Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

"Our problem is we had chances to cut into stuff and we either made a bad play or a dumb play," Tech coach Pat Knight said. "… That’s just been the M.O. for three weeks."

This time the result was a 101-90 loss to Colorado, the Red Raiders’ seventh consecutive loss. It locks in Tech as the No. 9 team in the Big 12 Conference Tournament, with a rematch against Colorado scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Knight assumed all responsibility for the string of losses, but had no explanation for what’s gone wrong as Tech dropped from 4-5 in conference less than a month ago to its final record of 4-12.

"I’ve done a bad job for three weeks," Knight said. "I have got to figure out some way to turn it around. These kids have played hard, but it falls on me."

Lots of interesting things also on the StatSheet page for this game, including the incredible lack of defense: Colorado shot eFG% of 65% and had 48 free throw attempts.

Again, the only player that cared was Nick Okorie, who finished with 34 points on 11 of 16 from the floor. That's 7 losses in a row and this team finished with one more conference win than last year.

H.S.O (Hot Sports Opinion)

My H.S.O.: Faster than the fall of Tiger Woods on the discovery of his 16th illicit affair, Tech shall occupy the sub-basement of the Big 12 basketball basement dwellers – until such time as Gerald Myers elects to fire P.K. and hire someone of the nature of Billy Gillespie!

Tech has some talent, but the team is weal mentally, and despises the son of the General. In their 4 – 12 tailspin after being 12 – 2 and ranked #21 nationally, the Tech players quit on many occassion, ending the season on a 7 game skid, losing more than just Big 12 conference games, but rather losing their morals as they simply quit and turned their back on their coach (not that I can’t blame them).

This team needs a wholesale change – and firing P.K. is Step #1. Myers needs to hire Billy Gillespie – as we need a coach as skillful as he to begin climbing the steps out of the Big 12 dungeon – a place we will own unless things are not changed.
