Recruiting on the High Plains :: DB Freddie Warner
As far as catching up is concerned, Warner is the last one to get to 14 commits thus far for Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville. Let's get to it.
The Measurables:
Freddie Warner
Position: DB
DTN Profile
Video: Clip 1
Rivals Profile N/A
Scout Profile
ESPN Profile 45
Ht: 5'9"
Wt: 170 lbs
Forty: 4.5
High School: L.G. Pinkston (Dallas, TX)
The Player Speaks: As always, if I find actual quotes from Warner, I'll update this profile. For now, just know that as a junior last year, Warner had a pretty nice stat line: 61 rushes for 393 yards and 6 touchdowns; 22 receptions for 365 yards and 4 touchdowns; and he also scored 13 touchdowns overall. The other three touchdowns most likely came from special teams or picking off a pass. Warner was named first team all 4A-11 District on offense, defense, special teams player of the year and utility player of the year.
Video:
Scouting Report: A very interesting and versatile prospect. Just by watching his video, you can tell that he's small, which is fine. He seems to be playing more safety than cornerback on defense and he's not afraid to make a hit, but I'd really would have liked to have seen his coverage skills. The interception he made at the 1:35 mark is a pretty impressive jump on the ball and the punt return at the 2:10 mark is probably what got coaches around his district noticing his special teams play. Warner doesn't seem like he'll have a chance at safety at the collegiate level, but that's alright. In terms of versatility, he's got some nice moves as a receiver, running back, kick returner and punt returner. Maybe the comparison will be Benjamin McRoy, although I tend to think that McRoy is more explosive (just judging by their high school film). That doesn't mean that Warner is a slouch, and if Tubs is looking to recruit players that are fast, then Warner fits the bill. As an aside, although none of the recruiting services have a 40-time on Warner, I did find one linky where it states he runs a 4.5. One other note, defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson recruited Warner, which means that he sees something in Warner that he really likes.
Freddie, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
The 2011 Class: I'm finally caught up. Rejoice.

Love how he moves in open space
Freddie has that special knack to turn anything into a TD. I love how he uses his hands to swat people’s arms away and stiff-arms. His initial cut is also impressive as he hits the hole. He will no doubt compete for CB and ST returns – hands are great. GUNS UP!
I don’t see how a guy that has so many accolades (offense, defense, special teams, and utility player) could not garner some kind of ranking from Rivals/Scout. I know they still have to evaluate some kids before they can rank them, but it seems like he should be getting some kind of attention for that level of output.
Rivals/Scout will dock him b/c of his lack of height
if he says he’s 5’9, he’s probably 5’7
Better hope Bill Snyder never sees film on this kid, he looks like the reincarnation of David Allen

Welker, Thomas, Amendola, Morris, and the landscape
are all proof that height doesn’t matter in Lubbock

Lubbock has trees as tall as you want
As long as you don’t want them more than 10 feet high.

You have it wrong
Catfish Jesus will not lose any head to head recruiting battles with Bill Snyder. Of course, you can hope since we own the Aggies.
ut is "The Evil Empire"
and btw
you never answered my question…
Will you continue to say “52-30” 71 years from now just as Ags have continued to say that the NC they won 71 years ago means something?
52-30 was an anomaly; 11-4 is hardly that.

