Post Game Thoughts | Texas Tech Red Raiders 27, Texas A&M Aggies 45
Box Score | Post Game Quotes | Post Game Press Conference
THE RESULT | SOMEWHAT EXPECTED . . . BUT YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE | I'm not going to work anyone up into a frenzy about the fact that Steven Sheffield saw any meaningful playing time. I think I've come to the realization that this staff will most likely come to the same conclusion that they've come to over the past 8 games. But I don't know that I'd be able to go a whole week without some glimmer of hope, and right now, Sheffield is that glimmer. I mentioned this before the game, which was that the pass defense was 119th out of 120 universities playing college football. There was no way that Fuller and Tannehill wasn't going to carve up the Texas Tech defense. There's plenty to complain about, and I hope that no one misconstrues my explanations as excuses. To avoid that, I'll say it now, which is that this team just isn't very good right now. Whether it be players or coaches or a combination of the both. There's obviously issues.

THE STORYLINES
WHICH QUARTERBACK? | QB Taylor Potts led the offense to two scoring drives on the first 11 drives (there were actually 12, but the last in the first half was 0:09 seconds). RB Eric Stephens fumbled in the endzone and WR Detron Lewis also fumbled into the endzone. Notwithstanding those missed opportunities, which don't count because they didn't count, this offense absolutely struggled to do much of anything. You can read the post game non-transcript below, but Tuberville said that the offense was too lateral and that's true, when Potts is leading this team. Potts completed 62% of his passes, which is absolutely standard for Potts and averaged 6.1 yards per attempt. And had Lewis not broken a few tackles and scampered off for 54 yards, that yards per attempt would most likely have been worst. That is unacceptable. You can also read my notes below for all of the instances during the radio broadcast where the announcers said that Potts overthrew a receiver or a defender batted down a pass. They were more than I want to count.
I'm sure there are those people that want to defend Potts and claim that TAMU wasn't giving it their all in the 4th quarter when Sheffield finally got a chance, but Potts has proven what he is, which is a quarterback that completes a shade over 60% of his passes and somewhere about 6 to 7 yards per attempt, which is a lateral offense. At some point, it's not about what some hope that Sheffield is, but what we know what Potts is.
Sheffield finished the day with 9.2 yards per attempt and 78% of his passes. Again, I get that the Texas A&M defense may have been playing off quite a bit, but this is about what we know what Potts is because he's had 8 games to prove it out this year. I like Potts as a human being and although you may not like the way the played the game, please don't take out your personal frustrations out on Potts as a human being. Just as if you were to screw up at work, no one should attack you personally, Potts doesn't deserve that. Critique his play on the field, but leave him alone off the field.
ABOUT THAT DEFENSE | This is a bad defense and it's playing true freshmen in spots that true freshmen shouldn't be playing. As a redshirt last year, I think that CB Jarvis Phillips was converted to a cornerback position after he played quarterback in high school. This is Phillips first year in live game experience at the position and it's showing. I typed Phillips' name way too often yesterday and it was because Phillips was covering Jeff Fuller. Also mentioned during the game was that CB LaRon Moore was in the lockerroom for some time with stomach virus issues, which means that your cornerbacks was a former quarterback, Phillips, and Eugene Neboh, a former walk-on. The only constants are S Cody Davis and S Franklin Mitchem, although Mitchem missed a bunch of time over the past few weeks. Just a ton of young players with little to no experience.
The only silver lining is that with so many young players getting time is that they're also paying their dues and getting invaluable experience. From listening to the broadcast, Phillips was there on a bunch of those passes to Fuller, but just didn't turn around. And despite being a walk-on, Neboh finished the day with 9 tackles and 1.0 TFL, which was 2nd on the team.
And I've been incredibly worried about replacing Colby Whitlock next year. There may not be a more unsung and more productive defensive tackle in the Big 12 than Whitlock. Yesterday alone, he finished with 7 tackles and 1.5 TFL. Enter stage left, Pearlie Graves, who also finished with 7 tackles and 1.5 TFL. Graves may take some time, obviously, to be on the same level with Whitlock, but Graves' first two games are impressive and gives me hope. And he's only a redshirt freshman.
REPLACING TUBERVILLE, BROWN AND WILLIS | I get that the general reaction is to fire everyone after a loss. Those comments aren't anything new. I've been saying that I think that no matter what happens, Tuberville is going to get at least 3 years. That's just a guess, it could be more or it could be less. But there's no guarantee with OC Brown or DC Willis. Despite everyone's misgivings about these two, I still think you give them a chance. With OC Brown, the same offense that Potts is running is the same offense that Sheffield is running. The offense can be explosive. It doesn't have to be horizontal. It can average over 7 yards per attempt. And just to remind everyone, if you don't think that Brown is a good offensive coordinator, then consider the next type of offensive coordinator that Tuberville might want to hire. If you're upset that you think the Air-Raid has disappeared . . . just wait. I don't think that OC Brown is coaching Potts to overthrow all of those receivers.
And I think that this is something that Ryan Hyatt wrote after one of the games this year (this is me being too lazy to figure out where) that when Texas Tech matched up against Michigan St., that was Leach's game plan, which was that he wanted to start Potts, but Sheffield saved the day. I wish I could explain it, and I keep thinking that at some point, perhaps the problem is that Sheffield isn't a good practice quarterback. Leach came to that conclusion to start the year and so did OC Brown. It honestly befuddles me, and I don't have any sort of answer that makes any sense. So it doesn't bother me too much to know that OC Brown and Leach came to similar conclusions. But back to the idea of firing OC Brown, be careful what you wish for. If you think that Tuberville would hire a more explosive and creative offensive mind, then think again. If Tuberville lets Brown go after the year, expect the offense to be even more conservative.
And although DC Willis isn't making any excuses, there's only so much that you can cover up with a young secondary and cornerbacks that haven't played much at the position. It's going to stink, and most likely it's going to stink for the rest of the year. The one thing that I can appreciate with DC Willis is that he doesn't deviate from how he wants to play defense, no matter the consequences, and perhaps when a coach is trying to implement a system, the results may not be pretty, but he's sticking to the plan. DC's Willis' insistence on running a certain style may be his failing, but at the very least, he's doing it his way.
POST GAME PRESS CONFERENCE NON TRANSCRIPT |
TOMMY TUBERVILLE | Shot ourselves in the foot. Wasn't good enough to stop that offense or keep up with them offensively. Rushed for 200 yards in the 2nd half. Knew we were going to have to outscore some teams. Had some good performances, played pretty good and caused some turnovers too. They had a good football team and tried to take the game away from Tannehill, but Fuller out-jumped Texas Tech defenders. Can't have that inconsistency on offense. Same offense with Tannehill as with Johnson. Four personal foul penalties is too much. Didn't protect the passer very well, put Sheffield in because needed a change of pace, it wasn't anything that Taylor did or didn't do, but it was time to get someone in there. Too much of a lateral team. Gave effort just made too many mistakes to give much of a chance. Have to be more consistent on 3rd downs. The deep ball hurt Texas Tech the most. Must have some help from the offense to keep the defense off the field. D.J. Johnson tweaked his hamstring, probably out for a couple of weeks. The offense didn't play with a lot of emotion and should have scored more points. Need to find the right combination.WR LYLE LEONG | Started off fast and then slowed down. Continue to get better. Always expect to win, not going to give up and get better each week. We win as a team and lose as a team. We expect to score every time. Any loss is difficult, but believe that Texas Tech will come out and fight. Everyone on this offense knows what they need to do. Both quarterbacks are capable, whoever takes the reins will do a good job, not leaning towards anyone.
OFFENSIVE MVP | QB Steven Sheffield | This could have gone to Detron Lewis (8 catches for 111 yards), but he had the fumble and it also could have gone to Lyle Leong (5 catches for 67 yards and 3 TD's), but this is me just hoping for a change.
DEFENSIVE MVP | DT Colby Whitlock and DT Pearlie Graves | The two of them combined for 14 tackles and 3.0 TFL. S Cody Davis was also in on a ton of plays, 11 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recover and 1.0 sacks. Maybe they should switch Davis to linebacker rather than Dewhurst, but then I have no idea who plays in the secondary.
SPECIAL TEAMS MVP | KR Eric Stephens | Really at a loss to figure out who else deserves it. Stephens averaged 31 yards a return, including a 48 yard return.

