Ruff gets hired within the week…
Also… I love those kids… makes my heart smile to see them get the win and be in high spirits.
This actually sucks
Because they will name Ruff as the coach.
Welcome all to the dark days of Red Raider football.

I will worry about a new perm coach tomorrow. For now, I am thankful we had Ruffin to keep things calm.

Did anyone else notice
ruff seemed not to know sticks was going in? his head snapped back when he saw potts still on the sideline
This would shock you how?

No
He was surprised that Potts was coming over to question the move

Ruff get's the job
Not sure how excited I am about the future if this is the case however. The defense is way shaky and I am not sure he is capable of fielding one that can stand toe to to with the likes of UT and OU on a regular basis.
He will hire a strong defensive coordinator
and defensive talent level is increasing with new recruits
by jeffinhouston on Jan 3, 2010 12:21 AM CST up reply actions
right
as all the offensive recruits look somewhere else

too many things to deal with as the head coach

Let us not be so drunk with victory
that we forget about the dismal defensive game the Raiders put up today.

Exactly
against an 6-6 team with missing starters on the offense.
Seriously.

Ruffin has already been quoted that he'd take a pay cut to hire the best DC he could if he was hired head coach

After that slobbering ass kissing job he gave at the end, I’m sure he would say anything to get the job. It’s kinda hard to respect a guy who begs so blatantly, for me anyway

I agree
That’s one reason I loved our Captain so much.
He was his OWN man.

Beers tonight, but I'm celebrating with a heavy heart. The dark cloud over Lubbock will linger for a long time to come.
I’m not ready to throw in the towel. If Ruff is hired he will hire a defensive co. And hopefully move Riley to offensive co. All we really need is a defense anyway.

Better order a truckload of chapstick
For Ruff if he’s gonna kiss Myers’ ass like that

He was being smart about it.
I know he “feels” like he shouldn’t have said that, but it’s nut cutting time and he did the right thing. I think it was a slap in the face to the admin for him to say that he had faith in them when we know he doesn’t.

let's not forget
that we gave up 31 pts to not only a average Big Ten team, but one without all those players suspended. I like Ruffin too, but his defense wasnt exactly good tonight!
It will be hard to tell
what difference the new coach makes.
No matter who our coach is, we know that UT, 0U, and OSU will be tough to beat.
Ruffin gave an impassioned speech at the awards. Hard to root against him.
by Tech92 on Jan 3, 2010 12:26 AM CST via mobile reply actions
maybe he needs a D coordinator but I love the guy as a head coach. love it. he will recruit like crazy. he will keep the offense intact and he will make the powers at the top happy. although i still am going to keep emailing hance to fire myers and whoever those idiots on the board of regents are.
Great
Nice to see we get the right guy to keep those knuckle draggers happy. I’ll be sure to root for that.

Lincoln Riley won the night
not Ruffin McNeil. The offense looked snappy and Riley was much more willing to take advantage of Tech’s blocking advantage on the edge than Leach has been all season. The defense looked motivated but pretty inconsistent. Ruffin’s a great recruiter but I swear to sweet tiny infant Jesus if I see Tech’s linebackers empty out the middle of the field to cover WR’s while the safeties stay in cover 2 deep 8 YARDS FROM THE GOAL LINE, I am coming through the screen. Tech’s weakness on defense isn’t running quarterbacks, it’s quarterbacks who decide to run. Anyways congratulations to the team and Mike Patrick I hope you die in a fire. That is all.
I agree, we would be undefeated if this where the case.
Maybe our game at Texas would be the only loss. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that problem will be fixed come fall 2010.

It's easy to take someone elses team and get an inspired win in a bowl game.
The hard thing is to recruit, coordinate, train, coach and motivate a team for an entire year. Only then will we know how the team REALLY does respond to Ruff. Tonite was surreal, and not an indicator of the quality of a coach.
by raider realist on Jan 3, 2010 12:26 AM CST reply actions 2 recs
i think ruff already does a lot of the “team” atmosphere and recruiting. I think keeping riley intact will keep the O humming. maybe we need a D coordinator but that being said I remember a few years ago when we just said if we had a top 50 D we could win a national championship. Well ruff has given us a top 50 D so….
/agree
i would also just note that in most of the recruiting stuff i’ve read over at rivals.. most people that get mentioned by the recruits are ruffin and riliey more than leach (exception for qbs )

Congratulations
Inconsistent play on defense. Strong finish. May be good to promote Ruffin so as to get a good X and O guy on defense. Ruffin needs to be on the recruiting trail. He is a people person, not a tactician. Now it is time to focus on privatizing Myers, Bailey, and Hance.