ask any of your players if they know the score of a game 15 years ago
now ask them if they know the score of the game last year
which answer do you think they’ll be able to give you?
Ask anyone around the nation...
what they think of Aggie “traditions” while we’re at it.
Then see a) if any of them can name a single one or b) see if the only thing they can say about them is the bon fire colapse….
by TheScarletandTheBlack on Jun 25, 2010 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions
Didn't mean to sound like a prick with B...
but the point is, Ags need to come out of their own little world of only seeing things in a light that favors them.
The fact is that your team has been beat 11 out of the last 15 times by Tech. Now what means more here to a recruit? One year Tech did not show up ready to play, or the fact that Tech has man handled A&M ever since they (the recruit) were 3 years old?
by TheScarletandTheBlack on Jun 25, 2010 2:06 PM CDT up reply actions
That doesn't answer my question...
What’s more important to incoming recruits: 11-4 or 52-30?
by TheScarletandTheBlack on Jun 27, 2010 11:44 AM CDT up reply actions
Or...
how about that the fact that A&M last finished in the polls 10 years ago while Tech has done it 5 out of the last 6.
by TheScarletandTheBlack on Jun 27, 2010 11:55 AM CDT up reply actions
seriously?
52-30
I haven’t met many recruits who remember what a football program did when they were 3.
Take off the homer glasses...
and see that we’re talking about SINCE they were three, and not JUST when they were three. We’re arguing one year (your case) vs 15 years (my case).
Get over yourself Aggie fan, and look at the facts. Tech’s been on national TV damn near 3 times more often than A&M in the past three years. Why don’t you go ask some kid in Florida who they would chose between the two schools? Then maybe you’ll see that outside CS, no one cares about your team.

Then how in the name of all things holy do you plug "tradition" so much?

52-30 is easily explained
1. 18-22 year old college students at Texas Tech haven’t experienced a lifetime of Aggie hatred
2. Texas Tech beats Kansas State 66-14
3. One week later Kansas State beats Texas A&M 62-14
4. Texas Tech players look across the field before the kickoff & see the SMU Mustangs & play accordingly
I would hope that Leach after the game & now Tubs heading into next season makes it clear that no matter what you players may think, you can never take Texas A&M lightly. I expect to see a better effort this fall in College Station.

I expect us to break 60 on y'all this Fall
new defensive coordinator + talent that doesn’t fit his scheme = multiple beatdowns
Tubs and Willis are not Ruffin and Leach
Everyone knows that the achilies heel of Tech during the Leach era was stopping the run, and they failed miserably on October 24th, 2009.
I don’t see A&M going 5 wide on third and medium and picking up 15 yards a play with the draw all night long. This is really what killed Tech last year was A&M’s ability to convert 3rd downs so effectively. Truth is, Ruff got out schemed and out coached that night, and I just don’t see that happening next year.
by TheScarletandTheBlack on Jun 25, 2010 2:19 PM CDT up reply actions
we'll see how Willis does his first season in the Big 12
I think it will be a rude awakening for him.
Ruffin did get outschemed, that is true, he had no idea how to react when he went empty set, and would leave one LB in the middle, or no one in the middle, so Jerrod just tucked it and ran. However, we did more damage off-tackle and on inside zone b/c our OGs were dominating your DTs. Those two OGs are returning, and y’all are still keeping Whitlock in the middle; that isn’t going to end well for Tech.
Your predictions are horrific.
Off game and on game? People taking plays off? Why is it that we were able to beat OU and you weren’t? I suppose it was the OG’s dominating the DT’s of OU?
Probably not.

well, it helped that OU completely quit in that game
also, you played them at home while we played them on the road; that isn’t the determining factor, but it does help, especially in Tech’s case
when was the last time Tech beat OU in Norman? I’m curious.
So...
you’re saying that OU quit against Tech, but you won’t say that Tech never showed up against A&M??? You make about as much sense as teets on a boar hog….

I don't believe that Tech has beat OU in Norman.
For the record, Tech quit against A&M. They aren’t that good. If you wish to continue with the “52-30” bit to help you sleep at night, go right ahead.
That particular outcome vs. the last 10+ years is irrelevant. Don’t you think? If we’re looking at this the same way, then you need to explain the Kansas game for aggie. Because your stance on this makes absolutely no damn sense.

Not that he’ll actually read this with the homer glasses off (or atleast he hasn’t read a thing I’ve typed without those girly, rose colored glassses on…).

Won't help much against our 80
Aggies do love their football team. It makes them all delusional.

Rivals hasn’t rated him yet. That was a 5 star viewer rating.

y'all remember OU's Quentin Griffin?
If Warner gets his weight up to 180-190, he could be a hellacious running back; the low center of gravity makes it a pain to tackle those guys.