#14
TTU: Sheffield attempted to Stephens for screen, but not open. Batch rushes for 14 yards. Sheffield to Lewis for 17 yards. Announcers said great pass. Offsides by TAMU. Sheffield to Lewis for a touchdown and calling offensive pass interference. Another bad call? Lewis just batted the defender's hand away. Sheffield with a quarterback draw. 4th/8 from the 22 and is sacked.
TAMU: Very conservative playcalling, but still gaining huge chunks of yards on the defense. The defense is gassed.
#15
TTU: Sheffield to Torres for 17. Crawford rushes for 25 yards. Too little too late. Sheffield to Leong for a touchdown for 35 yards. This is how it's supposed to be.
TAMU: I've completely lost interest at this point, there was actually one more drive (#16) that I completely ignored. It's been a long day.

Great Write Up
I was at this game yesterday and you are absolutely right, the coaches didn’t overthrow the passes, nor did they fumble the ball into the end zone twice. This game was allot closer than the scoreboard shows, that first fumble doesn’t happen and you are looking at the door flying open for Tech. Everyone in that stadium was ready to toss in the towel and give the win over when they thought we were going in for the score… Then we gave them life, the drive out from the second half was the same story, creating a rally then doubling back momentum the other way with a fumble.
If there is one good thing from this … Maybe Sticks will finally get his shot.
Disagree it was closer than the scoreboard showed.
We can play that game again – say Wednesday -and there is still no guarantee. Your odds are the same no matter how many times you flip the coin. You can’t win games with a few brief moments of good football no matter how you shuffle them around the hour.
Sticks might have silenced a stadium full of aggies, but it’s half a season or so here and there’s more noise about him not playing, than ever. Too little, too late, and we all know its not going to happen.
(I want to tell everyone that something creative needs to happen, but the time for that has been and gone. Sticks, glow-in-the-dark-cheerleaders, trick plays, wacky drills in practice, something, anything… Well, even if any of it worked it wont get very far with only a few games left.)
Wow, I just invented glow in the dark cheerleaders. I hope that’s a good thing…
Thanks for the great write up
It’s getting harder and harder to know what to say.
I don’t dare to hope that Sheffield starts against Missouri or gets significant playing time.
Could it be that no matter how good of coach you are that SEC coaching experience just doesn’t translate to the Big 12? I don’t know, I’m really asking the question.
That is countrier than a biscuit. - Garth Brooks
Yes, these are getting shorter and shorter as the year progresses. It’s not easy writing the same thing every week, but right now, things aren’t getting much better.

Sherman Did
Sherman replaced the pre-season Big XII player of the year with Tannehill. Does this mean Sherman is a better coach than Tubbs? God help us!!
rebuilding Year
I dont know about yall, but ive written this season off. Sadly, next year will truly be an offensive rebuilding year. After our last few games though, I think a freshman QB could do betther than Potts.
yeah I agree let dogde or karam give it a go… it cant get worse

Agree - I wonder what Scotty Young's and the other qbs are thinking
OCB is the real problem and HCTT is not motivating the players. As you know and opponents know, the problem with Potts is that he’s good when defense is not pressuring him and falls apart under pressure. Sheffield should be brought in well before the 4th to change the pace. better yet Its time to give future qb’s the game.
"Appreciate the target you put on my back...We just have a lot of work to do" Tubberville
My guess is that
Scotty Young is seeing the potential for a pro football going down in flames with Tuberville & Associates in command at TT versus the guy he signed up for and that he is discussing transferring elsewhere privately with family and friends. (and I know it might be difficult, but many others have done it and Young can too.)
Baseball is his best option
He could get drafted in the minors as I understand he is a pretty good pitching prospect. Take the money and run !! Tech is going to need a mobile QB to run this offense.

confusion!
I was really hoping he would blast the refs as the previous coaching staff would have. The run to set up the 2-3 yard pass drives me crazy I cant stand it. This nascar offence looks like it needs to go to the shop for a total overhaul!
Really bad football
Plain and simple it’s lack of execution. I knew our chances of coming away with a win against A&M was very slim but I held out for hope just like everybody else. Potts starting in anymore games would be unfair to fans and this team. I suspect the last thing this coaching staff wants to do is start Sheffield since the vast majority of fans wanted this from the beginning. It’s pretty hard to admit when you were wrong especially when your playing this bad. I still say they don’t start Sheffield to save face and place blame elsewhere. Potts is a great kid but just not a great college football player. In fact I would say we have loads of problems all over this football team. The wheels have come off this season and it’s going to be 6-6 at best. It’s a painful to watch after such success. For me I just have to accept what I wasn’t willing to accept earlier and that is that we are not the same team as we were under our former coaches watch despite having some of the players he had to work with.

