Recruiting on the High Plains | DT Dennell Wesley

This is the definition of an unknown player. I've dug up some stuff on Wesley, but Wesley's commitment is a tough one to really discuss intelligently because so little is known about him. Nevertheless, this is the 22nd commitment for Texas Tech and National Signing Day gets closer and closer (2nd Tuesday in the month of February and this year is February 2nd).
One more thing to keep in mind, I'm hoping that we get some confirmation of the players who have enrolled at Texas Tech early as I believe that they will count against the 2010 recruiting class. So my statement above, that this is the 22nd commitment for the 2011 class is technically accurate, commits that I believe have already shown up on campus, QB Michael Brewer, WR Derek Edwards, WR Marcus Kennard, RB/ATH Ronnie Daniels, and possibly LB Blake Dees, will count against the 2010 class, which had 28 commits, but 7 of those 28 never made it on campus.
And if anyone can find any additional links or notes on Wesley, please leave a comment.

There's so much more after the jump, including premium, but free for this time only, content and super-exclusive video of Wesley making football plays. More, after the jump.
The Player Speaks: I'll just consider this my link dump. As you'll note, Wesley isn't rated at all by any of the recruiting services and that most likely means that I'll be busy finding some information on a player. First, Wesley attended Pedro Menendez High School in St. Augustine, Florida. What I did find is that Wesley apparently originally committed to Bethune Cookman in 2009. And as you might guess, Wesley's 2009 ESPN recruiting profile also doesn't have a grade for him. I'm guessing that this didn't work out as Wesley landed at Butler County C.C. Last year at Butler, Wesley had 52 tackles (24 solo), 8 TFL, 3 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. This was enough to earn Wesley first team for the 2010 All-Jayhawk Conference (PDF).
Video: Again, I came up short here, but I did find a couple of highlight videos for the 2010 Butler County C.C. football team. You can look for #99 on the defensive side of the ball. If you have limited time, I'd just take a look at the second video, which are all defensive plays for Butler.
Scouting Report: I'm basing my incredibly expert opinion based largely on the second video and from what I can tell, Wesley played the nose guard position and routinely took on double-teams for Butler. You can find #99 quite a few times and there were a couple of things that I noticed. First, this is a Butler highlight film, but anytime that I noticed #99, he was going full speed and generally getting a pretty good push on the offensive linemen he was facing. Second, he's actually got pretty good speed and he does a good job of getting up and down the line of scrimmage. Wesley doesn't appear to get too upright as he's rushing.
Dennell, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!

I'll take it!
Let’s see what this guy is capable during the spring game.
It’s looking more and more like a 4-2-5 shift, especially with the players coming in.

I am trying hard to simply not have an opinion about Wesley.
I am fighting the urge to think about Perry and Wade, who came in with some acclaim but have not done anything substantial on the field.
Wesley is not either of those two guys so he rates his own assessment.
This is an interesting recruiting season, we are going to finish pretty good, it is more in the vein of how good. We are contintuing to work the field looking and hosting and offering. Signing day results are going to be fun and then reporting day is going to be fun.
Then there is the small item of getting a new DC integrated into the scheme of things and what will be that direction.
I have not heard much at all about a replacement for Robinson, or did I miss the news…
as for me and my house, we chose the Lord.
The thing about these three is that they play....
Smith was on a fast track to post season honors.
Langley and Rumph came in and took what ever pt was being considered for Wade and Perry…..

Marcus Kennard
Kennard also went to butler cc. Do you think he had any part in the recruitment of Wesley?
Also, on a similar topic, does anyone know what sort of systems our defensive recruits ran in high school? Are most if them 4-3 guys, or 3-4? It’d be interesting to know how many are used to tech d’s system ( assuming its going to stay the same next year).

I would guess that when the staff was looking at film on Kennard, they noticed a pretty fast 300 pound lineman that could be worth a scholarship. Re. the type of defenses that the recruits run, that’s something that I really don’t pay attention to, but maybe I should. I would think that most high school teams run a fairly standard 4-3 defense. That’s just a guess.

I have notheard anything about coaches either. I guess I just need to trust the boss but I sure am hoping to get some good news soon. And, I wouldn’t mind if a few more of those recruits who came to visit go ahead and commit. Can’t wait!
I no sooner posted my comment about Robinson when it dawned on me
that an assistant coach would not be considered until after the DC is settled. That is the logical way to do it given the process/sequence in which last season’s staff was hired.
Duh !

Question
Is it not impossible for the 2nd tuesday of the month to fall on the 2nd of Feb? Wouldnt the 2nd Tuesday of ANY month be at least the 8th? In this case it would be the 9th.
