Ummm…I had a golf outing today but followed a bit on my iPhone. What in the world happened?? Why did we run it almost as much as we passed? I seriously have no idea what happened…did we just suck from the get go?
Tubs is committed to the run..

It was 21-0 before Tubby put on his head set
"I spent 18 months, off and on, with the script writer. I might as well have not spent one second with him." Don Haskins.
I’ll copy and paste this here for my thoughts from the game. I’m just glad I wasn’t at a computer during the game as I know I would have typed some things I would regret later, but then again, I really wish I wasn’t sitting at the game getting sunburned for what I got in return. I feel kinda like I was bent over a barrel.
A couple of things…. The stadium felt dead. DEAD. There were times when I could hear people talking in an entirely different section. Even before the crappiness of what was the game started, I felt like I was at a grade school powder puff football game, except with less enthusiasm. I’ll admit, I didn’t help the enthusiasm any, but I typically don’t stand and cheer when the Nazi’s are rolling their tanks down the street just for the sake of being positive.
Our play calling and effort matched the apathy of the stands for sure, and maybe pink was an appropriate color, because our guys played like pink lady parts and I think our coaches are pink lady parts. We were freaking down at the end of the first half with TWO timeouts left and nearly a minute on the clock. Hell, I remember when a minute was enough to drive 90 yards for a score. WHAT THE HELL!?!? You can’t redeem your timeouts for a hot dog at the concession stand. They don’t freaking roll over to the next half. CALL FREAKING TIMEOUT and make an attempt to score. Instead, they run the freaking clock out and walk off the field. Same thing at the end of the quarters. With 20 seconds left, instead of runing a play and trying to gaing ground, they just stood there waiting for our pink lady parts coaches to call something, only to walk lazily off the field when the whistle blew. If you’re up by 17, sure, that’s fine. It is NOT fine with me when you’re down. There, I feel better. Ok, no I don’t.
I think I saw a total of 3 or 4 plays that were intended to get more than 4 yards through the air. The rest were all dinks and dunks, and the passes were poorly thrown, poorly caught, and quickly covered. In order to make yards with dinks and dunks, you’ve gotta hit people in stride to let them make YAC. Potts was way off target the entire game.
As for the pink, being at the game I can tell you, I hated it. I know, I know. I shouldn’t talk about fashion and football, but pink and football go together like peaches and chocolate milk. I’m all for finding a cure for breast cancer. Really, I am. I have had family touched by it. But pink and football? It’s hard to get all rowdy and riled up when you’re dressed like cotton candy.
As for the team, lots of work to do for this team. I just don’t know if anything else can be made of this season. I think the coaches have lost this team. Was just a very piss poor performance out of coaches and players, and nothing there to excite the fans.
I’m not looking forward to this stretch of games. It feels like Tubby took a look at OSU and said, “well, they’re rankes so they’ll probably beat us…better just try and keep it close.” That’s what it felt like. I remember days when we could beat the number 1 and 2 team in the country when we weren’t anywhere near the top 25. Ah well, so long so long, ye glory days.

We are a flag football offense
when we don’t go downfield at all….you actually need some touch passing then also.

And as for the run...
Well, it worked 1 or two times out of 10. I felt like we had only two running plays on the card, and kept on running them over and over and over and over until OSU made a mistake. Kinda like we were playing a scrimage and trying to work the kinks out. Only it was a game, and the loss goes on our record, and we just made it that much harder on ourselves to get a winning season much less a bowl game. And we blew a 60 year tradition of home wins vs. OSU.
The summary of the game for me: it felt like a really well attended practice with poor execution.

"you can't redeem your timeouts for a hotdog..."
That’s the only laugh I’ve had since my sunburned outing at the Jones today. Hell, I had just peeled off the last pieces of dead skin from last week before putting myself in the oven again today. Though I’d did wear a cap.

What other records can we break this year

not pumping sunshine…but if we can somehow get by Colorado, I think we beat UH and I know we beat Weber…that’s six wins.