I guess those ties and extra film session really make a diffference
Nothing more gets me more pissed off than the comments made by both the coaching staff and the players how Leach did not have them ready to play. Remember all those comments about how Tuby pays attention to detail, something they never did under Leach.
My summation is cleary this, Tuby might spend more time in the film room, he might spend more attnetion to footwork, but all Leach did was put W’s on the board. I am so sick and tired of Tuby and his goody two shoes approach and what he has single handidly done to our football program.
I don’t even think 6-6 is a possibility. Houston could easily beat this football team. Tuby has lost this team, and he is never going to get them back.
The administration has set up back 10 years.
Good for Balor.

I agree
I think these players lack the motivation coming out of the locker room. Very soft to say the least. Personally I would rather these players not like the head coach if the result is winning. Everybody loves each other now and passes out praise and what do we have to show for it….a losing season.

The proof
is in the pudding, and Tubervllle’s pudding is worse than middling. Yeah, I caught Tommy’s “Mike won some games here…” and it appears that Tubby is successfully losing games here.
The announcers were surprised at the lack of challenge by Tech on a penalty or two yesterday. Combine that with his pathetic coaching of the special teams and I am hyper unimpressed with Tuberville. The good news is that if he is unsuccessful here at Tech, he is finished in the coaching biz.
I think about the only drawback to keen attention to detail is that you start to think instead of just play. It would not surprise me at all if that’s the problem with some of our guys. When you overload with details, sometimes the broader picture gets muddy. Football isn’t that complicated at its essence. Put the kids in the right position, but then let them figure it out from there…let them read, react and attack.
I agree
I will be shocked if they start Sheffield. They were the coaches, they knew all along which QB would do better and yet chose to start with Potts and deliberately did not give Sheffield many opportunities. There must be many good reasons for this but none of these have to do with winning football games or giving the best QB in the team a chance.
What is worse?
Being 4-4 with an entirely new coaching staff or being 4-4 after playing for the national championship last year !! Must suck waking up in Austin this morning.

Not good enough for me to be very happy about any of this...
Someone else’s misery doesn’t make me feel any better about our current situation…
And Texas is still Texas… they’ll eventually buy themselves out of whatever problems they encounter… all the resources and political support will continue to flow their way… any problems will just be temporary for them…
We have to do more with less… something we used to do a pretty good job at… but there are guarantees of success in our future…

Its a Wash
At thispoint, I would rather Tuby start Sticks and play him about three quarters, and I would like to see the QB that NB thinks has the edge next year play a little. Maybe even both.
We will not win another Big 12 game this year, and I don’t think we will more than 2 games in the Big 12 next year. Tuby is the least motivated coach I have ever seen at this level. He does not inspire these kids, nor get them ready to play.
I agree, he did not fumble at the one, he did not make the 2 over throws that should have been TD’s, but his clock management, specail team blunders, and the overall makeup of his charactere, show though this team. It have been rehased over and over again, we do more with less. Tuby does more with more.
We better hope he can recurit, because he sure as the hell can’t coach em up.

Re: OC Brown not coaching interceptions.
I hear you on this point, Seth, and it’s well taken – especially in light of Sheff’s 4th qtr performance this week.
On the other hand, we do have to acknowledge that Potts has regressed under the current coaching regime, don’t we? I mean… he was bad last year, but he’s really bad this year. Can’t we hang at least part of that on OCB and HCTT?
Potts and Tubby don't bring leadership to the huddle or the team respectively

Not sure if he has regressed
He was bad last year and he is bad this year. Both years he was terrible, I just don’t think that he has progressed this year and I don’t think that he ever will. The kid is giving it his best shot but unfortunately his best is not good enough at the highest level of college football and that’s a fact.
He also threw for 462 yards on the road against a baylor team ranked 22nd. What's your point?
The bottom line is we did not win the UT game, we did not win the Houston game, we did not win the Ok-State game and we would have lost the Michigan State game had Sheffield not been brought in. We are again stinking this year, but Sheffield just proved that how much better the offense can be (even the Neal Brown version) when we have a better QB leading the offense.
Unreal...
3 times last year he was bailed out…

Yeah, and Tannenhill
just set a school record passing against a team that its fans thought would win a ’ship this year.
He executed at the top of his game last year vs ut. Rarely has since sadly.
Still trying to keep up hope for this year...
Listening to the game on the radio, when Sheffield entered the game the announcers, the fans, and the players seemed to get a little more excited. Then he led the team down the field, going something like 6 for 6 and a TD. I was like ‘where has this been all year?’ It was like the Tech of old that we all know and love. So I think if Sheffield just plays the whole game, the offense might be able to find more of its rhythm than having drive killing overthrown or underthrown passes as often as we do now. I honestly think we can beat Mizzou or Oklahoma… our team has shown the ability to beat better teams with what players we have, and I don’t think that has completely gone away yet. Call me crazy, I just have a feeling that we can pull off the seemingly impossible. It is college football, any team can win on any given day.
Also, I was watching the Oregon-USC game last night and I was incredibly impressed with Oregon’s spread offense. Their running game is immaculate, and passing not too shabby either. If Tuberville wants to incorporate more running while keeping the Air Raid style of play, this is the team he should be looking to model after. Not copy, but at least look to as an example of success, blending his SEC-style with the Big 12 pass offense. Granted their QB is much more athletic, and they probably recruit more quality players, but it’s something to try to shoot for. And you want to talk about NASCAR? Oregon leads the nation in scoring drive time, averaging something like 1:40 per possession on the year. That’s insane! And it doesn’t seem like half of their drives petered off because of overthrown, underthrown, or otherwise terrible passes.
Anyways, just my thoughts. I’m no expert, but I love Tech and I love football, and right now honestly Tech needs to do just about anything different in the hopes of playing better overall.
Tech won't beat MO and OU
with the 119th defense no matter how good (unlikely) the offense executes. That is not on the coaches but the talent on the field and available now on defense. UT couldn’t beat Baylor yesterday with the #2 defense despite putting up an extra 100 yards of offense.
Waste of Talent.
This team was filled with recruits to run the Air Raid. We converted to the NASCAR, but that stalled. Now what do we do?
Any recruit that was considering Tech is surely going to change their commitment to another team rather than try to squeeze their round peg talent into a square hole offense.
Tech pulled off a coup by signing one of the nation’s best QB’s in Scotty Young, but if we don’t have a system in place to take advantage of his talents, what good does it do.
Tech has regressed in nearly every offensive and defensive categories, and has added a few more stats that totally defy what this team was formerly about.
My concern is no longer that this was a rebuilding year. I’m now concerned that this was the year Tech was destroyed, and it will take a decade to regain what we had only 2 years ago.
Take the "P" out of "Pirate" and I'm "Irate"!!!
Actually it was just 1 year ago we were winning 9 games & crushing Oklahoma & Nebraska
It’s only been 10 months since Hance & Sowell fired that torpedo at the football program. It just feels longer because the destruction has been so complete.
Roger that 10 - 4
Big 12 coaches are breathihng a big sigh of relief that Tech is finally a win on the schedule
"I spent 18 months, off and on, with the script writer. I might as well have not spent one second with him." Don Haskins.
My prediction at the beginning of the year is still right on.
I believe I said 7 wins if Potts plays (we may not even get there…), and 9 or 10 if Sticks plays. If anyone doesn’t believe that is possible then they are crazy. Sticks is about 1000% better than Potts and its a fact. Tubs won’t play Sticks b/c Potts is a lemming and does what he wants and Sticks tries to run the air raid. Sticks bring energy and a pirate mentality. Tubs hates those things. He wants everything done exactly his way. It is so frustrating to have a control freak as head coach when that coach is not any good. I sure hope Tubs can improve his recruiting b/c our players are going to have to be way better than the other guys to win. Good luck with that…
Overall, the D is really bad and with all the injuries and freshman that is certainly part of it. At the same time, no way with Ruff would we be this bad. The new scheme may work with the right players (what scheme doesn’t) but it doesn’t work with what we have. Which is what Ruffin is saying right now to Willis if they talk, which they don’t I’m sure.
Offense, NASCAR is ineffective, but as Seth said, it’s amazing how well NASCAR does when you get rid of Potts. The cancer to this offense is Taylor and if we don’t get rid of him we may not win 6 games. For that Tubs and Brown should be fired. I don’t care about their system or whatever, what I care about is that they are so stubborn, they will not play the best player. Ego is a terrible thing when it gets in the way of good decision making.
Thanks for making us a joke Tubs. I can’t stand you.
Six wins will be a blessing.
No way this team stops Missouri, and you think we have a chance at Oklahoma. Have you not watched the real NASCAR. And by the time this team comes back from OU, we will be so beat up, our enthusiasm will be shot, and well, that The Rest of The Story.
You see how Tubby got this team fired up for aTm. He must have set his sights on Baylor this year, since that is our Marque win in 2010.
All we can hope is that Tubby puts his tail between his legs and get the hell out of Lubbock before it gets any worse.

