Double-T Nation Daily Diatribe | 2010-12-29

Who Needs a Ticket: LAJ's Don Williams writes this morning that the TicketCity Bowl has only sold about 30,000 to 35,000 tickets thus far and Texas Tech has only sold 5,200 tickets out of their office. That's not good, but I'm not surprised. I know that a few of you have mentioned that the cost of tickets were higher in purchasing them through Texas Tech, but you could buy tickets from ticket brokers for a much lower cost. The other bad part is that every university for every bowl game is responsible for selling an allotment of tickets. If those tickets aren't sold then the university has to eat the cost of those tickets. I don't know how many Texas Tech has to tell, but I'd guess that it's close to 10,000. We're halfway there.
Post Practice Press Conference: The official site's blog has notes and photos of yesterday's practice and meal at the Hard Rock Cafe. You can watch the post-practice press conference or you can read the transcript (PDF). We have an injury update on D.J. Johnson (hamstring), Detron Lewis (hamstring) and @#%! James (pulled ovary -- totally made up injury). LAJ's Don Williams also has a notebook summarizing the presser including Tuberville saying that the alleged domestic violence incident with James Willis did not have an impact on Willis leaving Texas Tech.
Batch Diary: RB Baron Batch writes about graduating from Texas Tech and leaving Lubbock. Of course, I'd suggest you read the whole thing, but here's a snippet:
I’m officially a Texas Tech graduate as of last week. It’s a great feeling to have my degree and be finished with school. This past week there have been numerous changes that have occurred for me. I sold just about everything that I own and moved out of my house in Lubbock and am now officially a nomad. I no longer have a place of residence and am a drifter! I guess this will make it a tad more difficult for ‘the man’ to find me. Everything I own now fits in the back seat of my silver 99’ Toyota Camry. As I drove home to Midland from Lubbock I looked up and snapped a picture of my rearview mirror that held an image of the Lubbock skyline consisting of four buildings. I thought about all the things I would miss about Lubbock. It is only fitting that I write a farewell letter.
Williams and Hyatt Show Podcast: Ryan Hyatt had Scout.com's Greg Powers on yesterday and Powers thinks that Willis leaving the program isn't going to be a huge problem for recruiting for Texas Tech and also talks about how much he likes Texas Tech commit DeAndre Washington, who is set to visit Oklahoma St. and then Texas Tech. Washington apparently really liked OSU but they didn't offer and now OSU has changed their mind. We'll see.
Spousta Is An Amazing Writer: DMN's Tom Spousta is writing prose at the DMN and it's amazing. Yesterday I thought that Spousta took liberty with his headline and today, he's interpreting the looks on LB Sam Fehoko's face:
"It's like a déjà vu kind of thing," defensive end Sam Fehoko said with an annoyed look that wasn't directed at the dreary, rainy practice the Red Raiders had just finished at Bishop Lynch.
You can't blame the players for the ugly clouds hanging over Tech. You can't blame them for feeling let down, either.
While those above have bickered and postured, sued and slandered, resigned, jockeyed for other jobs or simply left "to pursue other opportunities," Bird, Colby Whitlock, Fehoko and others on an already maligned defense are left to sort through another mess.
Perhaps Fehoko was squinting, but no, it's "annoyed". I have no further comment.
So much more good-strong after the jump.
Changing His Style: WFAA's George Riba did a story on last night's news about how HC Tuberville has changed his ways and has shown that he wants to throw the ball. As mentioned above, DMN's Spousta told us yesterday that Tuberville was going to run the ball even more next year, although I don't think Tuberville said that. Anyway, Riba's story had these quotes (and they're in the transcript linked above) from Tuberville:
"You can tell them, hey listen! We're going to throw the ball and continue to do the same thing on offense, I think a lot of people didn't believe because I've never done that before," Tuberville says. "Now after going through a season, what we do on offense and defense kind of sells itself."
And:
"We just want to make it better," Tuberville says. "We want to make it better in the running game. We want to be more physical."
I intend on getting into this later in the offseason, but I can almost promise you that if you were to ask Tuberville if he's running the same offense as Texas Tech ran last year, he would say he absolutely is. I say that because I think that Tuberville believes that the offense, a spread offense that runs with 10 personnel (1 running back, 0 tight ends) 90% of the time, is the same type of offense. Anyway, you can watch the whole thing here and I can't wait for the cage match between Spousta and Riba to find out which reporter is reporting things accurately:
Northwestern and TicketCity Bowl Links: Sippin' On Purple's Rodger Sherman asks his fellow Wildcats to pick the best name on the Texas Tech roster (personally, I think it's Cqulin Hubert, but I don't want to influence the results) . . . also from Sippin' On Purple is the Fear-O-Meter for the Texas Tech offense . . . Off Tackle Empire's Hilary Lee with her post from the Foot Bet . . . Chicago Tribune's David Haugh writes about LB Bryce McNaul and his brother, Austin, who is serving in Iraq (I recall another story earlier in the week about this, but it just reminds me to think that we all need to remember those guys and gals serving our country) . . . also from the Chicago Tribune is a story on RB Stephen Simmons who may pick up the slack for injured RB Mike Trumpy . . #