Maybe Ruff should just be the Head Recruiter if that’s what he’s best at.

Bowl games are really meaningless.
It’s hard to tell much from them. Ole’ Miss would have pounded us in the Cotton Bowl.
Switzer won a Super Bowl with Jimmy’s team, but that damn sure didn’t mean he was a good coach

he also said that Okie Lite turned the ball over 6 times on their last possession
I do not think he is very aware of what is on the teleprompter

Defense......
We gave up a several long plays and that has been unusual this year,,,, I do think it was harder than Ruff thought to be HC & DC. I think he would hire Stewart(?) from the NFL and I really like what Riely did…I don’t want Briles/Dykes so if it is Ruff I still think he can get us players and hire DC/OC that will make a difference! Wreck’Em Tech
candidates
None of our potential candidates really stood out so far.
Sonny Dykes – 0 pts
Kevin Sumlin – 7 Int, loss to Air Force
Ruff – 31 pts to Mich St
Tuberville beat the shit out of his bye week

they looked confused on those 4th down plays
It does kinda sound cool

That would be an interesting deal.
Was Gruden more of a defensive guy? All I can remember is Warren Sapp mudering opposing QB’s while he was @ Tampa. Thought to ponder.

Just a thought
Didn’t Sonny Cumbie call the offensive plays tonight and Riley just signalled them in?
TTpilk
everything I've read and seen indicated that Riley was taking over playcalling duties
didn’t see Sonny so I assumed he took Riley’s usual spot in the booth phoning in observations and suggestions.
by mojavereject on Jan 3, 2010 12:36 AM CST up reply actions
also it's not like the Air Raid is a typical offense in that 'playcalling' isn't as big a deal
as shuffling formations and personnel groupings while making sure your QB is making the right checks at the line.
by mojavereject on Jan 3, 2010 12:40 AM CST up reply actions
No
Riley called the plays. Sonny did what he’s done all season and worked from the booth

These radio guys are totally kissing TTU @$$

it was
a good win. I think MSU played better than a 6-6 team, and there were very big coaching decissions made. and he did a good job!
You talking about the same game?
The Alamo Bowl we were supposed to win 60 – 24?

Another thing
Both teams were playing under adverse conditions. The fact Tech won means our guys overcame better and pushed harder for the win, especially after Stix entered the game.

NICE
From CBSsportsOnline
The wide receiver, son of ESPN analyst Craig James, got a hostile reception all night from the crowd, who booed the sophomore so loud that it drowned out the marching band at halftime.

And this BS
But this was still a Leach-built team. And in his offense, just about any quarterback thrives.
that was the only thing I didn't like

"In Leach vs. Texas Tech, there was no doubt where the fans sided Saturday. "
Really? B/c I thought the announcers clearly implied that there were lots of people on both sides of the issue.
Go Bama
This week has been hard enough. Don’t know if I could take another downer

Loving Sticks
Just imagine if he got the reps and the starts for an entire season.

It was a pirates swagger that won in the end.
The captain would expect the rum to flow and the voices be raised…
So this ones for the captain, and another for the lads. And here’s to you Bama,
for the enemy of my enemy….
You can bet
that if, IF, Ruff gets the job, one of his conditions of employment will be to substantially increase the playing time of A. James because James is staying right there at Tech. This will be Hance’s payback to daddy. Ruffins promotion would only be to throw oil on the waters, but Ruffs contract will have some obscure performance clause that can’t be met and he will be let go or demoted after next year, giving Sowell and Co. time to find some yes man to fill the position. Someone who will kiss their collective asses at dinners. Something a man of intregrity, like Leach, refused to do. Kinda like what Jerry did when he hired Campos after shit canning Switzer.
I was kinda thinking that helicopter dad might pull his baby out of school. With the crowd reaction, the death threats, the security guards, etc, no telling what kind of reception he’ll get when the students get back on campus. There’s bound to be at least a few confrontations.
"I’ve established a reputation for integrity. I have maintained those high standards" - Craig James
The Tech Version of Simms/Applewhite
Does this mean that they are gonna bench or cut the playing time of a deserving receiver next season for James who is clearly not a starter because who his daddy is, sounds familiar!!!!
While that is true, Myers would just fire all the students to battle that problem.
Yes, he is that stupid.
