Fastest Tech Player cont......
I liked the question about who is the fastest Tech footbally player ever and the proposal that Ben McRoy may indeed by the fastest. That question didn't get a lot of play in the aftermath of Seth's post, so I thought I'd throw it up here for a little discussion.
One mention on that other thread was Tyrone Thurman. I was at Tech during Tyrone's career and while he may indeed be the best kick/punt returner in Tech history - another wide receiver during this period I believe was the fastest player to ever play for Tech - WR Wayne Walker. Does anyone agree, disagree or have some other names to throw out there?

Speed kills!
Tyrone (smurf) was my days at Tech as well and he was lightening fast on returns. It’s hard to campare McRoy to him yet but I think McRoy has better athletes around him which will help his game. I’ve mentioned that I would really like to see McRoy as an inside receiver or in a similar capacity to Welker. Obviously, we would be missing out not having this guy as return guy on special teams play. At running back I think we already have plenty of depth and more horses on the way. Things could be really dangerous for opposing defenses going up against Ward, Corker, Torres and McRoy. All we need now is a QB that can throw to a receiver in stride.

One more thing...
The decision to pull this kids(McRoy) red shirt is pure stupidity. A few plays in a season is worthless and makes no sense at all.

I didn’t think Thurman was exceptionally fast, but he was very quick with good speed. His mom, however, was exceptionally loud…she brought a coffee can full of coins to the games and sat next to the band. She would shake that thing as hard as she could when he went back to field a kick. Pretty funny, actually.
Carlos Francis
Carlos Francis was a fast son of a gun. I don’t remember exact times, but I do remember when he was going through the combine they kept retesting him because they didn’t believe how fast his times were. Can anyone back this up?
I do remember that,
he played backup to Randy Moss in Oakland for a while. My thought was it was somewhere around 4.3 in the 40.

Talking about Deon Sanders having what most recognize as one of the fastest 40 times at the combine, ever. But he isn’t on the list which is odd.
He ran his 40, kept running out the tunnel and the stadium to a waiting car and drove off. So the story goes…

From the competition day website that Tech used to host, he had the fastest recorded 40 time at Tech – an absolutely blazing 4.16!
Too bad he ran a 4.9 at his combine…
could be... my money is on inflated times, though...
kinda like what the Florida program did recently
4.21
In hs had a classmate that ran a 4.21 as timed by good old coaches hand held., white guy at that and he was the final leg of the 4A state championship sprint relay
Dont buy the Espn/Disney/ABC hype ! Playoffs are just spin to hide their agenda of owning our favorite sport.
O yea, kid had a track scholorship at Tech, tried to walkon football, voided his scholorship and ended up playing football in Alpine, not too smart

I'm all about modern technology and the electronic clock.
Although, as seen by the players listed there, a good 40 time obviously doesn’t translate over to a good football player. And I didn’t even know they had a football team in Alpine… weird.

Bo knows
Recently on the radio I heard that Bo Jackson ran an electronically timed 4.18 at the combine.
I recently heard that Jacoby Franks was the fastest person on our team but that was before McRabbit.
Fastest ever? Probably Francis
Slowest ever? Potts and Cumbie need to race. Someone please set that up at halftime for the Houston game. We need a way to get fans to the game.
shame on you for only thinking of skilled positions...
Brandon Carter vs. Jonathan Gray (class of ‘99?)… that’s the clydesdale race I want to see.
Did you ever see Jonathan Gray cannon ball off the high dive in the Men’s Gym. Most water displacement I have ever seen.
no...
but I did see him try to fit into a desk in my algebra class. Those things weren’t even big enough for even one of his enormous hams!
Ivory McCann was fast!!
I don’t know what happened after the 2001 season, I don’t remember him in 2002.

His first kickoff return
went 108 yards against New Mexico. Googled his name and found quite a bit of info, including this: “Ivory is so fast, he can jump out of bed, shower, shave and get dressed before the sheets hit the bed.” LOL!
Rodney Blackshear
Not sure what his 40 time was, but he could run. Was pretty good with running back kicks vs TAMU as I recall.
