Ruff gets hired within the week…

Also… I love those kids… makes my heart smile to see them get the win and be in high spirits.

This actually sucks

Because they will name Ruff as the coach.

Welcome all to the dark days of Red Raider football.

I will worry about a new perm coach tomorrow. For now, I am thankful we had Ruffin to keep things calm.

by Tech92 on Jan 3, 2010 12:19 AM CST via mobile reply actions

Did anyone else notice

ruff seemed not to know sticks was going in? his head snapped back when he saw potts still on the sideline

by farmerdave on Jan 3, 2010 12:19 AM CST reply actions

It seemed to me that on his last series Potts slower to make decisions , I think Riley probably has seen this before and sent Sticks in to ramp up the offensive pace. Good decision on Riley’s part.

by xwvr on Jan 3, 2010 12:30 AM CST up reply actions

Ruff get's the job

Not sure how excited I am about the future if this is the case however. The defense is way shaky and I am not sure he is capable of fielding one that can stand toe to to with the likes of UT and OU on a regular basis.

by djthekidd on Jan 3, 2010 12:19 AM CST reply actions

He will hire a strong defensive coordinator

and defensive talent level is increasing with new recruits

right

against an 6-6 team with missing starters on the offense.

I’m not ready to throw in the towel. If Ruff is hired he will hire a defensive co. And hopefully move Riley to offensive co. All we really need is a defense anyway.

Ruff as a head coach with a d coordinator and o coordinator (riley is awesome) would be the best. Ruff has all the tools to be a head coach and is a great guy. i want the best for him and love the guy.

He was being smart about it.

I know he “feels” like he shouldn’t have said that, but it’s nut cutting time and he did the right thing. I think it was a slap in the face to the admin for him to say that he had faith in them when we know he doesn’t.

let's not forget

that we gave up 31 pts to not only a average Big Ten team, but one without all those players suspended. I like Ruffin too, but his defense wasnt exactly good tonight!

by jeff99ttu on Jan 3, 2010 12:25 AM CST reply actions

It will be hard to tell

what difference the new coach makes.

No matter who our coach is, we know that UT, 0U, and OSU will be tough to beat.

by Tech92 on Jan 3, 2010 12:26 AM CST via mobile reply actions

maybe he needs a D coordinator but I love the guy as a head coach. love it. he will recruit like crazy. he will keep the offense intact and he will make the powers at the top happy. although i still am going to keep emailing hance to fire myers and whoever those idiots on the board of regents are.

by Damien Franco on Jan 3, 2010 12:28 AM CST up reply actions

Lincoln Riley won the night

not Ruffin McNeil. The offense looked snappy and Riley was much more willing to take advantage of Tech’s blocking advantage on the edge than Leach has been all season. The defense looked motivated but pretty inconsistent. Ruffin’s a great recruiter but I swear to sweet tiny infant Jesus if I see Tech’s linebackers empty out the middle of the field to cover WR’s while the safeties stay in cover 2 deep 8 YARDS FROM THE GOAL LINE, I am coming through the screen. Tech’s weakness on defense isn’t running quarterbacks, it’s quarterbacks who decide to run. Anyways congratulations to the team and Mike Patrick I hope you die in a fire. That is all.

by mojavereject on Jan 3, 2010 12:26 AM CST reply actions

I agree, we would be undefeated if this where the case.

Maybe our game at Texas would be the only loss. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that problem will be fixed come fall 2010.

It's easy to take someone elses team and get an inspired win in a bowl game.

The hard thing is to recruit, coordinate, train, coach and motivate a team for an entire year. Only then will we know how the team REALLY does respond to Ruff. Tonite was surreal, and not an indicator of the quality of a coach.

by raider realist on Jan 3, 2010 12:26 AM CST reply actions   2 recs

i think ruff already does a lot of the “team” atmosphere and recruiting. I think keeping riley intact will keep the O humming. maybe we need a D coordinator but that being said I remember a few years ago when we just said if we had a top 50 D we could win a national championship. Well ruff has given us a top 50 D so….

by logan5555 on Jan 3, 2010 12:30 AM CST up reply actions

/agree

i would also just note that in most of the recruiting stuff i’ve read over at rivals.. most people that get mentioned by the recruits are ruffin and riliey more than leach (exception for qbs )

Congratulations

Inconsistent play on defense. Strong finish. May be good to promote Ruffin so as to get a good X and O guy on defense. Ruffin needs to be on the recruiting trail. He is a people person, not a tactician. Now it is time to focus on privatizing Myers, Bailey, and Hance.

From CBSsportsOnline

The wide receiver, son of ESPN analyst Craig James, got a hostile reception all night from the crowd, who booed the sophomore so loud that it drowned out the marching band at halftime.

You can bet

that if, IF, Ruff gets the job, one of his conditions of employment will be to substantially increase the playing time of A. James because James is staying right there at Tech. This will be Hance’s payback to daddy. Ruffins promotion would only be to throw oil on the waters, but Ruffs contract will have some obscure performance clause that can’t be met and he will be let go or demoted after next year, giving Sowell and Co. time to find some yes man to fill the position. Someone who will kiss their collective asses at dinners. Something a man of intregrity, like Leach, refused to do. Kinda like what Jerry did when he hired Campos after shit canning Switzer.

by TTU-KP on Jan 3, 2010 6:24 AM CST reply actions

I was kinda thinking that helicopter dad might pull his baby out of school. With the crowd reaction, the death threats, the security guards, etc, no telling what kind of reception he’ll get when the students get back on campus. There’s bound to be at least a few confrontations.

Does this mean that they are gonna bench or cut the playing time of a deserving receiver next season for James who is clearly not a starter because who his daddy is, sounds familiar!!!!
