Hance and Meyers need to Bring Tech nology to us

I was reading an article on Lake Travis QB Committs to Tech in the A-J Staff article last night, and in the comments a Longhorn fan was braggng about next year.  He attached a link to a website sponsored by CBS.Sports.  While I am looking at this, it makes me wonder what the heck our leadership Hance and Meyers do all day.  No disrespect to Seth and the DTN, but we should have and we demand more access to our sports.  Thanks SETH for all his hard work, otherwise we would be out in the cold.  The TT Athletic web site is old, tired, and out dated.  Not to mention the bias coverage from the A-J.  Its time that the mice in the funny farm come out of their cages and get to work.  Hance and Meyers, you want the spot light, so do your job and bring us to the modern era in sports.  Go Red Raiders.

I would like to easy your wonderings as to just what hance and myers do all day

unfortunately, Seth has asked that we refrain from things that are not fit for the women of the audience and for oldschoolraider. Therfore, lets just say they make nice with each other.

What do Hance and Myers do?

Well, Hance, ostensibly as Tech Chancellor, is a slimy politician whose means to an end is lying to obtain more power and control. Myers,as the A.D., has overseen the complete dismantling of the Tech atheltic program. That has included the precipitous decline of both the men’s and women’s basketball programs, as well as baseball. The improvement of Tech’s men’s and women’s track teams is pure dumb luck – with Tech being the fortunate beneficiary of one or two individuals who have excleed in their respective sports.

Remove the success of Tech’s football program over the past decade, and Tech ranks at the bottom of the Big 12 in success.

And that Tech alums, is what Hance and Myers have been doing: N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!!

by MerkMusic on Mar 7, 2010 1:20 PM CST reply actions

You're correct

The media information coming out of Tech is weak compared Texas and A&M. This site does the best job of all IMO and Seth among the members on here are where the best infomation comes from. I think sports information would get a whole lot better if we performed in other sports such as baseball and basketball. Basketball is just not even on the radar right now. I have hope that baseball can and will improve. If we can manage to succeed in other sports I do believe better media sources will follow but for now it’s a long journey before we see those days. Lastly, lets not forget Gerald Meyers hampers Tech’s chances of improving in anything until he heads to Raider Ranch. Hance needs to stay out of the athletics areana and spend his time politicking foe tier one efforts.

actually I blame leach!

leach never allowed interviews, and tried to keep the team away from the media as possible…he didnt even take crabtree or harrell to the big XII media day in 08.

Tubrtbille is doing the exact opposit, where he is trying to get the fans involved as much as possible ie. matador march, autographs after the spring game, never calls it “his” team. I believe we will see some more dramatic changes from what we were used to.

we have that samesetup with cbs sports, just go to the athetics website and click on the link…

by the way, dont think for a second I’m a 3 stooges supporter, because I’m not and never will be.

It's Leach's fault that the TTU website is outdated?

It is also leach's fault that

Broadway Ave is paved with bricks, blondes have more fun, the sun comes up in the east, and hotdogs come in packages of 10 and buns in packages of 12.

by TTU '04 on Mar 8, 2010 5:30 PM CST up reply actions

Actually, I would argue Nick Saban...

has one of the most restrictive media policies in College Football. He does not allow players of coaches other than himself to interview for the media, and controls all information being released. Not sure how Alabama’s website is, but I’m pretyy sure that in spite of these policies they still get plenty of coverage. This is not a Leach issue. This is more likely an issue with us being a mid-major program, in the middle of nowhere, without the dollars to spend on top notch marketing and IT.

You have a university full of people being highly trained for all fields of web design as well as communication. Make it somebody’s thesis project, or have a contest & choose the best design. Use that free labor already toiling away in your own backyard.

