Texas Tech 2010 Undrafted Free Agents

From what I could find, here are the 2010 undrafted Texas Tech players:

Marlon Winn, OT, Signed with the Vikings

Brandon Carter, OG, Signed with the Saints

Daniel Howard, Listed as DE/LB, Signed with the Browns

On a side note- With the addition of S. Bradford to the Rams, hopefully Danny Amendola can emerge as Bradford's go to guy (Just as Brady to Welker)

List of 2 0 1 0 Undrafted Free Agents

I keep forgetting about that guy! Accidentially caught him on highlights last year or wouldve never known. Damm DirecTv Sunday Ticket keeps getting more and more interesting, 49ers, Pats, and now the Rams eventually the NFL will totally suck me in!

Sharpe

IMO Shape was the best athlete Tech had showcased. I’m happy for Wall but I would have never thought he would go. NFL teams are a whole different animal when selecting players at the pro level. I still tend to think that NFL scouts aren’t to savvy and lack what some college recruiters have. Just because they’re pro scouts doesn’t mean they know how to find talent.

tend to agree, i just don't understand

how someone llike Pike can get drafted and Harrell not.

exactly

I think it was the perception of Tech at the time having a “gimicky” offense that most thought anybody could succeed in at the QB position. I don’t agree with that notion as we proved we couldn’t do it under just any QB in 2009.

I actually

do think most any decent QB would have great numbers in this system. That’s blasphemy here, I realize, but I also think Leach wasn’t THAT good an evaluator to get so many QBs who put up retarded numbers every year.

It does take a decent QB (not a great one, as we’ve seen with some of them), but it’s more the system than the man, I think…same at OU for the most part (see Hyble and Hypel, exhibits A and B). You throw 55 short passes in a game, you freaking BETTER have a decent completion percentage and lots of yards after catches.

Doesn’t mean Harrell wasn’t good, but in two years he’s had exactly zero action from 32 teams. We’re all smarter than those guys who make the call? Really??

by Tech92 on Apr 29, 2010 2:48 PM CDT up reply actions

I think the difference with Harrell was ability to play smart. This was a very intelligent QB who had great reads and displayed some of the best accuracy I’ve ever seen at Tech. I hear your point about being overlooked by 32 teams but the media didn’t help this guy when they talked about the system offense. I agree with you that it doesn’t take a great QB to run this offense but it does take a good one and a leader. No doubt the landscape is very small in the NFL compared to college when it comes to opportunity to play but if a QB from Sam Houston and West Texas A&M gets drafted that year I have no problem saying Harrell got over looked. I hope we lose some of the stigma of a “Fun & Shoot” or “system” offense that may hurt a players chances of getting noticed. Again, just my opinion.

I am certain the "system" jargon oes away quickly

we all know it takes so much more talent to hand a ball to someone than it does to systematically throw it to someone.

McCoy

Is basically the same “system” most pases within 15 yards, he did have some great running ability but not good enough to be considered atheletic in the NFL.

Me, too

I have felt that the NFL tends to overlook many players simply because they do not fit their idea of the perfect NFL type. Untold numbers of players overlooked by the NFL could have made more of an impact than a like number that was drafted or signed as free agents (Art Schlister; Ryan Leaf…many more). Can anyone tell me how TROY! had 3 players drafted to Tech’s ONE!?!

OK, I’m done. Your turn, TTUMAR.

The same thing was true of the Odessa Permian teams when they were in their heyday.....

very few of their players went on to D1. wierd.

Kids were part of the same system since 7th grade in Odessa

They weren’t broken up, bus’ed around, and split up like all the kids are in High School in Lubbock. It’s no wonder we (Lubbock) were more talented than our Odessa counterparts, but they ripped us a new one every time. It’s a lesson in buying into and being part of a system, and it’s a lesson that Texas Tech has taught to countless others.
I think it’s just a shame that we didn’t have more drafted because it has implications for recruiting, like it or not, down the road. Of course, all of our athletes were snatched up withing 48 hours of the draft because they are talented, but I would have liked to have seen them selected in prime time.
Bravo to the NFL for their new draft format.

Awesome! That’s going to be two undrafted free agents from Tech on the 53-man roster for the best team in the NFC.

Can we say the best team in the NFL?

I mean…. they did win the super bowl and all. Who Dat?

Who is Sharpe competing with down there? What are he and Carter’s chances of making the roster?

Too many variables

But we can all hope for the best case scenario.

They are probably two of the players on TTU’s team that I had confidence in making a roster. Carter’s going to have a fair bit of competition to make the 2-deep as a rookie, but if he can show that he can hold his own, he’s got as good a shot as any, plus he’s a UDFA, so he’s cheap.

Sharpe is sorta made for the 3-4 as a pass-rush LB with the 4.7 40 he ran. I think he’s got a better shot at making the roster than Carter, though it depends on how he can do on the special teams units (I’d guess he’d be somewhere on the line for punts, probably a 2nd line guy on kickoff return and he may be quick enough to barrel down the field on kickoffs)

My bad. Honestly, I forgot they won it. I’m glad they did.

It's been a "Dogs Sleeping With Cats - Mass Hysteria" couple of years in the NFL

First the Arizona Cardinals play in a Super Bowl, then the New Orleans Saints win one. No wonder so many here are convinced that Tommy the T will give Tech a national title. If we played in the NFL it would be a done deal.

saw some super bowl odds yesterday

Surprisingly they had New Orleans’ odds at 12-1 which wasn’t even in the top 10

Jamar Wall Stuggles during first Cowboy's Rookie MiniCamp

Followed the ESPN Dallas Live Chat, Wall was burned many times by Dez Bryant and the other rookie WRs, didn’t have much to say bout him ’cept he was stuggling
