added. “He intends to bring new and exciting offensive schemes to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, combined with an aggressive defense that will be designed to get the ball back in the offense’s hands.”

You can count me as one…Wishing the very best for Ruffin and crew…
Between UH and Rice, I should get an opportunity to go out and cheer for them next season!

And concerning Leach and Tewxas Tech
The AJ has this
“State District Judge William Sowder on Thursday ordered Leach, Texas Tech and their attorneys to complete mediation by Feb. 5. He also placed gag order on the talks.”

If I’m not mistaken, this is standard for any civil suit.

It is
just not so early in the lawsuit – usually is later in the game after discovery is substantially complete
by jeffinhouston on Jan 21, 2010 7:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Could be
The judge is trying his best to get both parties to shorten this whole mess now before it does get into a trial and maybe more is said or revealed than either party would be comfortable with. I guess you could say he is giving them all a safety line to hold or to release and plunge to certain “death”…..just a metaphor guys…..

Indeed !
That is why it is a standard step in any civil suit, but more for the opportunity to resolve the case quicker, and at less cost to the taxpayers, there are other cases on the docket, probably lots and lots and lots…

There goes the Love
I’ll not forget when Ruff told Daniel that he loved him. He said that to his players on a frequent basis, and you know that he meant every word from his heart. Ruff is bigger than life itself, and not afraid to put his heart into anything. His wife, Erlene, has that very same quality. If there were only more people in this world like them, well, this place would a better world to navigate in. I personally love the McNiells and I wish all the very best to two of the finest people I have ever had to pleasure of knowing. I can only say Thank You for being a huge part of my son’s life. I will never forget all the great things you did for Texas Tech, my son, and our Sundays in your office watching game film drinking coffee. Bring em from everywhere, I love ya brother.

Lincoln Riley will be his OC according to FWST
Former Texas Tech defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill became the first black head football coach at East Carolina on Thursday, and one of his former Texas Tech co-workers, Lincoln Riley, will be his offensive coordinator.
