Wow

This kid plays a lot faster than I thought he would. I’m glad we got him.

Yeah

I’m trying to figure out why some triple option team didn’t give this guy more of a look. And he’s not afraid to hit someone either, especially on offense.

Yeah, but is he immune to Kryptonite?

Looks like that might be his only weakness.

I was very impressed as well

but actually not that surprised that he appears to be a much better athlete than his star-rating would indicate. Tuberville knows how to field a defense, and I have faith in that if Tubs saw something in this under-the-radar guy, he must be pretty good. I think the fact that we have offered this kid despite him being relatively unknown shows that our current staff knows exactly what they are lookin for in a player and don’t let the high number of starts blind them from true talent that can be applied to a strong system like we will have with Tubs&Willis.

Do Whaa!

Holy Moly! Some recruiter just threw up.

This is an impact player..

This guy is a Tim Tebow clone. He’s faster than his measurables, tough, smart, and has no “give up” about him. I realize these highlights show him in the best light…but my favorite play was on defense when he penetrated deep..took away the outside lane…then ran the ball carrier down. Although it was positive yardage for the opposing team, it says a lot about Mr. Carmical.

OMG!

This guy makes Tebow look like a punk …. how did he go under the radar?

I heare they just got dial up!

That play really stands and does say a lot about what kind of player he is. The 95 yard touchdown carry was pretty impressive, too, along with his GPA and ACT score. He should be very exciting to watch.

Here is some more video

on Carmical being interviewed after the State championship game. He’s not only a a good football player…he’s poised as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOBqGT877eY

This kid is nothing short of a beast

I’ve watched an entire highlight film one time in my life, and that one time was just now.

LOL I know what you mean. I was so into it I was surprised when it ended.

Excited

I agree with jdhud here. That play where he tracked the ball carrier down, shows this guy is a hardworker and does’t give up. It’s also pretty easy to see why the guy is a winner. Unless I am getting someone like Ray Lewis or Zach Thomas, I would much rather have a smart and hardworking guy like this, than a 4 star athlete that can barely get the minimum grade needed on the ACT.

Best athlete on the field

Give Willis the chance to coach him up and find a way to use him effectively in the new defense. He makes plays and we need defensive playmakers.

Should make a for a good LB

Kid can manuver well and makes good reads. Having the experience as a QB will really help him navigate the passing game as a LB. I hope we blitz more and bring kids in with more speed like this guy. From what I’ve seen here this kid is a solid pick and has good size and athleticism.

4th and goal against UH, Potts or Carmical?

by MFAB91 on Jan 30, 2010 2:22 PM CST up reply actions

This guy's a gamer

He plays a lot faster than his 40 time indicates. He runs a lot like Batch does, which is the type of running i love. He can sling the rock a lil too. Crazy that nobody has offered this kid besides us. He can be real special here at tech.

This just in...

TT is going to the WILDCAT !! I would not be suprised to see some wildcat formation with Joe in it. Remember Willis said he does not recruit kids to “redshirt”. I don’t see him getting a lot of MLB play this season but he will be the starting MLB for 2011. Kid is way smart, has great footwork, reads the offense well and likes to hit !! Are you sure he was not playing against 8th graders in these game highlights? Kudos to TT & Willis on this find.

by MFAB91 on Jan 30, 2010 2:20 PM CST reply actions

Solid!

He is a very solid player, capable of making plays on both sides of the ball. Like everyone else, I am amazed he has flown under the radar, especially from UF, since Tim “Jesus” Tebow is graduating. Carmical is the real deal and should have no less than 4 stars by his name by the recruiting places like Scout and Rivals. He will play next year, somewhere, and could be the surprise of the year in all of college ball. With as many great players returning and, hopefully signing on this week, 2010 season is looking really good with the schedule being what it is. I really see no team that can play with Tech, IF they play up to their potential, I don’t care how many stars are next to the players’ names on the other teams.

What's up with only 3 Stars

Either Arkansas football totally sucks or he is a beast 4 star. Sergio Kindle did not look that good in high school. I know in a 3-4 defense the front three need to play strong so linebackers can make the plays but, with him at linebacker, our front three will look awesome. He reminds me of a Zach Thomas only stronger, taller, and faster. Wreck Em!!!!

who cares about star rankings?

You can always use athletes on defense, regardless of what alleged ‘scouts’ think about them, and this kid certainly is an athlete. This kid is a steal for Tuberville. I thought it was a terrific pickup when I read his numbers and saw that he played QB for an undefeated team; seeing him on video just shows me he is even better than I thought he’d be, and I thought his numbers made him look like a helluva player. His closing speed is oustanding; he’s simply a beast.

He looks to be playing in a 4-2-5 defense from some of the fronts they showed, so he should be an easy fit in the middle of the 3-4. I could also see Tuberville wanting to unleash that athlete by putting him at OLB, too. Either way, he’s going to be a successful player. Excellent pickup by Tuberville.

Thanks Beergut.

While you tend to test our patience at times, you do have a good eye for talent. This year’s Tech / A&M game should be a doozy. If Tuberville delivers as expected, you guys will be harnessed by our defense and steamrolled by our offense. So looking forward to that day. Adios amigo.