our texas tech football deatroyed
Starting with the sleezy administration on down to the tubs and co. they have set us back at least 12 years. I wish we could be more optimistic but lets face the facts.
My opinion
I was at the game. Section 100 with all the players parents so i couldn’t shout out profanity’s at the players for screwing up. ha ha.
What i saw was Potts overthrowing passes. Looks like he wass too worried about getting interceptions. Seems like he is either great or totally off. He had at least two potential td passes that he overthrew. Combine that with the two fumbles detron and stephens had we could have easily been up 4 more touchdowns. But it amazed me how good sheffield’s drives were. There were no three and outs like Potts. He kept the drives alive, if there were no open receivers he ran for a first down. That is what ive been waiting to see all year.
On the defensive side of the ball we had no chance. Fuller was at least two or three steps ahead of his defender at all times and he was at least a 7 inches taller.
forgot to mention the play calling was horrible.
Screens, Screens, Screens, screens. No wonder tubbs said we were to lateral.
A&M saw it coming every time.
Potts doesn't look down field
A&M knew this from studying the films and started capitalizing on it, that was until Sticks was finally brought in and our offense suddenly woke up. QB play is very important in our type of offense, even the Neal Brown version of Air Raid looked devastating in the final minutes of that game, when we had a real QB in there. I wonder why Sticks was not given a chance. I am sure it doesn’t have to do with football and winning but there may have been other behind the scene issues (no-performance or skill related) that resulted in the coaches deliberately benching sticks inspite of knowing how much better we could be with him leading the offense.
Techcuz...About sitting with the parents...
Don’t worry, I spoke with several of them at the CU game for some time. I think they may just agree with you on several items covered in our discussions…
"Shock the Monkey!" - SARR
Listening on the radio the speed at which Sheffield passed the ball was amazing in contrast to Potts
Jenson would say Sheffield in the shotgun gets the snap & throws it complete to….. All in one breath. The snap & the pass in a rhythm like a good rock & roll song. That is what a spread offense is supposed to feel like. Potts has no rhythm.
I noticed this and commented before
part of a QB effectiveness is his ability to anticipate, both receivers and defenders – what will they do when the ball is snapped.
A good qb does not wait for the receiver to be open to throw the ball. If he waits, a good defender will close the gap before the ball gets there. Potts has been able to use is strong arm to offset his inability to anticipate – at least – most likely – in a practice situation. But during games, I think that is why so many of his short passes get “dropped”. They are too hot to handle. and longer passes are not considered, because no one is ever wide open.
Sheffield has the ability to deliver the pass when the receiver “becomes” open. He has the ability to anticipate
What kind of reactions/comments did you hear from the players parents, if any?

Tough day for a post game writeup Seth
I think the realization the makes this Sunday hangover so much worse than any other this year is precisely what you warn against. We have a bad situation with our current coaching staff, but we are stuck with it. And when you point out that any change in OC just means Tubs will surround himself with more SEC play callers, I realize the frustration isn’t just about loosing to ATM. It’s about the prospect of being at the bottom of the Big XII for a long time.
This rebuild will be tough, if it is to happen at all. It will have to start with an AD that is football smarts. It will require a functional administration to support the tough decisions he will have to make. And, it will require a coach that is on the front edge of the curve, that thinks outside the box, can take lesser talent and with scheme and coaching skill will beat more talented teams. Oh, and is committed to excellence in the classroom a well as wins, and is not afraid to piss fans and players off to get the point across.
I don’t want to calculate the odds of all these things happening at Tech.

Seth, the problem we have with rebuild is rebuilt to what
Tubby is not going to get SEC athletes to TECH PERIOD. You have seen his offensive scheme, and you have seen his defensive scheme. You can fill in the blanks, and where are those players coming from. Program is history, no hope for the future, I surely do not see it anywhere is sight. Next year with 9 conference games I predict a four win season, and then Tubby resigns. Then we will start rebuilding

don't know...didn't see the game
but I am sure not going to take the observations of a radio annoucer…geezzz the guys who get the better money—the ones on tv can’t get it right why would a radio guy call it right ?
My comment about Potts was more in the vein that earlier in this season it was about his int’s, his fumbles, well his int’s have gone down, way down, and so too the fumbles….but the other guys’ are doing the to’s but Potts remains the goat.
So now it is ‘near’ int’s based on the comments of a radio guy who is working hard to fill air time with words…any words.
Indeed, there is something about Potts that renders his game/leadership null, but it is other than what is written…we cannot put our finger on it.
so this season sucks !!!

