3 star Freddie Warner decommits for UNT
Dallas Pinkston cornerback Freddie Warner, a first-team all-district selection said early this afternoon that he has committed to UNT.
Warner is ranked No. 51 on The Dallas Morning News' Area Top 100 list.
Warner was committed to Texas Tech, but said the school quit talking to him after the coach who was recruiting him left the staff. He took that to mean that his scholarship had been pulled.
UNT moved in and landed one of the highest rated players so far in its class. Warner was recruited by Justin Gaines. He had offers form Colorado State, UTSA and UTEP before he committed to Texas Tech
For those who remember Dan McCarney at ISU, he is now the HC at UNT. McCarney was know in recruiting circles to be a guy the focused heavily locally in area and in Texas.

Ummm...wouldn't we reassign recruits to another coach after one leaves?
Can’t believe we would lose a recruit because he fell through the cracks as a result of a coaching change. Not okay.

There must be more to this story
Just saying. I think our HC is professional and organized. They would not this happen by lack of organization. There is more, must be. There is going to be a lot of shuffling in the next week. I hope we can keep our fours and maybe pick up a few more good players.
HC is a little preoccupied at the moment

LSB: "Oh shit, JD. You crazy!"
+1 maybe he wouldn’t have qualified or they found someone better.

I think that those of you that think it’s a grades issue are probably right. Warner may not have qualified.

(Thanks for this)
I think we’ll be seeing a lot more de-commits like this going forward, as the program orients more towards grabbing top-shelf athletic talent that can contribute immediately, and edging away from the project players and JUCO reaches we pursued on D in the past. Judging by Tuberville’s track record in the SEC, his policy towards recruits with academic issues is essentially “Go JUCO and we will try and keep the door open down the road if you get your grades together btw thanks for helping our media buzz on the trail; if you insist on playing elsewhere we wish you well (in a different conference/classification)”

I'm not sure about that
We’ve got a solid offensive class, but the defensive recruits are looking pretty shaky. Out of our 23 recruits, we have 8 defensive commitments (three of which look very borderline right now).
We have 3 commits who are classified as “Athletes” (Washington, Daniels, Gaines), but I’m not sure where they’ll play.
At least two of the defensive commits are JUCO and grade-risk players.
Hopefully we’ll be able to hold on to the higher rated prospects.
Not to jump the gun, but maye losing Willis at the “11th hour” may have hurt us more than we anticipated.
It’s a long way to Wednesday. Let’s see what happens then.

Willis' presence on the staff was important to many of these recruits, the ones who changed.
Just as we lost recruits when we changed coaching staffs before NSD last season.

Tubby said he only brings in young men who are recruiting machines;
I am sure that The Jeep’s integrity issue hurt us some. Maybe not so much with those three stars; but I am sure it gets pretty competitive at the four star level. Especially in the SEC. Last I heared, it was $180,000 a pop. Just saying.
"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.
