What is your favorite TTU tradition ?
Just to remenisce. With all the talk about traditions, I started thinking about the ones I remember...
Here are a few:
Lining up a couple hours before the gates open so me and my best friend can get seats for our wives when they arrived just before game time.
Sitting in the student section early, warming in the sun on a saturday afternoon, and hearing the first notes of March Glorioso from the Going Band.
Watching the Masked Raider lead the team onto the field in a full gallop.
Watching the Going Band take to the field...at a full gallop...that is still a great entry for a marching band.
After each score, watching the Masked Raider launch into a full gallop, spurned by a loud report for the Army ROTC field howitzer, on a full round of the track encircling the football field.

I also like Will Rogers wrapped in red

Tech Hecklers at the Law
Guns Up – before OSU stole it
+1 which
for some reason does not happen every game now. wtf?

AGREE...... one of the best traditions in the country.
River Boat Gamblers are ALL IN!
Nothing is more badass than
the masked rider riding out of the smoke, guns up, leading our boys onto the field. I too miss the tortilla throwing. Guns Up will always be Tech, no matter how much Okie Lite sucks at creating their own traditions. If i were a student there, i would be embarassed quite frankly. I like seeing Will Rogers and SoapSuds being wrapped in red for homecoming.
P.S. BTW, does anybody know what the barn by the library is used for? or what it was used for?
The barn was an Ag Department building in the late 70's when I was in school
Not to be confused with the barn further north where they used to play basketball games & hold dances before the bubble was built. It had a big red double T in the inverted V. They tore that down sometime in the 80’s.

the "sports" barn.......good times
used to get pick up basketball games there, and played “spaceball” which was played on a trampoline and a little dodge ball.

Loved the Spaceball

MASKED RIDER, is THE best tradition in college football.
As for the barn….. it was the old Milking Barn back when the AG department actually kept animals on campus 40-50 years ago.

Recently? The whole crowd saying"..For another Red Raider FIRST DOWN!!" along w/the announcer
The Raider Power chant is fun too, although it’s not as loud as it used to be. I think a lot of the audience participation stuff was more popular in the 80’s when the team was bad. It was up to the crowd to keep themselves amused for 3 hours.

the original "Raider" "Power" was much slower and
seemed to resonnate more.

Gotta say, the Matador Song
chokes me up every time I hear it.
I also like the team touching the bronze saddle in the ramp.

Long Live…. the Matador!!!
I hope they call the new walk into the stadium “The Walk of the Matadors”… and I hope the Goin’ Band leads the way!!!
River Boat Gamblers are ALL IN!
just remember that this walk will have to take place before
the players get taped, etc. and way before the band normally would get to the stadium. It will also take place while I am somewhere between levelland and brownfield in the newly established nonpay parking.

We also used to have a tradition .....way back.......where
we actually won a conference basketball game.

I remeber that time
When we didn’t have PC’s either.

They were to record the advances in technology that occured at that time.

Horse and rider
Coming out of the tunnel ahead of the football team and rounding the field after a score. The most recognizable and exciting part of all Texas Tech traditions. Second would undoubtedly be the “Gion’ Band from Raiderland”. Both were national firsts. That is tradition and two that I am very proud of when stating my affiliation with Texas Tech. No matter how terrible the administration happens to be, they cannot ever keep our traditions from being a big part of the Red Raider experience. One thing about Tech that may not be mentioned but is definitely a part of Raiderland, is the prevailing style of architecture on campus. It is one thing that sets Texas Tech apart from many other universities. Another mentioned briefly, the HUGE number of BEAUTIFUL WOMEN who attend the Hub City campus. They make every walk across the grounds so much better, no matter what is on one’s mind. Gorgeous!

A few of my faves. . .
Tortillas. I will continue to sneak them in.
The Goin Band.
And one of the newest ones. . playing “Jump Around” while beating OU.
jump around is fun but...
…winsconsin(sp?) has been using jump around since late 90’s or 2000’s..im not sure. They even got a ice cream flavor on campus named jump around.

yup
they play it at the start of the 4th quarter. Watch a winsconsin home game on espn sometime this season and they will prolly show all the fans in the stadium jumping around.

Jump Around
Jump Around is ok when we play OU but I’m getting tired of hearing it at every sporting event. It was OU’s thing before we started playing it. We are not OK State. Let’s leave the stealing to the Cowboys.

I agree with that. They played it at the baseball game yesterday. Not really a good song for a baseball game.
Yeah, they played it at the basketball game a week ago and i was tempted
to jump to my death.

Mine
1. Tortillas
2. Raider-Power
3. Passing for a rediculous amount of yards.
4. Leaving the punter on the sidelines for fourth downs.

Love the Masked Rider leading the players from the tunnel and the white smoke! Best tradition ever.
HATE HATE HATE the “Two bits, 4 bits, 6 bits a dollar….all for the Raiders, stand up and hollar”. It’s so high school-ish and yes, I’m that die hard Raider fan who can stand heaing it.
Love the 2 bits 4 bits a peso....
Just been doing it for 27 years and into it.

I TOTALLY agree
I hate that cheer with such a passion…even today. I remember being in the 5th grade and our ‘cheerleaders’ doing it at that time. That was in ‘84. So it sounds elementary school-ish to me. Can we not some up with something better than that or for the love of catfish get rid of it? That’s one ‘cheer’ I wouldn’t mind OSU stealing so maybe we could let go of it.
Half of my family (including my wife) are aggies, and when Aggies start making fun of your cheers, it’s really, really bad.
Masked Rider, Goin' Band, Tortillas, Raider Power, Fight Song, Passing and daring anyone to stop us...
Don’t like 2 bits… we did that in grade school in the late 60’s… it also seems to kill momentum right when its starting to build…??? (is that just me…? I have never understood this…)
What is that song that the band plays lately where fans wave the Gun’s Up along with the beat?
I like this as a new one…
They shouldn't be doing the "Two Bits" cheer when Tech has the ball
They TRY to time it so the “Stand Up and Holler” happens as the opposing QB starts barking his signals. But since nobody has stood at the end of the cheer in 30 years, it doesn’t work as advertised. I agree that it can be retired.
Please stop ending every controversial comment with 'Just saying'. Drives me batty. Thank you.
I guess I shouldn't have said I don't like it....
I like the Go! Fight! Win! lead in with the band… and that everyone knows the cheer…
I guess it’s more that I don’t like the timing… right when something good happens… they start that cheer… and it just seems too slow to maintain the momentum and excitement of the moment… in fact, kind of kills it…

The two bits cheer was awesome in the 60's
Just before kickoff at my first Tech game, that was more noise than I’d ever heard. Not so much anymore. They could stop with the Go, Fight, Win.
The horse when they used to race around the field after every score. They had to end that tradition why? Because a ref and a SMU pom-pom girl didn’t know better than to run out in the street in front of bus. I say bring back the tradition and give lessons in remedial Darwinism to all visitors allowed on the field. Oh, and maybe a rider who knows how to stay in the saddle.
And TallMike, the name of the song the band plays is Grandioso.
