S. Mandel hates Mike Gundy

I'm sure some of you guys may have already read this from Stewart Mandel's mailbag on si.com today, but it struck me as unusual. Below is a question posed by a reader regarding the lack of pre-season hype for Okie State and his reply. Kind of comical, really...

Why is no one talking about Oklahoma State? The Cowboys have Brandon Weeden at QB, who played pro baseball and has a cannon for an arm. He reminds me a lot of Chris Weinke at Florida State. Then you have new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorson, who learned his craft from Mike Leach. Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) is gone, Colt McCoy (Texas) is gone and Tech has a new coach. Why can't the Cowboys win the Big 12 South?

Four reasons:

1. Mike Gundy is still their head coach.

2. They lost to OU and Texas last year by a combined score of 68-14.

3. They lost nearly their entire starting offensive line, linebacking corps and secondary.

4. Mike Gundy is still their head coach.

I know a lot of posters on this board have a Tech-Is-Never-Respected attitude when it comes to the national media, but I don't think I've ever seen something like this about a coach. I don't disagree with Mandel's sentiment, at all. Do you?

Yeah this is pretty biased. Points 2 and 3 are valid but 1 and 4 (while valid) are not things a writer should say. I would be pissed if this was Tech.

reminds me of last season where okie state was to win the big 12 conf…. they didnt even came close but yes im scared of their new offensive coordinator hate the fact we lost what made texas tech fly. the mike leach air raid.

valid points except for 1 & 4

Frankly, I can’t understand why anyone would have high expectations for OSU. They lost a lot of players and are now installing a new offense and they don’t have the players they need to run it.
It can work at OSU and they won’t lack for resources. But it’ll take a couple of years.