Soooo, I take it this place is gonna suck to be around this week, huh. Man, I’m glad I didn’t watch the game. I’m at a loss…just read several game recaps and it sounds like we tried to become a running team a week after showing what this team is capable of on offense. I’m stunned…and no longer willing to see what Tuberville will do. I guess most of the folks were right. Tuberville doesn’t want a spread offense.
I’m not a conspiracy guy but what if it’s part of his master plan…to run tech into the ground and then build it back up in his image. So he can take credit. Nah. Too far fetched.
I don't think the running game was the problem.
Just looked dead in all areas. OSU scored at will, our guys looked tired, the crowd was tired, Tubs was tired.
Batch looked good at times, but nothing else stands out.
We just need a nap.

But a 50/50 mix, or close to it, is not what a team like Tech does and then expects to win. We HAVE to be able to hit 350 passing yds a game or we won’t win. Simple as that.
correct.
because we damn sure aren’t going to stop anybody. We have to score 35 and hope we can hold on to win. This is 2003 all over again…

I thought the reason you didn’t like Mike Leach was because he didn’t run the ball enough.
Now we run too much???
Strive for Honor Evermore! Unless you’re a Regent or Administrator…
We didn’t run enough. But this is too much a swing the other way. I didn’t like Leach because he didn’t play defense enough. Apparently, Tubs doesn’t either. We’ll make a hire one of these days who can put it all together. Maybe.
After that comment I don't think you're qualified to say either way

Think we’ll hear anything like this again soon?
Weeden went to his top receiver often and successfully. He found Blackmon four times for 74 yards in the first quarter alone.
He was in Lubbock in 2008 when the Red Raiders beat the Cowboys 56-20 when both teams were in the top 10.
“We came in here … and everybody just, they beat the crap out of us,” Weeden said. “It’s just a big feat for us, because this is not an easy place to play.”
That was before we established our new traditions under our new HC

I am sick of this whole team. Every part of the game sucked today. Also I’m tired of the post game responses. STOP making excuses and fix them. These are the same mistakes we have made week in and week out, fix it already. Open the offense up try new players make something work. I’ve seen troy play this year. Their offense is way different than ours. I don’t see why we are using a watered down version of the spread. Sure we can run the ball and have some good backs, but we are also extremely efficient at passing the ball too. My advice to Tubbs is fix it, stop making stinking excuses and just fix it.
by ST04 on Oct 16, 2010 8:56 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
Problem is...
Tubs idea of “fixing it” is to got back to a smashmouth SEC style offense and defense. This smacks of Auburn. He attempted to install the spread without ever understanding what the spread was (nevermind that he didn’t have the players to pass pass pass), so he installed a half-assed version of it that was NOT successful and then reverted to old school SEC when it didn’t work. I’m afraid that he will retreat into his comfortable shell again as he sees TTU’s offense sputtering rather than opening up the throttle. However, this time when he reverts to smashmouth football, we will be in an inverse position from Aubern in that we don’t have the players to run, run, run.
The spread is at it’s best when it’s spinning at around 8000 rpm. The probelm is, the coaches have choked it down to 3500 rpm, and instead of opening it up when it stalls, they’ll just turn it off. NASCAR is the worst anology for the type of offense we’re running right now. More like go-kart derby with a little bumper car action thrown in. Open it up and let it breath! AIR IT OUT!
"They challenged us. They said, 'Here, try to run past us, try to run inside us.' And they were better at preventing that than we were throwing and catching it." --Mike Leach
There is no smash mouth football anymore.
I’ve been thinking about writing a post, but this is a different game. South Carolina beat Bama last week because they OUTSCORED them. This is a different game in 2010. I don’t think our coach grasps that when he lets the clock run out at the half and talks about the running game.

Tubby welcome to the Big 12
I can already here his post presser at the end of the season,“Well, I guess we didn’t win any chamionships. We will be better next year. Got to get my kids in here. Got to run the ball. Don’t forget the YMCA youth fund raiser next week, see you there.”
"I spent 18 months, off and on, with the script writer. I might as well have not spent one second with him." Don Haskins.
So, since I didn’t watch or listen to the game I feel a bit odd complaining about this one. But I did read the play by play chart on ESPN. Was Potts just way off or did the receivers have no space, or what? And why, down so much, did we continue to run the ball every other play?
Yes on all counts.
Potts was off, the receivers dropped passes, they had no space, and Potts got sacked alot.