Of course you are not making a snap judgement
Everyone knows that, you have been consistent all season…just as Pott’s has with his game, we all know what it is. At times he has looks brilliant and then we get a lot of weird.
My point continues to be that there is more to a win or loss than a qb…we had two turn overs that killed momentum of what looked like td drives…we lost tempo, the intangible we like to see the offense display…and that the criteria we use to rate qb’s do not apply, they are not sufficient data. Int’s, fumbles, yds per play, etc, because they reflect at large portion of the performance of a receiver. If he is playing good, he will look good in the stats and if he is not playing good he can look good anyway. But guys will use the data as if it is a determinant.
At some point Stephens has got to stop doing that to this team. He fumbles too much….it really hurt the success of this game…in addition to what ever else they we trying to ovecome…Lewis as well.
And the part about the radio guys was not intended to be directed specifically to you…more in response to everything I had read to this point…sorry about that.
Just read this a.m. about Sheffield’s shoulder. Apparently it has been too sore for him to play. So that may be true and it may not be true, it is the reason Brown gives for not playing him. Brown also commented that Shefffield’s int was an error on the qb.
It continues to be that there is more that we do not know than we do know.
as for me and my house, we chose the Lord.
How many receivers did he over throw?
according to da radio broadcast, it was a shit load.

Not trying to pick a fight, but he didn't throw an int.
Sticks did.
I think we need to play the little guy, and use him to force the D to account for him as a running threat. It’s likely to get him hurt, and he’s gonna throw picks, get sacked, just like Potts. Honestly, I don’t even think we’ll win more with him, but maybe just changing the lineup will make something good happen. Sometimes you just go with different and hope. It’s sad but I think it’s where we are.

Does no one ever catch a ball thrown hard by other QBs?
Need charts and graphs on this. Want radar guns and high speed cameras filming the point of impact with receivers hands. Then if there is evidence that a receiver can’t catch a ball from Potts because of it’s velocity, I’ll cut the receives some slack. Otherwise I think I’m pulling their man card. Make the damn catch if it hits your hands.

This comment is delusional...
I’m pretty sure this is the dumbest comment after the A&M game I have seen by far. Potts is terrible. Sticks comes in and throws 3 TD’s (one taken back on a bullshit penalty as noted by the DMN and radio announcers). The interception was a well thrown ball as noted by the radio announcers and Detron ran the wrong damn route. If Sticks has more time to practice that stuff will go away. Sticks with no practice comes in and delivers. Potts had only about 80 more yards and one less TD in 3 and a half quarters. The fact that you think the results would be the same with Sticks is delusional. HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY THINK THAT?!?!?!?!
I really don’t get it. THE FACTS DO NOT BACK THAT UP. Look at the damn stats.
This has to be a freaking joke right?
Nothing in the ACTUAL stats nor “it” or emotion factor backs up what you are saying. Again ACTUAL STATS and whatever other “it” factors. ACTUAL STATS. IT factor. I’m at a loss.

Did you notice today’s comment from Brown that Sheffield has been injured, his shoulder….last year’s stats do not help him get onto the field, it is his performance in practice. He has not been able to throw. At least that makes sense.
Sticks may be the better player, we don’t know.

I realize this will likely stir you back up and extend the "Sticks tizzy fit", but here are the facts you seek.
That INT was on the little guy. Brown called it this way…
"He threw the (interception) there when the ball shouldn’t even have been thrown in that direction late in the game."
And you don’t get to count the TD that was called back. Guess what, “THE FACTS DO NOT BACK THAT UP. Look at the damn stats.”
But the results will be different alright. We’ll see a little guy running around a lot, maybe that excites you, maybe that even excites the team, whatever. Then look for the sack, the INT, the pick 6, and given his injury prone career, look for the little guy to get hurt.

That's what I'm saying
I’ve ran into Sticks several times this semester and he’s gained quite a bit of weight.
So according to Brown,
The ball shouldn’t be thrown down field when you’re behind and late in the game? That’s flat out moronic.
Is that what you think he was trying to communicate ?
Or was it more in the vein of don’t throw it to the other guy…
Maybe I will give a different comment when I see the game later this week….
as for me and my house, we chose the Lord.
Well I just watched that play...
Detron just never looked. The pass was perfectly on target. 12-15 yard post route, ball came a step or two into his cut. Brown just didn’t want it thrown deep is my guess. Threw in the towel.
I will look at it when I get my video, thank you for saying what you are seeing.
as for me and my house, we chose the Lord.
Even when we win, I still don’t want Potts. I didn’t want him this week, last week, or two weeks ago. It’s not anything personal, I know he works hard and he’s a nice guy and everything. I just don’t think he’s consistent enough. There are flashes of brilliance, but the rest of the time I don’t know what he’s doing. He’s off his game. He’s got all the tools, but he’s not using them consistently.
Anyone, ANYONE would be better at this point. Sticks to try and win a few games this year. One of the younger guys to get them a head start on next year – my preference, really. Anyone. We know what Potts can do and it’s just not enough with this offense.
Be a team. Be the most excited to play. Be the best at doing your @#&$ing job.
There has never been a flash of brilliance. Potts gets lucky sometimes. Never does he take over a game. It’s college. Brilliant players can totally take over games at this level. Potts cannot and will never be able to do that.
Your just wrong that Potts has never been good.
You can make a case for Sticks, I really don’t care who plays at this point. Just don’t get the the total denial that there have been streaks where he was able to tear up a D.