Reese Making a Name for Himself: LAJ's Courtney Linehan writes about SF Brad Reese and his decision to commit to Texas Tech after looking at a handful of schools, including Iowa St., LSU and Oklahoma St. Here's Reese:
"At the time I wanted to go somewhere where my talents would be needed," Reese said. "Oklahoma State had James Anderson, a player just like me. Iowa State had Marquis Gilstrap. I wanted to go to a place where I could be used a lot, get early playing time. I found it at Tech."
And head coach Pat Knight talks a bit about Reese and PF D`walyn Roberts:
"Brad’s kind of like D’Walyn Roberts: there’s no complaining or anything," coach Pat Knight said. "He just goes to work."

I will miss Barron Batch
Nothing is more bittersweet than your last day in college.
“I guess happiness was Lubbock, Texas
In my rear view mirror
But now happiness is Lubbock, Texas
Growing nearer and dearer
And the vision is getting clearer
In my dreams
And I think I finally know
Just what it means
And when I die you can bury me
In Lubbock, Texas, in my jeans"

I LOVE that song and the way it makes me feel when I listen to it.
I got to see Mac Davis last year in Austin at the Paramount when he was inducted into the Texas Songwriters Association.
He sang that song and everyone in the crowd was singing along.
NUTS - Never Underestimate TEAM Strength
Coach Tuberville does run a spread offense. They do throw to win games. However the scripted runs and rushing tendencies seem to telegraph to the defense. Some of that is the blocking execution ie a missed assignment wrecks the play. Just crush the Wildcats and all will be well..

that requires Tuberville to mention Nancy in press conferences and interviews? It just strikes me as odd the number of times that Tuberville has mentioned that piece of trash by name. It is kinda like mentioning that a backup trainer is recovering from a hangnail, very strange.

I do think Tuberville is politically smart. Maybe that is why he mentions junior at press conferences when we all know he is irrelevant – just to go out of his way to show they are paying attention to him (which I hope they aren’t), so that when he doesn’t get playing time it will be hard to argue he wasn’t given fair consideration.
That is countrier than a biscuit. - Garth Brooks
Smart is not a term that I would associate with Tuberville, I have always contended that Tuberville is a lot like Spike Dykes just a little less inteligent.

One of the easiest ways to establish oneself as a sports writer in the Big XII has been to bash Texas Tech. Whether it was bashing Mike Leach (Tim Griffin) or David Ubben making immediate impact with lots of comments to his anti-Tech posts on arrival to Spousta. Onething that remains constant is Texas Tech remains in news, only negatively perhaps.
Correct
Becaue if you give us any credit then all other fans in this state think you are FOS! Like our gimick offense and the crabtree catch really none of that counted. But yet if you look around all of CFB the Air Raid gimick is basically the norm, even at storied Texas.
Dont buy the Espn/Disney/ABC hype ! Playoffs are just spin to hide their agenda of owning our favorite sport.

"Oklahoma State had James Anderson, a player just like me."
Sorry Brad, that player just “unlike” you Anderson was a beast in the Big 12 last year. He lead a team to the NCAA tournament with an average of over 22 ppg for the season. After his junior year and he is now playing with the 1st place San Antonio Spurs, you are playing for our struggling college team as a senior. Maybe PK needs to give our guys a reality check, I like coaches that tell the players how it really is.

Anderson was a steal for the SPURS;
He is currently injured, but played lights out in first few games.