There is no way this guy can be a head football coach. Our media is afraid to ask the tough questions. We need to demand that our media gets tougher on our HC and holds him accountable.

He said that Potts competed for all 4 quarters,
When he got hurt they asked Tubby if he thought about putting in Sticks and he said no, they waned Potts to stay in the pocket so he could pass down the field. Which is really strange because, all we did was hand the ball off to Bath and Stephens all day.
"I spent 18 months, off and on, with the script writer. I might as well have not spent one second with him." Don Haskins.
Yeah, 38 runs out of 81 plays. Hard to justify that to me, unless it’s a tight game or we’re milking clock. I mean, they did well with that aspect to get 175, but it seems an odd play choice down 32-14 in the third.
Well, you know that won’t happen. Next best choice, in your mind? I used to think Briles, but I’ve flipped on him. Holgorson sounds solid.
Who needs defense when you can hang 70 on them?

Once upon a time in Lubbock, Texas....
There was a college team, that played exciting football. Football worth cheering for. It not only was exciting to watch and talk about, but was uplifting to the long struggling alumni and students. That time is gone. We are left with the remnants of a hopeful team. God bless the players for their struggle. It is not their fault. The fault is with the staff, its that simple.
It just makes me sick
to know that we are the only team since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996 to boast a winning record every year. Tubby is going to set a new tradition. I really did not see this coming.
"I spent 18 months, off and on, with the script writer. I might as well have not spent one second with him." Don Haskins.
Here’s where I think many of us see this thing heading…Tuberville continues to struggle with the idea of a spread and likely continues to muffle Brown. I do think he’s guiding Brown in a lot of instances. He may let Brown pick the specific play, but I have no doubt he’s saying, “Run” or “Pass” to him.
We get really solid recruiting classes, but underperform for the next two to three years. Tuberville does the right thing and walks away. Then, we’ll probably hire a good young guy who gets things headed back in the right direction, only to see him get snatched up by a bigger better program inside of five years. We go back to being a stepping stone job…I mean, truly a stepping stone. We basically become Louisville. We’ll have a revolving door of coaches…some decent, some not. And we’ll have a decent team from time to time. But we’ll never be anything more than an ocassional threat to beat a favored team.
Or we can dump Tubs as soon as a new AD is hired in May. And go get Holgorson. As much as anyone, I hate admitting when I’m wrong. I was wrong about Tuberville. I really did think he’d be just what the doctor ordered.
You know Tech 92 you are onto something;
To add to what you are saying, Tubby could have been aTm new coach. For some reason those Aggies keep hiring all of these CEOcoaches and they are getting no where. They have top recruiting classes year after year, yet they cannot turn the corner because they keep hiring CEO coaches. Our adminstration wants to be like Texas and aTm. I think we give Tubby his second year, which I think next year will be no different, and then DH will be looking to move up. I am campaigning for DH in 2012. Go Red Raiders.

I thought so too...I really did.
I don’t know, I just don’t know. I’m so mixed up that I’m repeating myself. For some reason I really want to see how the rest of the season turns out. I’m still just holding onto hope of a winning season. If that happens, maybe, maybe we have a stepping stone for next year. But who can say?
"They challenged us. They said, 'Here, try to run past us, try to run inside us.' And they were better at preventing that than we were throwing and catching it." --Mike Leach
I’m not giving up on the team. I think guys like Batch and Duncan have too much pride to just fold up the tent. But the way the games have been called have been baffling to me. It just makes NO sense how they have managed the offense. You’re right…we just don’t know what the second half holds. It’s not unheard of for a struggling team to right the ship and go on a tear. But…
Umm...
We have 3 losses. One of which is to Iowa St, another was Ok st at home. I will not have any hope for a Tuberville coached team ever. Even a Weber St. win will be a very good surprise for me.
I don’t have as much heartburn over losing to OSU at home. It was bound to happen at some point. But to go down without a fight? Yeah, that bugs me.
First time in 66 years, with our best class in a decade on the field
I have heartburn for the first time in my life. But I’m patting myself on the back for not going to jail. Had a state trooper stand to either side of me, and had to watch in silence as a fat woman wearing ok st stuff slapped a tech student across the rail.
Did you have anything to do with that dude being pulled out of the stands with his t-shirt in his mouth?
It was at the end of the game on the northwest side. Like 5 cops dragged the guy down in cuffs. My wife and I and my folks were walking out right as it happend.

