I really like the kid but, wow, this reads worse every minute he sits on the bench.

"When I saw his hires, I just went, ‘Wow!''' he said. "These guys know what they are doing.''

Too bad what they were doing was running the program into the ground.

Be a team. Be the most excited to play. Be the best at doing your @#&$ing job.

Haters Gunna Hate

But the truth is that Sticks sees the big picture here as far as the coaching staff goes… you can’t deny the things he was saying, he is a player… you guys aren’t. These comments about running the program into the ground are just tired, 2-4 ya thats pretty bad 1-5 gettin closer to running it into the ground 0-6 most def running it into the ground…3-3 hardly. Leach lost 6 games his first year, changing out offenses and defenses isn’t an overnight thing… get over it, times they are a-changin and once things are in place and the ball is rolling all of you will be in line cheering with everyone else. Lets try not to look so fair weather all the time eh? Cause we all know if we were 6-0 praise would be unmeasurable and everyone would be praising the staff.

Problem is

we should be 6-0 right now.

While I would have loved to see that..

It just isn’t realistic to have that expectation on the first year of a coaches start with the team. Literally all new coaches means we start over and trust that what they have laid out will take shape within 3 years… That’s pretty much the standard

by Vassago77379 on Oct 19, 2010 9:18 AM CDT up reply actions

The expectation of being 6-0

was realistic on December 15, 2009 for the 2010 team.
So either the coaches have done the wrong things or the players aren’t doing their part, which is it?

Any Coaching change...

I don’t care who it is is going to struggle a little bit in it’s first year… and where are you getting this 12-0 expectation from 2009 from? we lost 4 freakin games! The expectations from 08-09 I could see expectations being that high since we only last 2 the year before, but come on man 2 losses was the best year Leach ever had… Holding a different coaching staff all together to a standard not even set forth by the previous staff is just unreasonable.

by Vassago77379 on Oct 19, 2010 9:32 AM CDT up reply actions

12-0 where did that come from?

Lets see if an analogy will help.
Pretend there is a highly succesful donut shop in my neighborhood and I buy it. I don’t really like donuts and decide to sell pretzels instead, now I know people will come there looking for donuts because it is a donut shop so I keep some powdered donuts from the grocery store on hand just in case. My employees love me because they don’t have to get up at 4:30 in morning to make donuts and moral is high. The pretzels are not very good because my people really don’t know how to make pretzels and not many people want pretzels in the neighborhood. I blame the employees for my failed business and soon look to sell the shop to someone else.

by FriscoRaider on Oct 19, 2010 9:45 AM CDT up reply actions

Not really applicable...

See we didn’t seek out this change it was forced and we all did the best with what we could. Tubs IMO is still the best option we could have gotten in the circumstances… No matter who we got (outside of house) there would be a change in what we did.

What I see in allot of people is still the anger and frustration that still stems from losing Leach. By hating the decision the administration made with Leach, there are many of us who have shifted that blame towards the current coaching staff (unconsciously for most). So what we have is a fan base who wants exactly what Leach provided with the same results or better and no compromise…. Well that’s just not in the cards… at least not immediately.

Doesn't really matter

how I acquired the business if I acquire it and then procede to destroy it. Your are making an assumption that eventually the pretzels will be good and that people should be willing to buy pretzels they don’t want and that frankly just aren’t very good. And then to top it off you think they should be grateful for the pretzels.

But say that.

when you hired your chef from another donut shop. He was sucessful there, but that shop was smaller and didn’t have the notoriaty as yours. Your chef was known there for making the best Pigs in a Blanket and that’s why you like him. Your manager desides to bring him in because of what he has done at the last shop, and becuase he wants the same thing. Your manager even though he was let go at his last place of work, is known for being a sucessful businessman.

However, your manager seems to want to run this donut shop differently than it has been run, differently than the neighborhood is used to. That’s not too bad. The neighborhood looks forward to this new style of chef and what he can bring to the table. He doesnt make the exact same food as the last chef, but he makes a similar product. You already have basically what you need to make the PIAB, so there doesn’t seem to be a big outcry from the neighborhood.

After a few weeks it seems as if the manager may have been lieing about what he was really going to deliver, and how he was going to deliver it. He doesn’t really make the donuts very well anymore, and the quality PIAB that he promised to bring over from the other shop only show up about once or twice a week. Now he’s blaming his employees, who, even though they may not be performing as well under their new management, are the best employees that this resturamt has ever had. If managed correctly, they can make the best donuts and PIAB in the country. Just dont ask them to make pretzels when the resturant is designed to make donuts.

And don’t even get me started on the asstant manager who is in charge of making sure that your donuts are better than the other donuts in town.

I mean Texas would have been a stretch to automatically see as a win… even in a down year 5-1 would have been my prediction realistically… unrealistically I would always say we should be undefeated, but life just don’t work out that way

even in a down year. 5-1 would

/sarc/ Solid points

“you can’t deny the things he was saying, he is a player… you guys aren’t.”

Activate shield of “how would you know”! I’m not sure what your point is with the second half of the statement. And, it is true, I cannot deny the things he was saying. He said them. Hard to deny that.
I guess the better point I should’ve made was that he could’ve easily complimented the new staff without throwing the old staff under the bus, hitting the gas, throwing the shifter in R and doing it all over again. It is hard to expect a kid to temper his enthusiasm but he should also realize that a coaching change will not get him any closer to playing in the NFL than the old staff would have.

“Cause we all know if we were 6-0 praise would be unmeasurable and everyone would be praising the staff.”

Hypotheticals make great foundations for debate.
I won’t get over the fact that there are tons of seniors on the squad that, coming into the year, had no reason to expect fewer wins than last year. Now I’d like you to go tell them (as Tuberville should be doing, if he’s honest) that, sorry, losing is okay because it’s part of the change..get over it.

The most frustrating thing for fans is that we are faced with a situation that is unprecedented in the history of college football. A successful football program just fired the coach with the most wins in the school history and the most sustained success under possibly dubious circumstances. This isn’t Florida State, where Bobby Bowden was clearly on the downswing. Find another school that replaced a coach that was in the middle of the most successful run in the program. Find another school that struggled in the shadows for so long, suddenly became an item of national interest with traditions that the students reveled in, began to sustain that success and then yank the rug out from under all of it.
Is Tuberville proven? It’s a loaded question. A few years back, yeah, but people fail to realize that he wasn’t successful by himself. There was a staff surrounding him that contributed to that. By his own admission, he is a CEO coach. It would be safe to assume that his coordinators were responsible for a huge chunk of the success, as he just managed. Problem is, that staff isn’t here. So to say Tuberville is proven is a little misleading. Tuberville AND his staff were proven.

true points

I mean I am not of the belief that a head coach ‘forgets’ how to be good or win games… His asst coaches still have to prove themselves though.

I'm sure

Sticks has changed his perspective since August 1. Just don’t expect to hear anything from him unitl after the season.

Well

I have enjoyed the occasions last year when Sheffield shone and got to play some under Leach. Not really concerned if he liked Leach or not, Sheffield football playing days appear that they will end with him on the bench rooting for Tuberville and watching the first Tech losing season in a very long time.

Other than that, I am not so impressed with Sheffield. Like Tuberville, the proof is in the pudding, let’s see what you two can do on the field.

P.S. The defense was Ruffin’s job like the miserable special teams unit has been Tuberville’s. How about another on-side kick this weekend, Tommy?