Potts has never been good.
I’ll say it again. What streaks?! Point it out? Lets do play by play of when he ran off the offense and just tore someone up? I think what you will find is that when the TEAM was on, Potts bad throws were covered up by great catches, breaking tackles, and running well.
Oh wait, maybe he was good in practice some time that we don’t know about.
He was fine against Baylor.
42 / 59 (71%) 462 yards 7.8 avg 4 TD 1 INT
You can’t blame him when the offense sucks and then discount him when the offense is working. If you COULD do that, then it wouldn’t matter who played QB — we should just be pissed at the entire rest of the team for not being “on” all the time, breaking tackles, making catches, and all that. When we have a QB who is playing well it’s a lot easier on everybody.
Potts is not bad, he’s inconsistent. If he was bad he wouldn’t have started the last two years. Being inconsistent with so much potential is worse because he keeps giving everybody hope that something “clicked” and he turned the corner. He’s not going to turn the corner. He is who he is in this scheme at this point. That’s anywhere from awful to okay depending on what week it is.
Be a team. Be the most excited to play. Be the best at doing your @#&$ing job.
1 game out of a season doesn't cut it
its a waste of a season, and the qb position probably swung 2-3 games thus far. These players can win high scoring games…

by oldschoolraider on Oct 31, 2010 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions
Its a lot more than that
Its the yards after catch, anticipating the receivers, completing throws, efficiency, completing drives that culminate in touch downs, making quicker decisions, anticipating a blitz and making adjustments, leading the offense, getting the offense energized, utilizing the personnel on the offense instead of throwing to the same set of receivers again and again and again, disguising handoffs to make the running game more productive, etc ., etc., etc. all of which are either absent or very rare when Potts is leading the offense.
I do think that had Stephens and Lewis gone in instead of scoring, the tenor of our comments may be a bit different. Granted, even with those two TDs we still get beat pretty handily since our defense is just too young to stop anyone.
For some reason that I can’t explain, I’m not mad at the defense. We as a fan base have to realize who we have out there…a bunch of guys who were playing in other positions in high school and guys who just haven’t had the time to mature into competent college football defenders. It’s really hard to get pissed at a bunch of 19-year-old freshmen and soph’s…as frustrated as we all are.
Like the rest of you, my ire is directed at the decision making ability and in-game adjustments (actually, the lack of). There HAS to be something about Sheffield we don’t know about that is keeping him off the field until now. I mean, his passes are at least on target much more often. I don’t expect perfection from my QB. In fact, I’m totally fine with a failure rate of around 30%. But put the WRs in a position to make a play, i.e. hit them in stride more often, which Sticks does. Potts just isn’t accurate enough to run a passing offense. And we are still a passing offense.
Which brings me to this…Neal Brown is over his head. If he is only calling swings, screens and 4 yd outs, does that indicate that he doesn’t trust Potts to stretch the field even a little? But if that’s the case, why not put someone in who can stretch the field? Maybe he’s a poor evaluator of his players, on top of calling only the first 14 plays on the play sheet. I know I’ve scratched my head a few times wondering why, when Aaron Crawford seems to have the hot hand, he only gets three or four touches. Batch, as much as I like his fire, is off this year. He’s not hitting what few holes are there and isn’t breaking tackles like years past.
The whole thing sucks…bad…
The stuff about the d is an indication to me
that, either the staff has simply written off this season in order to get their stuff in with young guys or
Mike Leach’s comments about the quality of this team are bs or
the defense is really suffering from injuries mixed with the new scheme learning curve.
I don’t know about the offense because I cannot put it all on the qb…the recievers are supposed to catch some of those footballs…we have seen recievers catch footballs at ground level…we have seen qb’s make bad passes…and still had a successful Air Raid. It is not the qb (s) as much as it is the others…when Torres came in as a first year player and passed everyone on the roster to start, yet he is not really all world, then we have an indictment of our receiver corps.
Brown showed much more in games that we have seen video clips from, his team did well…at little ole bitty Troy…it is not him either…
I can agree…the whole thing sucks right now…surely it can get better.
Yes, regarding the last game, the fumbles are killers…we needed the momentum.

As to Batch ...he is off this year cuz ...
the one who pushed him and I don’t think he liked hearing it from him (Leach) is gone. Just a theory… But I suspect these coaches are having a love fest with these players instead of “pushing them” to excel. You cant be their “friend” you have to be their coach. I just believe there is too much appeasement going on. Tubs is certainly the antithesis of Leach. Hell he doesn’t even use curse words – not that he had to.

I think Batch is off because the running schemes
he has worked so hard to make automatic are in the past, he is required to do something different…and something which is not so much his forte.
Stephens is making better decisions he may be quicker as well.

I actually have said this today as well...
Dallas is actually worse than Tech.
This is where I come to get perspective.
Before the season began I had considered buying season tickets. But the home game schedule and my work schedule didn’t make it possible. So I was really looking foward to getting home to see the last two games of the year. Until last night. I had to keep up with the game on the internet because we have no radio here. In the end I was so disgusted that I had given up on the Red Raiders and didn’t care if I ever even heard the name again much less go watch them struggle against Weber State and Houston.
Then I read this post. I really want to continue to be a fan. This years showing makes it very difficult. Seth you said it becomes increasing difficult to find enough things to write week to week, but you said just enough today. I don’t have enough of a football mind to gather my thoughts into anything near what you have put together here.
Thank you for helping me continue to be a fan. I will go watch the Red Raiders win against Weber State and Houston, hopefully…

I do not gloat over the current state of the fanmanship at UT—well maybe a little smile because there are so many ‘fans’ who are fans of winning only and not fans of their team—but their fans are being tested severely.

What everyone else has said
All the hopes and expectations many of us had for this year’s team has disappeared. I can’t, or won’t add to all of the previous posts, except that I agree. While I will keep track of the team, I am through with it all. Not because of how we are losing; we did plenty of that in the past. It is because of why we are losing. Not only am I completely fed up with it all, I am also tired of hearing about it all. Keep up the good work, Seth. I hope you all can somehow will the team on to a better finish than I think they will have, a 1-3 final four games, to finish at 5-7 for the year. I just don’t want to keep posting negatives, which is all hat this team will receive from here on out. Bye.

Silver Linings
1. Playing so many younger players will help out in 2011-12.
2. We had a good year in 2008.
3. How did Tech beat those high-flying (pot smoking) Baylor Bears?
4. Please ask Hance how his firings/hirings have panned out!
5. At least Tech will get a first round draft pick—wait, that will be Jerry’s kids.
6. Going to the Mizzou game, just to count how many empty seats there will be at the Jones.
Are We Better Off Today Than Yesterday?
NO! Tech is the worst team in the Big 12 South. Texas, even having an off-year, will bounce back as they have the talent, the coaches and the pedigree. Oklahoma State has the coaches, the talent and T. Boone Pickens. OU, well, OU always has what it needs. Baylor, with Art Briles, is improving (though I do not think they are as god as their record). TAMU, well, either they’ll improve, or they’ll do what they need to get better as they have the power, money and savy to do so.
Tech, we have an offense in disarray, a defense in shambles, a coaching staff that is lost, an Admin and B.O.R. that lacks the brain trust to fully understand, and a team that has nose-dived from near-the-top to bottom-of-the-barrel.
My, how mightily we have fallen. Sadly, I have zero confidence in our coaches and our Admin/B.O.R. to make the changes necessary to quickly right the ship.
Take the "P" out of "Pirate" and I'm "Irate"!!!
Sorry State of Affairs
As crappy as the football is now, I have no excuse to travel to Lubbock and not stay home work the weekends. For Leach’s style of Tech football, the sacrifice was worth it. For this boring losing mess, forget it. I’m shifting into UTEP basketball mode.
The worst part of this situation is that the football affects everything at Tech. My daughter just started at Tech and she wants to transfer. Why? Who knows. But how many kids were previously attracted to Texas Tech by Mike’s pirate BS and the good ship Airraid?
I hope Sheffield plays, but I wouldn’t count on it. And someone explain why Detron Lewis continues to fumble punt returns, drop balls, and fumbles, and continues to start and play the majority of the game. If we’re going to ask for Potts to be benched, Lewis needs to be right there with him. Acoountability please.
Alot of youngsters looking into transferring.
And I mean A LOT. As a student I can honestly say that Tech seems to have went downhill a little more every year I’ve been here.
Really?
not because of football, right? Tech is a great place even w sorry ball

