INFORMATION: Detail
OPPONENT: Missouri Tigers (7-1, 3-1)
DATE: November 6, 2010
LOCATION: Lubbock, TX
WEATHER: Sunny, 72
TIME: 7:00 p.m. CST
TV: ABC
RADIO: Affiliates
GAME CAST: Fox Sports

Synopsis of the Game | By the time this post goes up, I'm not sure if I will have had the time to write the MU offense vs. TTU defense (if I don't, I'm sorry), but Missouri is an excellent offense and were it not for Robert Griffin, III, Blaine Gabbert might be the best quarterback (not including Nebraska's Martinez) in the Big 12 right now.  I don't think the Texas Tech defense has enough to keep pace with Missouri on offense.  The Missouri rushing game isn't great, but the Tigers are 23rd in the nation in passing and 33rd in the nation in scoring offense.  I'm picking Darrin Moore as my offensive MVP because I'm not sure if there are many options out there (there are, but at some point, I'm going to take a picture of me grasping for straws and link to it where it's appropriate) and Brian Duncan for my defensive MVP because this defense isn't half as good when he's not getting to the quarterback.  He's got to get there.

The line opened at 6.5 and has moved down to 4.5.  Must have been quite a bit of money on Texas Tech to force a 2 point swing.

Offensive MVP | WR Darrin Moore

Defensive MVP | OLB Brian Ducan

Final Score | Missouri Tigers 42, Texas Tech Red Raiders 35

Did anyone catch the forecast?

Suppose to be 10 mph with gusts up to 15 mph. How in the world will we ever be able to play??

We are committed to the run...

and thus the wind shouldn’t be a problem. Gameplanning on having the wind at our back for our punts is tricky though.

True, but that dang strong wind can sure mess with one's cuts in the running game.

I invision running backs making a cut and then falling over from a brief gust, maybe even rolling a few tumbles towards the sidelines before they can stabilize themselves. It will be hell. Hell, I say.

A 10 MPH wind could push the lighter RB's in the wrong direction

They should practice in one of the wind tunnels the professors use to study tornados.

I would like to base my decision on which QB we have starting, if its the tall skinny guy, we win, but he won’t make MVP. Just the difference. Gotta change things up

Have some hope kids !

The boys in Vegas opened Texas Tech +6.5 then it moved to +4, which means that someone out there knows enough of something that so much $$$ went on Tech in the first day that the line moved to entice more people to “vote” on Missouri to even out things. At this point in the year the computers and wise guys are quite close !

Then again Atm is only getting 3 vs OU.

Dont buy the Espn/Disney/ABC hype ! Playoffs are just spin to hide their agenda of owning our favorite sport.

I only play in the fastasy world, but I could have made a fortune on TECH this year

except for the Colorado game, and that would have been a push. How can they pick TECH over Missouri.

I will predict TECH to win 35 to 34, but that is with my heart and not my butt.

Sticks is my MVP even if he doesn’t play, which I don’t think he will because it is now clear that Stiicks beats to his own drum, and you do not do that under Tubby. Just ask Smith.

DMVP is going to be Mr. Bird. Why not.

Can’t wait for Post Game Thread, its going to be fun boys.

Call me crazy

I see this as the first signature win under the Tuberville era of 2010. We have no more big wins left after this game so this is it. OU will curb stomp us next week in Norman and the last 2 games are very far from elite competition. Question is will this staff risk starting Sheffield. It’s a double edged sword. If he starts and succeeds the staff looks like they didn’t make the right choice from the beginning and if he doesn’t start and we lose they look like a bad coaching staff once more that can’t win at home. Tough call but I say send Potts deer hunting. I like our chances in this game especially if Sheffield starts.

Tubby has even killed our home filed advantage. The reason The Jones was so much fun was because we always had a chance to win. Now no one believes that we can win, so no freaking crazy rowdy fans.

the only way we win is if missouri takes us lightly because their FL girlfriends tell them how good they are.
But i dont think thats gonna happen after their loss.
I voted tech will lose by at least 7 but Ive seen good teams lose to lesser teams every week this season so anything is possible and I think tech is due for an upset.
When Sheffield goes out onto the field the crowd will get into it and that will provide the spark.

I think this is a wild one. I have no doubt, if SS starts, we have a different energy and different level of overall execution. And that will bleed over to the defense – for a while. But in the end, we will struggle to keep Mizzou from rolling in the second half.

Close at half, maybe even a Tech lead. But Mizzou romps in the 3rd and 4th.

I will be at this game. First time this year and I hope the magic returns of the great games I have seen here. I will have fun regardless. I predict a complete abomination of the raiders. But I’m hoping for the underdog tech to make a cameo appearance. My guns r already up!!!

No crystal ball

I have no idea -and know everything looks bad for the team right now.
Realistically I doubt a win.

BUT:

But If I am going to make a prediction, I might as well go big:
Optimisim? Sunshine? Hope? Naw- just WAY too much caffeine.

Solid/respectable but not devastating win. Might even be the big one of the year.

1. Tech by 14+

2. Potts all 4 quarters and looking like Heisman material.
Sticks: in for 5 minuets of gametime just to say hi.
Receivers will look pretty good this game too but not excellent.

3. Oh boy- way too many penalties and 2 blown ref calls, but not a gamebreaker.

4. The air-raid returns. Good competent football does too.

5. Tubs gets a flood of emails, but this time they are all pictures of kittens.

6. Mike leach is lost at sea and declared dead – ending the debacle.
However… some weeks later, Smith and Ligget publish a recent telegram:
“Send Harrell and Batch. Have taken over. Castro whining- Russia pissed.”

…and this concludes my wave of caffeine. Time for siesta.

I am only able to predict these things about a Tech home game with this year's team

I predict that I will buy a large Dr Pepper & a bottled water before taking my seat. I predict that I will quickly down the bottled water so I have a re-sealable dip cup the rest of the game. I predict that I will have 1 dip of Copenhagen per quarter. I predict that the Going Band will play at halftime. I predict that will take pictures of the double T scoreboard whenever Tech gets a lead. No lead, no scoreboard pictures. And I predict we will stay until the final gun is sounded. Finally I predict that if Steven Sheffield plays QB the entire game I will be giddy for the first time all season.

I know that song!

EITS, A good Texas band I had forgotten all about!

I heard of Friday night lights, but never seen it. Apparently it’s about football right here in West Texas.

Compelling speech btw. I’ll have to check out the series someday. It sounds like it really captures West Texas as one of the great cradles of football and speaks to the values we share.

And to think right now in Tokyo people are going about a Friday night totally unaware of West Texas and what football means out here. Sad for them.

by Raider289 on Nov 5, 2010 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions

I recommend this series...

I almost reluctantly started watching it because I disdain weak tv shows…this one is strong…it captures a lot of what I remember of West Texas.

And it is easy to get, a Netflix account it streams to whatever you have to watch it on…I go with my computer…almost any game box that connects to the webs, can host it for your telly. Less than $10 per month for lots and lots of great viewing…all without interruptions that you do not initiate.

Rumor is the Potts will start

On another texas tech board there is a tech fan from KC reporting that Tubs was on radio there this morning, he told in his interview that Potts was really good in practice this week but he will withhold the announcement of starting qb until game time. If this rumor is correct and if Potts really starts then the game is over even before it starts. If Potts plays for even one quarter, we lose this game.
