Spring Game Tickets
Today, I wandered over to the TexasTech.com website. They had tickets on sale for the Spring Game. They are $5 each. While I couldn't order online (a computer glich on their part), I called 888-GOBIG12 (462-4412) and was able to order the tickets. They said to expect them by the end of next week. April 17th can't get here soon enough!!

Nancy's at O bar and Rah Rah's at Chimy's......
Just kidding…but it would be nice to go to a place that has been around a while so that the many ages might enjoy the nostalgia. Or it could just be any place that has beer.

You're so discriminating
That’s what I like about you.

The Spoon?
Been there recently, the girls restroom is by far cleaner than the boys, so the Nancys will feel right at home. =)
In all seriousness, the Spoon is still kicking…….is it nostalgic enough?
"We have a running game at Tech......sometimes we throw short passes." -Mike Leach
I found the FanPost where everyone was remembering the good ‘ole days. The Spoon, Fat Dawgs and JPat’s were the common places that spanned the ages. Of the 3, The Spoon is the only one I could find (online) that is still alive and kickin’. I know Fat Dawgs closed, but is JPat’s closed, too?
The Spoon sounds great. Is there anyone who lives in Lubbock and can make a reservation for us?

Sigh....... (we were robbed)
Any place is fine by me. We didn’t have bars or any alcohol sales inside the city when I attended school. Private parties were the only venue.

Good news though....
No cover charge at the Spoon for seniors!

J-pats
Now referred to as the PMbar. Pretty cool place but not the same feel as J-pats.

No reservations needed for the Spoon....
It’s not that knid of place.

Was the o bar on nobody' radar?
It was happnin in the 80’s and perhaps we can check with the spoon and the o bar and see who will give us the best specials?

Depending on what you are looking for....
The O-Bar on 34th is strictly a Biker bar, and has been since atleast the late 90’s. The location off slide is somewhat more inclusive, but is no longer a “college bar”. It caters more to the recently divorced/happy hour crowd. Picture Chances-R but with seafood. You could argue to a lessor extent that the Spoon has gone the same route. Not much of a Tech feel there anymore as well. If the goal is to find a happening spot, where you get the college feel, but don’t feel to old, Cricket’s on Broadway may be the best choice. It’s big, lots of “talent”, age diverse, and right off Memorial Circle.
"We have a running game at Tech......sometimes we throw short passes." -Mike Leach
I've been to cricket and it's fine....
It sounds like nostalgia might be damned. Chimys wasn’t around in the 80’s, but maybe it’s a good call due to proximity?

Chimy's is awesome...
great food, good vibe…….but very small. If more than 15 of us show up it won’t work.

They have an awesome patio....
That could work if no one else is really there…

I'm guessing
We’re talking about some kind of tailgating pre-game and a bar afterwards? Or is the bar the night before? Both?

I'm not the DTN Czar....
but I would vote for Tailgate prior, bar post. My 2 cents.

As far as I can tell, they are general admission.
I know there was a discussion thread not too long ago where nostalgia ran deep. If I have time tonight, I’ll look it up to see if there was a common place that has lasted through the ages.
I was thinking that had always been free.
I have been wrong before though.

I think the game is being held in the Jones this time...
And will be an actual game, not a glorified practice.
"We have a running game at Tech......sometimes we throw short passes." -Mike Leach
It was at the Jones last year and it was
as game-like as you could get (Leach split up the teams fairly evenly) and it was free.

Have not been to a SP Game yet...
Weird…..wonder why they are charging? Wait, did someone let the cat out of the bag and tell them KWASH was likely to attend? If I knew I knew I was about to clean up that much vomit I would charge $5 too.

So now that you told me my old haunts
are gathering spots for tranny’s and vagrants…..(IJK) where do we stand?
Tailgate prior and bar after? Walking to crickets or Chimys sounds good for afterwards.

Sounds good to me
I’m just worried about getting from the bar to the motel. I’m kinda out of shape when it gets to serious drinking. I guess I’d better go into training right away.

We werent' worried about this in the 80's
but designated drivers (AKA taxi) is the way to go. I am staying at the Residence Inn, and unless I party at the 50 yard line it will be a haul.

I thiink the tailgate would be best....
unlimited adult beverages……..and cigars…..and maybe guns……and hotties.
"There's going to be ups and downs but you have to enjoy the battle." Mike Leach
I'll bring some serious guns if you supply some serious hotties
Oh wait, bringing guns onto a college campus might possibly be a tad politically incorrect nowadays (not to mention illegal). Guess it will just be you and the hotties then.
"I’ve established a reputation for integrity. I have maintained those high standards" - Craig James
And thats a problem..... why?
If its free for students I will do my best to supply some hotties. You old timers just remember that 17 is legal in texas and these girls are all over 18….. you’re good.

I'll spare you guys, I have a reputation to uphold.
She would also ask that I spare you. Odds are, she will be at the Spring Game, can’t afford to have any awkward / tenso moments.

Well at least its really not that much. I mean its kind of annoying to have to pay 5 bucks, but that’s not the worst thing I could think of. At least I get in free for the games for 1 more year. Then the un-fun part starts…
Do other programs make people pay for Spring games?
Anyone know

Im pretty sure tOSU does as well. As for the rest of the big 12, i cant say.

Anyone know the tailgating rules for a SG?
Will it be like a regular game where only the person with the permit can get a vehicle into the parking lot and everyone else has to hike in? I wandered over half the campus last year trying to find some friends hidden in a sea of tailgaters.
"I’ve established a reputation for integrity. I have maintained those high standards" - Craig James
In the past you could park anywhere - no permits requred...however
if the three stooges think they can squeeze a buck or two out of the deal, I’m sure they will change that…….remember we are not here to change anything….only improve……
"There's going to be ups and downs but you have to enjoy the battle." Mike Leach
They won't hire the staff to enforce gameday parking regulations, much less have parking passes printed & distributed
I attended Leach’s 1st spring game 10 years ago & the Jones was maybe 10% full. Parking won’t be a problem. The only program I’ve heard of that ever sold out a stadium for a spring scrimmage was Nebraska a year or two back. 70,000 plus. That is some spring fever.
Please stop ending every controversial comment with 'Just saying'. Drives me batty. Thank you.
Will be in Lubbock
Pretty simple choice for me. If Oscar Meyers is still AD, Tech won’t get $5 from me. If he has been fired/forced to retire, then I’ll attend. Either way I look forward to pre and post game festivities.