Agreed

THE TECH SPORTS WEB PAGE IS VERY POORLY MAINTAINED. It should be right on the nose for all things Texas Tech Sports. Instead, it may be 24 to 48 hours before updates are given. But, it seems most other schools have a similar problem. I am not sure who is assigned to keeping the web pages up to date, but I think it was mentioned here that it is farmed out to some source that maintains the sites for several schools. I think it should be Tech’s own responsibility to maintain the web page, not some outside entity.

with respect, I DISAGREE WITH YOUR ANANLYSIS

however, decorum prevents me from going further except to say that the Head Football Coach, whether it be Captain Leach or John Fitzgerald Katfish, might have a say in content relative to his particular sport; neither are in charge or should be in charge of the process, website, advertising, blah, blah, blah. We at Texas Tech University have several thousand "associate "atheletic directors in charge of one thing or another, but ultimately it all falls on Dumbass Myers’ shoulders. I doubt if he can even operate a computer to get emails, much less critique a website.
hance on the other hand, needs to stay out of the atheletic department entirely and just keep stealing from the uninformed masses.

Most schools use the CBS folks (see the home page and click on All Access (http://www.texastech.com/) for their home page.

I do think that there are schools that do a better job of putting out information, but Texas Tech isn’t bad, its just that a most people, me included, don’t go there to get my information and you don’t want to go there for an opinion, which is why blogs and message boards are more popular.

And TT’s baseball coverage is usually the best covered sport, hand-down. On most games, there’s quotes, stats, notes, and sometimes video coverage.

Was it here on DTN

That it was mentioned some outside group actually controls the websites for Tech and several other universities, including some in the Big-12? If so, how do we try to “encourage” them to improve the release of information on a daily basis, better yet, twice a day? Someone is and should be held accountable for that responsibility.

I'm not sure who

controls the information. I know that they signed the deal with Learfield Sports to do marketing, but I think that the information is more local.

I think the problem with schools, and this isn’t just related to TT, but it’s the idea that you should give a crap load of content and not make fans pay for it. If there’s a game that can be shown online, then show it. The problem with the AD’s office is the TAMU game, where there was a decision to either try and force a sell-out or show the game online and risk not getting a sellout.

To answer your question, TT has a few guys and gals in the Sports Information Department. They do have a “sports-writing” arm which is the Official Sports Report (http://officialsportsreport.com/teampage.asp?id=243&tid=76), but again, there’s normal content and then there’s premium content. I don’t think it’s all that original and I think you can get the same thing from DTN and all of the other places I/we pick up information, but then again, I’m biased.

I think that because TT is a little behind the times, it creates opportunities for websites like DTN.

And I just read one of the top selling points for the OSR:

Every day, Official Sports Report readers receive official news and editorial that’s officially approved and endorsed by each University, developed exclusively for OSR by our own trusted journalists and respected reporters.

For reals? You mean that the OSR will only disperse information that’s officially approved and endorsed by the university? Well, that sounds like a heck of a deal.

While Myers has, ostensibly, control over information through a reporting structure, the frustration is more accurately pointed to the Texas Tech Sports Information Director’s office. Each sport has an SID aide assigned to the news and events of a particular sport. Not defending Myers, but he’s not the one who puts stuff out. The SID is.

When I compare the two CBS sites for TTU and UT

the differences are clear…starting with quality of image. I immediately thought of the package I get with satelite providers…it looks as if UT paid for the Gold package and we paid for the Bronze—w/o maintenance.

All in all, DTN remains, IMHO, the best place to simply get good information and enjoy sharing thoughts with fans.

Agree, and while

one can come up with all sorts of reasons (excuses) for this and all things relating to the Texas Tech Athletic Department, it all comes down to the leadership placing correct demands on all facets. Whether is is the performance of the basketball teams, the contracts for the uniforms, or media outlets and sports stuff marketing, It all falls untimately on myers’ shoulders. He should be considered an abject failure on all counts. If he were doing his job (as General Manager of the Sports), the hance would not get involved and the birds would sing and the flowers would bloom and the wind would not blow. I would therefore submit that the president of OUR university is failing at his job as well. Then if the president and ad are both failing then the chancellor is also failing. REPLACE THEM ALL………….NOW.