I almost hate to say it...
But Ok St. brought some lookers today. I was impressed. But Tech ladies still win every time because that actually have brains as well.
It would be cool for someone to pull up the history, I only go back to 1976.
We had a really good team back then, and we have had some lean years here and there, but I always had hope and felt good about the future. For the first time in 34 years, I just do not feel good about this team and the direction Tubby is taking us. We have won Border Conference Championships, we had some great years in the SWC, and we have been more than competitive in the Big 12. If we can turn it around, maybe I will feel better, but we have not put four quarters togehter yet, and I just don’t see it happening with this staff. Somone tell me I am off base.
"I spent 18 months, off and on, with the script writer. I might as well have not spent one second with him." Don Haskins.
I despise the good loser crap.
After an ass beating he is out on the field shaking hands and smiling. Bullshit. We do not need the Southern Gentlemen crap. We are Tech .That is not our culture. I am still so fucking mad Im more incoherent than I usually am and thats bad. From the high dusty of Amarillo I once again raise the parting glass. I’ll regroup and hopefully come up with some good shit later. Goodnight.
I hear you. I want a coach that is freaking pissed off after a game like that.
I want to hear fire and brimstone and maybe a few bleeps. I don’t want to hear innaccurate generalizations and platitudes. Makes me feel like I’m watching a Tony Romo presser after a loss.

Trojan should host a bowl just one time, and invite the cocks and beavers. Then we would finally know who is better.

There's this one song in my head... called TYA
Tuberville and his fake ass sunshine can go on and take his ass. Oh, and as for our “Jeep”, there’s a reason he was only alabama’s linebacker coach. More of an effing Kia Sportage if you ask me. Coaching sucked today. Pink shirts sucked today. Potts sucked AGAIN today. Bront Bird sucked AGAIN today. Ok St fans can kiss my ass. There’s my post game thoughts.
But pat was good last night?

Here is some good news
I am watching the news here in San Antonio and our top Tight End Jace Amaro caught a really nice pass for a TD and helped MacArhur beat Reagan. He has really strong hands and looks good.

Go to work late at night after a crappy football game with the intention of getting caught up and instead spend all night typing off-color comments on DTN.

Everyone complains that Tubs wants to play SEC football. Well, crap. Look at the scores of some of those SEC games this year. Yeah, a few 10-7 stinkers. But much more games where teams light it up. I only wish we had Auburn’s offense…and QB…

The staff does know that we are in conference play right?
If I’m the coach I’m pulling out all stops next week to make sure I have a job next year. I start sticks, I shuffle the o line, I shuffle the d line, I’m finding some guys who want to get out there and play. I pick out about ten plays that work, and run em. I agree….its time to stop being prideful and do something different because the recipe ain’t working….

We missed 3 red zone opportunities in the second half
First time we kicked a field goal and the other two, we went for it on the fourth down and came up with zilch. I lay it on the OC and the QB for not being able to complete drives, but then that’s nothing new for Potts and I have come to realize that Brown is no Lincoln Riley.
No chance at Holgorsen
Dana will not come back to Lubbock, but he will be a head coach soon, especially if OSU wins the conference. And I agree, Brown is out of touch with the spread offense and his players. OSU was 118th in the nation in pass defense and we run it for almost half of the game? That’s not playing to your strengths. Way too conservative. Blame it on the wind all you want, tubbs, I ain’t buyin’ it. It’s because Potty was hurt and he’s too damn proud to admit that Sticks should have taken over. Stubborn old coot.
Question
I could go read every game day thread and find out, but I don’t feel like it.
Was it smarter to kick on 4th with 2 to go? My dad and brothers think it was.
I disagree, but then again- my strategy is pretty basic.
Some nerd actually did some research and answered that question last year.