I absolutely love this report by Riba
It’s almost like Tubs, Batch and Stephens are speaking directly to Kenny Williams and Jonathon Gray. I hope they’re listening.
Tubs did contradict himself a little at the end though when he said "The biggest thing you want to do is keep recruiting for what you do." With the stable of running backs that we all hope to sign in February it doesn’t appear that we are recruiting for what we’ve done in the past. I have no doubt that we’ll still run the spread but I can easily see the Texas Tech offense transitioning to a run first or 50/50 spread. i.e. Auburn and Oregon.
I think Scotty Young will dictate to some degree what shape our offense takes. If he is more accurate than Potts then we’ll continue to have a 60/40 ratio throwing the ball. I’m very excited about the potential of the offensive weapons we are accumulating. If we can land two or three 4 star receivers in the next year then we’ll have some serious talent at the skill positions.
I am excited too ...
just hope kid Brown won’t telegraph what the offense is doing so much next year. If he does, it won’t matter if we had Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman back there.

Ouch.
5,200 tickets sold? That stings.
When the tickets first went on sale, I went to stubhub and found quite a few for less than $50… and they were pretty good seats, too. I was really close to buying them, but driving from Austin to Dallas for the 11:00am kickoff on New Years morning was just a little too unrealistic….
I seriously cannot think of a worse time to have a bowl game for an alum base that is notorious for having a really, really good time.
Just checked the tickets again...
Still a WHOLE lotta tickets left…. really good seats and they’re pretty cheap. The one time I can afford to buy great seats…
I think it’s a contractual agreement with the bowl. Every university goes through this. Take UConn for example.

I have mixed feelings about Baron
Like what he writes in his column. But think he is overrated as a player. Also think he could have and should have shown a little more class a la Taylor Potts when Leach was fired.
That is countrier than a biscuit. - Garth Brooks
I still don’t get the lack of class accusations. He said this yesterday:
Asked about Leach, Batch said: "I wish the best for him. I have no bad blood against him. He’s the coach that gave me a shot and offered me a scholarship here, so I’ll always be grateful for that. But we have new coaches here and you’ve got to move on. And you’ve got to move on in the future. But I wish the best for him."
What could Batch say after Leach was fired, again, knowing that if he rocked the boat, his scholarship could have been revoked (they are 1 year contracts) and he could be a player without a team for his senior year, probably without the money to pay for his own education and not receive his diploma? I seem to recall that the worst thing he said was that the “Team Leach” stuff needs to stop and that the fans need to support the players.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
I saw his comments yesterday.
I liked the way Taylor Potts handled it which was just to compliment Leach and thank him. Period. IMO Batch went overboard telling the fans what they needed to do and how they needed to react which was to move on, there was a new coaching staff and they needed to support the players. He could have stopped at his support and thanks to Leach. His comments for moving on and support for the players could have come later if he felt he needed to make those points. It seemed like a thanks, but… to me.
As has been said many times, supporting Leach does not equal not supporting the players.
And handling the situation the way Taylor Potts did was not going to put anyone’s scholarship in jeopardy. Just my preference for the way the situation should have been handled by a high profile player.
That is countrier than a biscuit. - Garth Brooks
Perhaps if you were a player on the team then maybe you would have felt like you were being attacked. Asking fans to support the players, in my opinion, is not classless, as you have characterized him.
Go Raiders . . .

Whoa, Seth, I did not characterize him as classless. I said he could have shown a little more class in how he handled the situation in my opinion. A little more class implies there is class there to start with.

Okay, fair enough, I misread. But I still don’t understand how asking the fans to support the players lacks class.
Go Raiders . . .

It would have been nice to express at least a little disappointment.
The worst was Ruff’s comments about fully trusting the administration to make the right decision, that just struck me as tossing Leach overboard and one doen’t do that to his best friend.

by FriscoRaider on Dec 29, 2010 10:41 AM CST up reply actions
What if he wasn’t disappointed? I don’t know Batch as a person, but what if he didn’t like Leach (which I think is okay as you can’t expect every player to like the coach, I’m sure there are players that don’t like Tuberville) and merely wanted the fans to get behind the players.
And I don’t want to confuse what Ruff said with what Batch said. Two separate issues.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
I suspect that he didn’t like Leach, although I have no knowledge of that. I do have some relatives that are close to Baron and at least some of them were not disappointed in the Leach firing.
"A pretty girl will leave you. An ugly girl will leave you too but then again who really cares?"
by FriscoRaider on Dec 29, 2010 10:55 AM CST up reply actions
It’s fine if he didn’t like Leach. But I believe you dance with who brung you and Leach “brung” him. Class to me means not revealing those feelings of not liking your coach publicly. Again, I know that is my personal definition and I recognize that Batch did thank Leach for his scholarship and his opportunity, but always followed by a but…
One thing I like a lot about Tuberville is that he keeps private (discipline, personnel, etc.) issues private. We still don’t know what happened with Scott Smith and probably never will and I’m sure we’ll never get the full story with James Willis, at least not from Tuberville. He either genuinely likes Adam James or is pretending to because it is the politically correct thing to do. I know a lot of folks think this makes him smarmy. I think it makes him smart.
That is countrier than a biscuit. - Garth Brooks
I guess I’m just waiting for you to show me this, "always followed by a but . . . " I just don’t know what Batch said that lacked class.

