Tackles Made VS SMU

Perhaps I owe linebacker Bird an apology--if so, Bront, you got it.

5 Solo tackles:  Mitchem,  Phillips, Davis, Bird

4 Solo tackles:  Ford, Duncan, Fehoko

3 Solo tackles:  DJ Johnson, Howard

The other linebacker that played, Sonier, had 2

The tackle distribution kind of looks right given that the secondary and linebackers made the plays...SMU was about 50/50ish on run/pass.

I am almost laughing at some of the post game talk, Coach Tuberville mentioned that the running game defense suffered more from not being lined up right--smacks of Coach Setincech(sp)--more than being beat physically...there is some good news in that to off-set the simple fact that some people do not know where to stand when the ball is hiked.

I noticed so many SOLO tackles in this game....

like you are saying. It was really nice to see guys throwing their bodies at ball carriers, and wrapping up. Never saw that kind of defensive fundamental coaching during Leach tenure.

Funny thing is I thought the secondary was going to be weak and the line be strong espcially against the SMU offense but was exactly the opposite. Those boys in the secondary were spot on, the stong guys upfront got muscled around a bit

In 2 years the secondary will be scary

considering the oldest player is a Sophomore. We might average 4 INTs per game.

Indeed

If they can all stay with the program, and the Big 12 stays a passing league, we’re set for atleast a few years.

I saw the begining of what could be an intimidating defense…although there were some solid tackles, there was alot of hesitation from some players. I’m glad to see Bront Bird point it out; hopefully they’re already addressing it. I recall a few plays that seemed like they should result in an absoulte trainwreck of a hit from a tech defender, but instead of running through the ballcarrier you see that slight shuffle before they engage. Also noticed that play when Padron threw high and one db didnt lay the guy out, smh.

Still, its great to see a gameplan on the defensive side of the ball. The young dbs are very promising, they’re gonna make mistakes, but the experience they get now is gonna make use even scarier in the next few years…

The football team should play rugby in the offseason.

After you’re on the rugby pitch without pads you feel like taking on a train with pads would be nothing.

The defense is too complex

Thinking too much. Need to have it fixed by the Texas Game. I agree that the secondary was a pleasant surprise.

I congratulated

Daniel Cobb’s parents on a good game played by the secondary unit as a whole. I met them in the elevator at the Holiday Inn on Ave Q. I noticed her cobb #42 on the sleeve of her red tshirt and asked, “Daniel Cobb?” Daniel played but not much and didnt accumulate any stats….but they played llights out.