Its just weird. I think they expanded too much too fast. Everything is completely packed, no freshmen know the fight song or the matador song, no one cares about traditions anymore, no respect for others at all, its just not as good as it once was. And yeah, to be honest, the shitty football season seems to have made this year much much worse than last year’s. I have a similar sentiment…I admit, and you may have observed, that when a point is posted I will often take a contrarian view, I like that as a way to get ideas…it is not intended as an affront to any poster.
I do like ideas and words and thoughts…and when the opportunity arises, I will be honored to buy.
The reason I, and I believe, many others hang around on this blog is because we are fans, we love our school, and we like to talk about it with anyone who is equally passionate….
I learn more from all the posters on this site than I give, even with my many contrarian questions…they are all to see what the next thought might be and never to put a person in a bad light…if it ever comes across otherwise, I am happy to apologize…I never intend an actual affront to a person, I might challege a thought because there is often more to be learned.

Tech could have beat A&M
Two fumbles near the end zone then the offensive pass interference in the endzone… That is 21 more points we could have scored, to make it 48-45 with a Tech victory.
Sheffield really showed some flash in the 4th quarter, if we want to salvage this season and potentially upset Mizzou and OU the next two weeks we will have to play him. Either that or Potts will have to play with an attitude and with a chip on his shoulder to prove his doubters wrong from here on out.
I would love to agree with you on this but I simply can’t. Tech was out played and out coached all day long. Mistakes were made but we simply had nothing in our bag of tricks that A&M couldn’t identify. Tech has become very predictable and that won’t win football games. Bad calls and turnovers kill a close game but we were playing catch up all day long and I never thought we were close.