That is countrier than a biscuit. - Garth Brooks
So those statements means that Batch lacks class? I still don’t get it and I don’t endorse asking anyone to do much of anything, but for a player, asking fans to get behind the players means that he lacks class then that seems like an awfully high standard to expect of every player.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
For me it’s the same issue with when people on this site and elsewhere telling me and others when it’s time to move on with the Leach issue. I am the only one who will decide when it’s time for me to move on. And when Batch tied those issues together IMO, for me, I felt like he was telling me that I didn’t support the team when I did and do support the team. Always. I found that personally offensive.
No one else has to subscribe to my line of thinking. But I am allowed to my opinion.
That is countrier than a biscuit. - Garth Brooks
What you think he said and what he did say are two different things. If you interpreted his comments to mean that if you don’t support the players then you’re not a fan, then that’s on you, not on Batch. If he said, we need the fans to be supportive of the players, then he’s not telling you to do anything. I just find it weird to think that a college football player shouldn’t ask the fans to support the players. I’m not going to do that, but it doesn’t seem like a bad thing to ask fans, of a team, to support the players on the team.
Here’s the only quotes I could find quickly:
"We need the fans to be behind the players," the Tech running back said Friday. "We need the fans to be behind these coaches we’re going to have. We can’t have what’s been going on these last two weeks.
"Eventually, the ‘Team Leach’ stuff has to stop. What happens when they hire a coach? Are you still going to do the ‘Team Leach’ stuff? The ‘Bring back Leach’ stuff?’
"Eventually, they have to start supporting us again," Batch said of the remaining players and coaches.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
Dang Seth, I can tell you are a lawyer. You are really making me back up my arguments!
Those are exactly the comments I’m talking about.
The third quote – when were the fans EVER not supporting the players??? “Eventually they have to start supporting us again?” Other than Adam James, when did the fans not support the players???
The first quote – “…we can’t have what’s been going on these last two weeks.” I assume he is referring to the “Team Leach” uprising. We can’t have vocal dissatisfaction with the firing of the winningest coach in Tech history? We can’t be REALLY upset with the admin and how they handled the situation?
The second quote – “Eventually, the ‘Team Leach’ stuff has to stop…” Really, we can’t exercise our rights to rally against what we believe to be an unjust action taken by the administration that we not only disagree with but also found harmful to the school’s reputation nationally?
I agree with him about the “bring back Leach” stuff. That was never going to happen. But don’t tell me what I can and cannot be upset about and how I can express that. Other than Adam James I never saw ANYTHING aimed at the team.
That is countrier than a biscuit. - Garth Brooks

He didn’t tell anyone not to rally or support a cause. He also didn’t tell anyone one thing or another regarding the administration. He also didn’t tell you not to be upset.
He’s right, on some level, which is that at some point it’s going to stop. Eventually, it will, but I’m not going to guess as to when that is.
And if there were rallies and arguments supporting the coach that had just been terminated, then do you not think that its crazy to think that the players (18 to 22 year old folks) might think that you don’t really support them? That doesn’t seem like it’s that farfetched and these players were dealing with a situation that was completely out of their control, and if the one thing that Batch asked for, to support the players, lacks class then that just seems unfair.
Perhaps I’m not scrutinizing his comments enough, but for me, the heart of what he said was that he wanted the fans to support the players.
I still don’t know that equates to Batch lacking class.

or any coach or player in any sport that recognizes the value of fans to their sport.
‘We’ do need fans to be behind the players.
The ‘Team Leach’ stuff is devisive, it splits the fanship and would be harmful to the success of any organized effort.
The last comment is a more personal expression of his frustration.
We have all read much of Batch’s comments this season because he cared enough to write a blog, expose his thoughts to a very discriminating fanship. We can tell that it is not his way to tell the world what to do, he may laugh at behaviors, and express frustration like any of us, but he is not telling anyone what to do with the quotes above.

