Around SBN: Odds On Peyton Manning's Next Home Includes Three Teams

I have to believe that there is strength in numbers!!!

I got the call a few nights back, you know which one; "Hello, Mr. Murray this is (insert students name) from Texas Tech." He was a very nice kid, he followed his script perfectly and had just the right amount of "everything at Tech is great" tone in his voice. We chit chatted for several minutes, when he told me he was not in the College of Ag. (Mass Comm.)I tried to get him to switch majors.

And then came the big moment, you know what I'm talking about, "Mr. Murray, can we count on your support in the amount of $$$$ this year?" and he was still doing a very good job. So...I said, well, I'd like to but I have to ask if Mr. Hance, Mr. Bailey, and Mr. Myers are still employed at Tech. He responded with a little more than a slight chuckle, "Yes they are." So, I told him that as long as the they were employees at Tech, the University would not see any of my money.

He then told me that HE'D HEARD THE SAME THING FROM MOST PEOPLE HE'D TALKED TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!! I can only hope and pray that this information will turn a light bulb on in someone's head that change must happen. He told me that he did a report on each call and that he would definitely note my concern. Then I told him to change it from Mr. Hance, Mr. Bailey, Nd Mr. Myers to the three stooges. He really got a kick out of that.

Who knows if he does a report, let alone putting anything down other than he talked to me and I declined. I FELT BETTER!!!! No, actually I felt ENCOURAGED. I will never get over the pathetic and incompetent way they handled the entire Mike Leach debacle. I'd better stop now because I'm beginning to hear Battle Hymn of the Republic in the back of my head.....

STRIVE FOR HONOR, EVERMORE!!!!!!!

I did the same thing last night.

Actually the kid was very cool about it and laughed. He told me over half the repsonses were just like mine.

For the record, I am holding my donations to the School of Business until such time that the bellboys are gone.

I just wish

There was another way. This really is cutting off the nose to spite the face but totally agree it gets the message across.

"I find I'm so excited. I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitment only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope." Red-Shawshank Redemption

Same here

Received the call as well and basically said my contributions will go through the Red Raider Club in support of texas tech athletics. I will no longer donate to the Alumni Assoc. fund as long as the liars are in office. In response the young lady said “well said and thanks for your support”. I guess she agrees. Sad that it has come to this but I see no other way to send a message.

It really felt good in small way having a fraction of impact.

My support to you all

As the persons mentioned must be relieved of their duties in order for Texas Tech to achieve any form of positive recognition. Their actions are without question, the worst I have ever heard of coming from the highest ranked individuals in any university. Tech has been stained deeply because of their greed and deceit. Even if they had been the best leaders ever at Tech (which they were not) I would call for their release. I want my school’s pride back. Get rid of the 3 stooges.

2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.

To think I was offered that job this semester....

I knew better than to get paid minimum wage to get cussed at all day. I agree with you guys, its the only way to make them see.

I actually agree with this type of protest...

as it seems to provide a voice in the face of the gross mismanagement of the Texas Tech brand. My question however is: If we request these complaints be documented as reason for our unwilingness to donate this year, who reads these protests? If these notes just get sent to the desk of the “three stooges”, are they going to fire themselves?

Imagine a sexual harrasment complaint being sent only to the employer who committed the harrassment. Is that case ever going to make it to court?

I also like this line of protest...

because it taps into all of our discontent with the administration, but leaves room for us to also support, and be excited for the team and the new staff.

Bravo!

It’s good to hear some of those stats.

“Most” or “half” – even if they’re inflated get the point across and will account for lot’s of money and support that will, most likely, resume once the three stooges are booted from the Bell Tower.

My Vote

The only vote I have regarding the three stooges is with my $$. Last year I sent over $4400 to Tech in the form of season tickets purchase, Alumni Association donations, Red Raider Club, School of Business donation, ect. I have notified all of the above to remove my name from their list until such time I feel like our leadership is once more looking out for the best interest of my beloved Texas Tech. I have been told by those I notified they were hearing from many expressing my views.

Good Job!

