I will be rooting for them. I hope it doesn’t happen but, if these guys have more success than Tubs won’t all of us in the Team Leach, keep Ruff and Riley crowd be pissed!!!!!!
Now, I’m praying that doesn’t happen but just an interesting though that what many of us wanted here is actually intact at another school.

success will be hard to measure. CUSA vs. Big XII.

No chance of players here transferring to ECU right? Would they?
What a crazy off-season this has been. Craziest off-season I can remember.
by VirtuaCory on Jan 22, 2010 9:39 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Very little chance of that, I would think. You don’t see wholesale transfers when coaches quit/get fired no matter how popular they were. Plus, it’s a looooong way from home for about 95% of our roster.
by Tech92 on Jan 22, 2010 10:06 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree, little chance of current roster
But am a little (only a little) concerned about guys still being recruited. Seems a lot of them have spoken to our new staff and are still committed.
However, the majority of these recruits were very positive about Ruff and Riley so that combo is a little concerning to me.
My hope is Ruff won’t go after the guys committed to Tech. But business is business and I guess I wouldn’t blame him. However, pretty big difference btw Con USA and Big12, not to mention the two programs.

I’m still happy for coach Ruff and coach Riley even with the concern about recruiting. Wish them big success at ECU.

Football office is having a hellacious day
dealing with tons of phone calls from Ruff and Riley’s recruits. Doesn’t look good for Tech from the recruiting standpoint.

Chris Level said on the radio this morning that Ruff and Riley have called some of the recruits, but that none have interest in going to ECU.

I just know what I was told…. and its pretty reliable.

Wasn't this the same source...
That told you just a few days ago that recruiting was going better than expected?

Good point,
but they probably thought it was before this happend.

This worries me....
If you hear anything else, please let us know.

I'm lost.....
These two coaches have been out of the Tech picture for 2 weeks. Why would recruits be calling and causing concern now?
by TTUMAR on Jan 22, 2010 2:13 PM CST via mobile up reply actions 0 recs
They have been out of the Tech picture, but not in another school’s picture. These were our main to recruting guys while they were here, now they are the HC and OC at another D1 school. It doesn’t surprise me a bit that they are calling old recruits, or that some of the recruits are listening.
by RdrPwr on Jan 22, 2010 2:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I really don’t see any of our recruits going. Maybe some might go after being here a year and realizing they are going to have to wait to play, but defiantly not right now.
by ST04 on Jan 22, 2010 2:38 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Don’t you all think that Ruff has his own recruits to worry about—keep in mind Skip Holtz left to go to South Florida: sunshine, hot co-eds, and chance to play Miami, FSU, and UF. Ruff is probably trying to salvage ECU’s recruiting class and I’m sure he will call a few others.
Also, not only is it big 12 vs. conf. usa, but think of TV exposure, facilities, BCS games, and miles and miles away in cold East Carolina.

still makes zero sense...
Saying Tech and ECU are both “D-1 schools” is like saying Ferrari and Hundai are both cars. I seriously doubt these kids think the two are on the same level.

Just as long as it's a a C6-ZO6, I'll take that over the Ferrari....

ECU has 19 commits, they have room for more
All the commits are East coast players…that is a long way to go for a Texan…but it would be fun.

LOL, Lincoln Riley has his hands full.
Last season’s ECU roster shows that they ran out of the Power-I…I hope Riley can find a good staff to help him make the change over…
It will be interesting to watch the offensive team’s progress…
Their 19 recruit commitment list does not show one wr, a TE, a rb, an athlete, 2 qb’s 4 OL.
The defense is already in the 4-3 so there is simply the thought of maintaining…
For defense they have recruited; 4 db’s, 4 lb’s, 1 DE, 1 DT. One of the lb’s is big enough to go DE, and one of the DB’s is big enough to get to lb.
I am thinking they could use some receivers…

great news
That is awesome and I hope both these guys have huge success at ECU. I will be following their program in addition to Tech now. I hope Captain Leach can find a good home as well.

Glad these guys will get their chance to shine. Can’t wait to watch them this season along with my Red Raiders.

A couple of thoughts about the hires
1st—I am very happy for Coach Ruff, he got an HC job, which is clearly a career goal for him…and in a location that he knows as well as at a school from which, given their success, he can make a good next move. Best wishes for great success as an HC !!!
2nd—I have been looking forward to seeing who he would get as OC, both to see what offense would be run, and to see if he would try to get Riley. Two thoughts here, one is that it gives a degree of credibility to Riley’s work towards the success at the Alamo Bowl. We will never know how much he contributed (and I am willing to think that Ruffin McNeill knows), but we can be more open to the thought that he did more than simply execute Mike Leach’s prepared plan. The second is more about TTU’s possible future. Neal Brown is a very bright, well-respected, up-and-comer as OC. There is every reason to believe that he could be open to a next move in his own time….with Riley growing his career at ECU, he is one to whom we could enjoy seeing making a career move to TTU as OC if the opportunity arises.
It is pretty late to see much impact on recruiting by that team…I wonder what Fred Harvey, who just commited to Memphis, is thinking.

+1
I hope Riley can come back, but with the three stooges I have my doubts. That change still needs to occur.

DTN's plan
Not Texas Tech’s plan. Lotta difference there. GOB influences still there, so we may NOT see a change, unless “someone” retires or “another” steps down. Still “others” need to be replaced. Now, who ensures all that happens? Who knows? All we can hope now is Leach’s suit, regardless of ruling, has enough of a negative effect that those “parties” are all gone, sooner rather than later. This for the salvation of the Texas Tech sports programs across the board.

Congrats to both Ruff and Riley
Now I have a good reason to continue to fly my pirate flag…right underneath my TT flag! My new 2nd favorite team!

I guess the upside to this mess is its kind of like players going to the NFL....
We get to watch people who made their bones coaching at Tech go somewhere and bring success there. I’ll be excited to check in on ECU next season from time to time.

Best of luck to Coach Ruff!
Things work out for good people. He’s going HOME! HE really couldn’t ask for a better situation. As for Riley, he gets a chance to grow up in C-USA. In my opnion, he wasn’t ready for the Big XII as an OC. Give him 3 or 4 successful years and who knows.
I’m not concerned about them taking TEXAS recruits…that’s a LONG way from home. He may take a shot at the LB from Tennessee that didn’t want to go all the way to Texas. He’ll have PLENTY to choose from in FL and the southeast.
We should all wish him well and root for him…WHILE we continue to support the ATHLETES and COACHES at TTU (to hell with the Administration!)

ECU receivers

Do you think we could spare at least 1 receiver? Baby James needs a place to be coddled. I hear that ECU has installed beds and fat little girlfriends in all their electrical closets.