For me it was the context in which he did it – he linked it to people being upset with Leach’s termination. Again, for me two totally separate issues. Also, he linked it to moving on. My being ready to move on with being upset about Leach and my support for the players have nothing to do with each other. If his appeal to support the players was an independent statement, such as, “this is a trying time for the team and we really need/appreciate the support of the fans,” or something to that affect then fine.
But to tie it to the other issues, I had a problem with that.

Just seems like to me that it’s unfair expect a kid, that may feel like he’s being attacked by fans to ask them to support the players and have a reaction that’s well-manicured and appropriate seems unfair. Go take a look at everyone was reacting to that situation, I’m sure that those of us as adults that were on DTN or other websites probably didn’t have the forethought to react appropriately. And then to be in the middle of it probably even amplifies the situation more. I still do not understand that the rationale of, Potts handling the situation one way means that Batch, asking fans to get behind the players, means that Batch lacks class.

It’s okay for Tech loving, team supporting people to disagree!
Although I think you make a fair point about these guys being kids – sometimes I forget about their age. They certainly can’t be expected to be polished in their handling of difficult situations.

Couldn't disagree more regarding Baron Batch
Batch has been one of the most classy players at Tech not just on this team, but of all time. His charity work and lead-by-example attitude have been unparalled.
When you’re own fans are ripping your team, chanting against you, holding up derogatory signs, etc…. are you supposed to keep quiet? Not if you are a leader like Batch.
I actually think the quietness of Potts and the vocalness of Batch speaks volumes about the two players’ demeanors. Potts has never been much of a leader, and as the QB, it has really affected the entire team. Batch on the otherhand, personifies leadership every time he touches the field.
Even if they were only ripping Adam James

Missouri game last night
Stayed up late last night watching what was the first of the Big XII bowl games. Missouri looked good but made mistakes late. Iowa really showed up and played without some starters. I’m not sure how the Mizzou player from Plainview TX got away from us. Egnew who played TE. The kid was a beast and I’m hoping our future TE’s will bring what he has brought to the Missouri offense.
Batch: We will miss this guy and he will miss Lubbock TX as he mentioned. I really didn’t think when I left Lubbock after graduation I would miss it. I look forward to road trips out that way every year now and consider myself very lucky to have a history there.
Tuberville: I really hope our guys are ready for this bowl game. We had a tough season with some highs and lows but if we continue to get to talent via recruiting we will see improvement. A big win would be a nice way to set the tempo for next season.
Ubben: I just have to say the guy looks like Elf on the shelf. Some of you might know what that is.
Looking forward to the Baylor game today and OKST game tonight! I’m pulling for all south team less A&M this year.

Missing Lubbock
Isn’t it funny how much we end up missing Lubbock? Didn’t miss it much right after graduating but now I LOVE going back there. Hope to get to more than one home game next year.
Folks who write Lubbock off have no idea what they’re missing.

I go back to see almost all Texas and aTm home games for the past 30 years.
I have been able to sprinkle in several Oklahoma and some non coference games, but I look forward going back each time. I also have a special connection now since my daughter married a guy from Lubbock who will graduate this May. He spent four years in the Army, and is finishing up his degree, and will also finsih up in the reserves.
They also blessed me with a nine month old grandson, so we are going back more often. I am even thinking of season tickets next year.
I am going to miss Batch and Whitlock a lot. Really love those guys who just work their tail off each and every Saturday.

After watching the game last night; and take into consideration the game in Lubbock,
Would you rather have Gabbert or Potts. Potential is over flowing with both, but neither can seem to enjoy success.

I probably go with Gabbert
Seems like this guy will command respect. Looks to be more confident than Potts but I agree they do have similar aspects.

I will take Potts
I think if he had a second season to mature into the offense with Leach, we would all be singing a different song this season. Very few of Tech’s QBs have been able to excell with only one year in the system.

This is actually a good topic, one that I was going to flesh out later in the offseason, but I sorta thought that by Brown taking away some of Potts’ responsibilities made him a better QB. He had bad games, but he turned the ball over fewer times and had a much better TD:INT ratio, although his YPA (over 7 in 2009 to 6.8 or 6.9 this year). Personally, I think the best thing that happened to Potts was not giving him so much leash because I think he would have continued to make those bad decisions.

Cumbie, Symmons, Hodges…that’s 50% of the starting Tech QBs since Leach arrived with the others being Harrell (3 years), Kingsbury (3 years), and Potts!

Kingsbury got a lot better over his 3 years and certainly Harrell did as well. Do you not remember all of the calls for the backup QBs back then. One of them left for Auburn.