Anyone notice Auburn's No.1
In 08, they fired TeleTubby and hired a promising Big 12 coach. In 09 we fired a proven Big 12 coach and hired TeleTubby. In 08 they were unranked 5-7and didn’t get to go bowling. While Tech was a top 10 team. Now we find ourselves unranked and on the verge of not going bowing for the first time in a long time and Auburn’s is now a BCS contender.
The irony just kills me. We took a wrong turn somewhere. I’m pretty sure we got the TeleTubbies running this program. All four of them, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po, and Tinky Winky.
Anybody got a Football GPS? I really miss seeing my team.
Said it before, will say it again...
There is absolutely NO REASON to start Sheffield at this point. If you think Potts can’t win, let’s play someone who will see time NEXT YEAR. Let’s say some “magical” best case scenario has Sheffield leading Tech to 4 wins (winning over OU at home? unlikely, and over Mizzou, probably not) We have an 8-4 team with a mid to lower tier bowl game, and then next year we’re in full rebuild on offense. More LIKELY scenario is that even with Sheffield we AT BEST win 3 games and finish 7-5, or 6-6, and a lower tier bowl if at all.
Why not start one of the underclassmen and get a head start on next year? Much like we’re not getting Coach Leach back, we’re also not getting the first 8 games of the season back. You say we shouldn’t have run this far in the season with Potts instead of Sheffield, ok, congrats, you were likely right, but what do we gain starting him now? I can say the move of the Texas game to early in the season was idiotic and cost us at LEAST 2-3 games (minimum) over the last 2 seasons, but nothing can be done about that NOW. I just don’t get why people want to put Sheffield in to lead (at best) a mediocre team to (at best) a mediocre record. Thanks Texas Tech admin, we’re back to the comfort of mediocrity.
(btw, Ruffin McNeil was on ESPN radio yesterday to talk about how well things are going for him at East Carolina)
JMO- Don't Mail It In
IMO Tubs owes it to the Senior class to try and win the rest of our games with the best available players. Many of these seniors will never play again & I doubt they would appreciate it if Tubs mails it in by playing the next generation. They put in the work and deserve a shot at a bowl game- if we get to 6-6 and somehow win a bowl game, then it won’t be a losing season (Tubs will remind everyone of this). If we get up by 40 on Weber St, then bring in next year’s QB for a taste.
Throw first and ask questions later.
mail it in?
I’m sorry, but what about this year makes you think our seniors “put in the work and deserve a shot at a bowl game”? There are a few exceptions in there, but there’s been a lot of Apathy on this team. Sure, Potts may not have been a great WB for the season, but we’re not 4-4 SOLELY because of Potts. Do you think we put up more than 45 points against A&M with someone else at QB? Do you think A&M stops at 45 if we were keeping pace? I dunno, MAYBE we win the Iowa State game with Sheffield, but I doubt it. I have no idea on the UT game, both teams are terrible and that game was pretty brutal all around. Point being, it takes a TEAM to do well, and I don’t think I’ve seen a great TEAM this season. I’ve seen flashes from individual PLAYERS, but that doesn’t mean anyone “deserves” anything.
Like Leach said last year, they’ve gotta go out and play and give it their best, and just like last year, I don’t know that this group is doing that.
It's a game of chaos.. I like our chances..
I sat in section 148,row 31, end zone visitor side. I enjoyed being there because on row 31 we are right with the Going Band. They – the band are a trip. More on that later. The comments above while cathartic are pretty inaccurate. We had our chances. The team is sub optimizing.. by that I mean they aren’t making their own luck. This season is no different from the 2007 or 08 or 09 for that matter same basic team speed and strength. The difference is pretty basic when you get on the field make a play, cause something to happen. The defense just needs 2 x more tipped passes and 2 x interceptions ( or take aways). We had them Saturday. We got those take aways just did not capitalize on having the ball back. They our beloved Raiders, just didn’t close the deal. It’s not from coaches trying to lose games they are just as driven as their peers. What is different is the little bit of luck and or energy to get to the next play. Its correct the secondary is young. Its correct DE Scott Smith is not getting to remove 40 x snaps from his side of the field. It’s true that Sam Fehoko hasn’t made 25 x TFL. Its true Colby Whitlock is a certifiable warrior. But taken as whole the defense is getting picked on. It’s a three sided game. It will never be anything but a three sided game. They the defense need help and it’s not for or from the defense itself it’s from the offense. They just have to stay on the field for few extra plays get in the red zone and create a little mayhem on the opposite side of the ball. Its really not very complex aTm is a mediocre offense led by a mediocre coach with a mediocre fan base. The Tech offense can’t run a 2nd down and 8, draw play, it’s got to get 5 yards a pop, then execute the change up with the shovel pass. Once we follow thru with a TD, then get 2 x scores up whereby, we get to take the chances on defense like aTm. Get up 2 scores and play down hill without 2 x fumbles in the red zone. By our offense. You the Tuberville coached team allowed aTm to inflict this game pain on the over worked defense they started just taking chances on zone blitzes which just forced T. Potts to miss more passes. In reality the Raiders / Nascar / Air Raid / is just a zone read passing attack. Whichever receiver is being played soft is allowed to get those all important 7.8 yards in YAC/RAC. So against the aggies once the laws of chaos struck us down i.e. fumbling into the end zone twice our offense became predictable and easier to stymie. It’s harder when your Qb throws hard bullets and our receivers drop a few. As a former regime used to say just make routine plays. The team must Get off the mat and make another routine play. I agree with Seth, if you think Coach Brown has to go, the next guy, offensive coordinator will be even more conservative. We are the thirdish team in the state of Texas. Don’t kid yourself from a talent perspective the good looking coeds who populate the corridors of Tech can only attract a third of the folks required to routinely bet a UT , AtM and OU. It’s a winning program which gets 4 star players to sign up. So as far as this season is concerned it’s now a gut check 4 x games to go. Mizzou a toss up in the Raider crater. OU hard to win in Norman. Weber state just don’t melt down. Houston get for revenge for 2009, ah revenge a dish best served cold. Then draw the mid tier bowl and win it folks. Finish at 9 and 4 and go hit the recruiting trail.
Sit tight dear fans while I tell you a funny vignette from the game. I have only been able to sit near the Going band one other time in the last 25 years. That was at the 06 Insight Bowl. So it’s the end of the 3rd quarter in Aggie land, the band hot and sweaty from the half time show, is trying to help the team and our paltry band of Techsters make noise when a uniformed Aggie Kadet runs up the aisle in section 148 of Kyle field and grabs a band dress black pantera formal band head gear off the bleachers and tries to run off with it as a "war" prize. Well no dice, the last tuba player (no shit row # 30)end of the line ( 20 years old) a good man – Dave jumps into the aisle and nails the thief with a flying head lock while still wearing his tuba over his shoulder. He puts a flying, dynamic choke hold on the bastard and proceeds with a little help from yours truly and a another raider fan subdue the jackal. We then began to berate the scoundrel recovered the absconded head gear and turn his pilfering ass over to the Cops. It’s a total hoot because the ass hole aggies fans sat still, did nothing and then were promptly subjected to our collective Lubbock style derision for allowing such a swinish behavior in the hallowed confines of Kyle filed. It actually made the game a bearable / a plus for us out numbered tech fans.. needless to say Dave the Tub player was an instant cult hero. So top that fellow jaded and much bebothered tech fns. BTW it’s never as bad or as good as it seems.. Guns up! Keep the faith.
"do routine things routinely"
I noticed on Texags today that they made mention of the tuba incident. They have a thread dedicated to the douchebag aggie fans that were at the game. Sort of surprising, to be honest. But they are a high and mighty fan base. They didn’t like the student’s wearing f*** Tech t-shirts. Shocked they can even get in the stadium wearing those.
Thank You
for bringing some sanity to an otherwise quixotic discussion.
LOW BRASS KICKS ASS!
Way to go Tuba Dave!
Mike Leach is dead to me.
Low Brass does indeed kick ass!
Baritone player here. Marched DCI for a few years too.

lead sop. I hate that you probably weren’t old enough to drink (or walk) at that time.

You fit my mental image to a T, although perhaps a bit shorter
That could be from pictures you’ve posted on here before though haha
Probably.
I’m every bit of 6 feet tall. And I will fight and defend that to the death. I’ll never forget the day it happened. I was at a Doctor’s office getting a DOT physical and he said “72 inches and 0 16th”. I did a short dance/jig and called everybody I knew. That was a good day.

Nobody from high school recognizes me.
I always get the “you’ve changed, you don’t look the same”. If you grow 2" inches after high school, gain about 30 lbs., and end up sleeved and tattooed all over, I’m willing to bet you don’t look the same.

Sadly, everyone recognizes me...I cannot hide.
I am still the tall skinny guy—at least compared to them. From HS I have gained 45 lbs…and I look more normal than fat…I was a skinny, skinny, rope like creature.
We are all equally wrinkly and gnarly…
as for me and my house, we chose the Lord.
THIS is the bright spot we were looking for!
Tuba Dave is a play maker, get this kid a bigger scholarship and put him in the game!

HC TT just has no clue!
“All you’ve got to do is make a first down,” Tuberville said. “We’re not good enough to do that right now – just knock it out. We’re too much of a lateral team in running the ball. We’’ve got to find a little bit better running game, some different ideas in the running game, just to try to help our defense out.” That statement from TT just about sums it up! What a freaking Loser!

Let's be honest with ourselves
I had mentioned in a past comment that the worst thing about this year is the division of Texas Tech fans. Some of us like Tuberville and some of us do not. Some of us want Potts and some of us want Sticks. But here is the reality of where we are at regardless of public opinion:
FACT: We are in last place in the Big12 South
FACT: If a ‘W’ is a ‘W’ (i.e. Colorado game) then a lose is a lose and that’s what aTm handed us
FACT: It takes 6 wins to be bowl eligible. We are currently 4-4 overall.
FACT: Leach had 10 consecutive seasons with bowl games (I’m a realist. I know Leach is not coming back but this does stand to be mentioned as he was last HC here).
FACT: Auburn is ranked #2 and undefeated WITHOUT Tuberville.
Take these as you wish but I think I know where my opinion is leaning on various factors. I will forever support Texas Tech Football but can not currently support this coaching staff or the stubborn folks who brought in the changes to our TTU system.
Seth, your job is getting tougher but hopefully will get better as the school year goes on. Good luck buddy…
GO TECH!