I did the same to the Alumni Association the day after the Alamo Bowl. I will continue to do the same for everyone that calls until Hance, Bailey and Myers are gone. Keep it up. We may make a difference after all.

Thanks to withdrawal of funds. . .

Students now take tests on papyrus leaves instead of scantrons.

Good!

That means people’s handwriting will, once again, become legible.

what happened to "blue books"?

And we had to buy our own blue books anyway

The university is never shy about offloading expenses directly onto the students.

Thank God im an Engineer!

havent had to buy a blue book or scantron since Freshman year!

Besides the almighty engineers, the rest of us lowlifes have to buy our own scantrons.

We dont have the benefit of multiple choice exams....

I would much rather pay my quarter and have some guesses available when I need them.

You don't get it

taraebeth – our adm. cost Tech mega bucks (Leach settlement, lost revenue from donations, potential lost revenue from game attedance, etc.) by letting egos make decisions. How can I trust their management of my $$ I place in their care? I will continue to support Tech by directly assisting Tech students I know, then I will feel confident my $$ is properly managed. Until the adm changes, no more checks made directly to Tech!!

by Noel71 on Mar 10, 2010 7:44 AM CST reply actions

I wholeheartedly agree

I was making a bad joke. My parents have pulled their funds from the alumni, but unfortunately still have to pay my tuition! I am glad to see ya’ll making a statement.

"by directly assisting Tech students"

You need my address so you can send a check?

by RdrPwr on Mar 10, 2010 6:27 PM CST up reply actions

I think y'all are missing the whole point....

It’s great if all this fund withholding drives the Bell Tower Boys out, but that really isn’t the point. The point, and Blackbeard correct me if I’m wrong, is if we squeeze the finances of the university long enough………..THEY WILL HAVE TO ALLOW BEER SALES AT THE JONES TO REPLACE THE REVENUE!

Really

Holding the best interests of our academic instution based on atheletics seems a bit overboard. How about the drive to Tier I, that is more important than anything in the history or TTU

Good point

You are right. Getting Tier 1 status is a monumental achievement for TTU, but I think the revenue from athletics does help other academic programs in different ways. I could be incorrect in assuming this, so please correct me if necessary.

by taraebeth on Mar 10, 2010 12:41 PM CST up reply actions

I seriously appreciate what you are saying. I too want only the best for my University. A University

that gave me the tools to establish my place in life. A Universtiy that has helped me succeed beyond my wildest dreams in the business world. That is why I am very very concerned with those weilding the power at MY Universtiy. I see no better alternative than to withhold funds until such time that the bellboys leave (in disgrace and not with a gold watch).

If someone could tell me a better alternative to get them out, I would surely listen.

Gus, trust me saying that there are better people for that job and will take Tech to the next level of establishing Tier 1 status with ethics and dignity. The hold out of donations may make it tougher and delay the process but I would rather we get there under new leadership that makes decisions based on what the majority of supporters and alumni believe.

Wow.... Thought we were better than that

While I completely understand the frustration of football fans about the whole Leach fiasco (I too was unhappy), I think consideration needs to be made about WHERE your money will be donated

If you dont want to donate $100 to the Red Raider Club or TTU Alumni Association, you can still make a donation to the school and specify where you want your money to be used.

That way you can make your point that you won’t be donating because you are furious with our admins in charge, but still help with much needed funds for kids that need scholarships to attend our school.

You can still be frustrated and tell the institution to go fly a kite all day long, but don’t neglect the kids that want to attend Tech and need the scholarship money to make it happen. That’s where we get hurt.

by RedRaider99 on Mar 12, 2010 5:08 PM CST reply actions

No one cares if the football program is adequately funded...

If you only withhold money from the football team, the Belltower Boys will stay employed at Texas Tech. What TPTB need to see is that this fiasco goes beyond football. Unless it does, we’ll never be rid of Hance, Myers, Bailey, and the clowns on the BOR.

Anytime I see you post TPTB

it always takes me a minute to figure out what you are talking about. Then I remember, oh yeah, it’s stands for “The Pony That Barks.” I agree, we need to get rid of all barking ponies. They are dangerous.

And the powers that be will agree with that…