His first year was very solid
As was everyone that came after him until potts. Had Potts followed suit, sticks never would have taken over last year. Let sleeping dogs lie with Potts, we saw his very sporadic upside and that is what you get with him. He completely lacks consistency.
Let’s be glad we have a plethora of choices next year.

Lubbock
Strangely, last night on HGTV was a couple who were buying a house in Lubbock. It really showed the town off great and had some gorgeous video of campus and the cotton fields. I have never wanted to move back to Lubbock, but to write it off as ugly, or say that it is a crappy town, is just not true. I love coming back for football games. Lubbock is awesome! They also kept repeating that it was a sellers market in Lubbock b/c the town is still growing and the economy is still doing well in Lubbock. That was nice to hear.
I’ve heard from a few people that Willis was recruiting players to Florida. If so, that is baffling. At this point I don’t care unless it impacts us somehow (other than losing the most overpaid defensive coordinator in the big 12…).
Tubs: I also agree that he thinks he runs the same offense. I however, know that we do not run the same offense. We have more plays, and our philosophy is totally different (run to set up the pass). I don’t think running it more changes the offense, because that is just play selection, but I don’t think we run the same offense. However, a new QB next year will help a lot, and if we start to run the ball more effectively, all will be well. I’m still optimistic about our offense.
Batch is a great guy and that is that.
I talked to someone in Lubbock yesterday and he said he didn’t know anyone going to the bowl game. I am going with some friends (paid $75 which now I’m thinking is a rip off). The problem is you have too much supply (90K stadium) with not enough demand (tiny NW plus Tech’s worse year in 10 years at the same stadium we have played at 4 times in the last few years). I just hope we win and can forget about this whole thing soon.
If it is true about Willis recruiting players to Florida while employed by Tech ...
then he needed to be shown the to the door immediately.

People that think Lubbock is ugly or trashy havent benn to Odessa, Midland or Big Spring (my hometown). The economy in Lubbock is doing very well and the Overton redevelopment really is a great mutual benefit to all parties. Not to mention Lubbock does have quite a few more trees than other WT towns, considering Campus and Tech Terrace.
The six lane high speed blvds do really strike me as strange now that Ive benn gone for a few years. 50th Street has to be the widest street in all of America
Dont buy the Espn/Disney/ABC hype ! Playoffs are just spin to hide their agenda of owning our favorite sport.

Houston is flatter than the panhandle area
.
I used to get annoyed with my friends and other people that I ran into in Lubbock who would talk about how ugly and flat Lubbock was and complain about the odor.
But come to find out they were from the Houston area.
Talk about flatlands and the smell from the oil refineries and the Houston ship channel are worse than anything I ever smelled in Lubbock.
While I agree 50th steet is wide, it has nothing on Westheimer Road in Houston, TX where in some instances it is 6 to 8 lanes wide in each direction.

I see nothing trashy about Midland.
Odessa on the other hand is am acquired taste.

Turned down a huge raise, too.
My prediction is Malzahn…based on twitter comments recently. I venture that they have a deal and the announcement is made late tonight or tomorrow. Gotta let Fridge bask in this huge win one last time. No inside info.
I thought this was interesting as well. Apparently it was June’s agent putting out the word that he declined a $3.5 million offer.
So that means Jones was first choice, it’s looking like Malzahn is 2nd choice and Leach is left twisting in the wind. Really disappointing.

I thought we had a discussion on one of the threads yesterday about Tubs comments. Bottom line being that any guy who would allegedly engage in domestic violence with his wife or any other woman is not a good guy, which is what Tubs called Willis.
From my perspective it is not okay to downplay this situation at all. Better for Tubs to keep his mouth shut and at most wish Willis and his family the best. If I was doing PR for Tubs that is what I would advise him.
However, not knowing the details of the domestic disturbance report I can’t really say much more. We don’t know how serious it was, and as inexcusable as I think domestic violence is, I also think it is NOT okay to condemn a man for something before you know the facts.

TicketCity Bowl
Problems with this game 1) Definitely the time, although I’ll be there, 2) Location Cotton Bowl is great but not the right venue for an inaugural bowl, 3) Ticket prices $75 face value for bad seats, although I basically got two for one through TicketCity, 4) ticket outlets Tech, Northwestern, or TicketCity website and 5) TicketCity allocated seats in wrap around fashion on their website-a real bad idea in my opinion. Good things about this game 1) venue is within driving distance for me but that doesn’t help a ton of folks.
If the Cotton Bowl is more than half full it will be a huge surprise and the majority will be in red.
