Twitter / Rutgers Scoop: Apparently Tony Trahan to Texas Tech
Doing my morning Twitter search, I noticed this tween from a fellow SBN Rutgers blog, On The Banks. Trahan appears to be a Rutgers walk-on and tight end. Help me dig up some stuff on Trahan.

Couple of quick shots in video

Looks like this was the only game he played in last year so it looks like high school video would be the only other option.
Is it just me...
Or does this picture make him look a little like Nancy James?

Sounds like he had talent
As a walk-on, he was able to push past two other scholarship freshmen.
To sum up a few thoughts on the few articles I've read.
Tony Trahan was a new TE, having less than a year of film, but out of high school he was 6-4, 230, running in the low 4.7, and was considered one of the, if not the best returning TE at Rutgers (of an admittedly thin corp). He had offers from several SEC schools, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss, but waited far too long, and his spots filled up, and his offers were revoked, which is when he decided to walk on.
Is another article, and there is no further word or explanation why he is transferring. My guess is he wont’ be available until 2012, unless he has family issues which is causing him to need to transfer closer to home (Coppell native), which is something we’d never want, but having him for the 2011 season would be phenomenal! If not, he’d still have 2 years of eligiibility left, and honestly, him and Jace Amaro would make that a dangerous and legitimate receiving threat, with 2 guys, presumably as fast or faster in the flats then several of our recent receivers.
Useless information:
He is a fan of The Office and The I Am Second movement, ala facebook,
According to ESPN, he actually grew from 6-4 to 6-6 by his freshman year of college and is down to a svelte 225 (not like schools have ever been known to lie about heights…!), which leads me to believe his speed might be more than 4.7 now a days
I read he was also a QB in highschool....

Thats right!
We can list many QB’s turned receivers that turn out successful, besides the obvious in Crabtree. IE, Ryan Tannenhill,
And
Zouzalik, Cornelius Douglas and there’s someone else I’m forgetting.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
Eric Morris
Although I watched him play many times in Jr. High and High School (my school was in the same district), and I always thought he was a better receiver than QB.

If Trahan walked-on
at Rutgers, and assuming that he’s not on scholarship, then does he still have to sit out a year?

Barring something like a transfer of necessity due to family etc, he probably will have to sit out a year, but he still has a redshirt available, which means he’ll have 3 years to play at Tech.
He could play this year under an exception IF he wasn’t recruited by Rutgers and did not receive any form of athletic scholarship. He is “recruited” if a college coach called him more than once, contacted him off campus, paid his expenses to visit the campus, or issued him a National Letter of Intent or a written offer of financial aid. In any case, I suspect that it might take a bit of time to go through the NCAA clearinghouse for approval. In other words, he might not be rubber stamped by SMU.
Not much to go on here
However, he appears to me to be a Jay Novichek-type TE. It does look like he has good height. I could envision him doing for Tech what Jay did for the Cowboys. His height over the middle could make defenses a whole lot more nervous, especially when they have to respect all the other Tech receivers. If he can play this year it would really kick the talent level yup a notch, if he can be active enough to receive about 20 to 30 passes. That would mean someone somewhere is going to be getting open downfield a bit more. I really like this “catch”. It could work out well and provide some unexpected excitement from a workhorse slot, as well as keep Jane off the field.
TTpilk Psalm 117:
1 ΒΆ O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.
2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.
Trahan played in a few early games last year as a freshman
and less as the season went on. I don’t know what to read into that because Rutgers was very young and thin at TE last year. He just didn’t see the field enough to form much of an opinion on him.
Even though he was a walk-on I think he does have to sit out a year.
