TEXAS TECH FOOTBALL
Cowboys Roster Moves: Nagy To IR, Holland Is Back, Harris Is Released - Blogging The Boys
Congrats to former Red Raider Daniel Loper for being signed to the Dallas Cowboys!

Tech focusing on blocked field goals | Red Raiders
From what I've read, this is what bothers a lot of fans from the past two weeks, here's RG Deveric Gallington:

"After A&M, we kind of harped on it, and today we harped on it a lot," Tech offensive guard Deveric Gallington said after Tuesday’s workout. "We did a lot extra, a lot more reps in it, so I don’t think there’ll be another problem with it."

Red Raiders football notebook: Speed against speed | Red Raiders and Notebook: Players talk special teams, playing in Norman, more - The Daily Toreador: Sports
In the LAJ notebook, Williams writes about the speed of the OU offense and LB Daniel Cobb says that the Texas Tech offense works fast in practice too:

"Their fans are loud," Gallington said. "It kind of makes it hard for us to hear things. We’ve harped on today being louder in our cadences, little things like that. They have a good tradition and they stick to that. Going in there starting fast will be really key for us."

And QB Seth Doege talks about his three interceptions last week:

"The thing about those interceptions is the progression wasn’t terrible," Doege said. "I knew where I was going with the ball. It was just one of those things where I forced it or didn’t see a guy. On that last one, I was just trying to throw it away and didn’t throw it far enough."

In the DT article, WR Tramain Swindall talks about the atmosphere in Norman:

"It’s pretty ridiculous, man," Swindall said. "Once that crowd gets going, the players feed off of that. It’s just impossible, you know, to do what we want to do. "

And the increased role of IR Cornelius Douglas:

"I’m feeling more comfortable," Douglas said, "just making plays out there, just getting the ball to me, just settling down and just doing what I can do."

Bob Stoops Weekly Presser - Texas Tech - Crimson And Cream Machine
CACM checks in on the Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops for his weekly presser in preparing for Texas Tech.

OU notebook: Doege a worthy heir | Tulsa World
A bit on Doege and what he's done thus far as well as checking in on OU S Javon Harris, who knows three Red Raiders, RB Harrison Jeffers, IR Cornelius Douglas and WR Marcus Kennard:

"Cornelius Douglas went to Lawton High. Harrison Jeffers went to Ike. Marcus Kennard actually graduated in my class (MacArthur '09) and went the juco route," Harris said. "It's going to be exciting to see Lawton guys out there."

Douglas is Tech's fourth-leading receiver. Kennard has added six catches. Jeffers is sidelined while recovering from back surgery.

"Me and Cornelius have known each other all our lives through parents and stuff. Our dads are best friends," Harris said. "When we go home we see each other. It's going to be fun to play against him."

LADY RAIDER BASKETBALL
Tech women seek continued improvement from 3-point line | Red Raiders
I really like what head coach Kristy Curry is doing with the Lady Raiders and hope that the upward trend continues, here's a bit of what they're working on in practice:

At the end of most Texas Tech women’s basketball practices, the Lady Raiders, with their legs taxed and their muscles sore, step behind the arc for one more drill.

With two minutes on the clock, players — one at a time on each end of the court — are tasked with making 25 shots from behind the 3-point line.

The purpose: Preparing players of every position to be ready to make basketball’s most momentum-changing shot when the team needs one the most.

This game won’t come down to a blocked FG…….this will probably be pretty ugly

What's disturbing from reading these interview is that

everybody, the players, coaches, everyone is talking about how hard it is to win in Norman. So far, I have not heard anyone say at least publicly that we will try to BEAT them or something like that.

I don’t think Swindall is in the right place mentally, and I think we have to look at the messages coming from Tubs. And before you start bringing up your favorite youtube rants from Leach, remember that we are talking about Tubs here. Famous quotes in the thousands on this one essential element. But here's what I would send Swindall right now
“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

I think you need to read the entire comment from Swindall

He is saying that once their crowd smells blood, the Sooner players feed off that, and at THAT point it becomes difficult to do anything. This would dovetail perfectly with all other comments from coaches and players that a fast start is imperative to take crowd out. Go read the whole thing. You knitpicking, seeing what you want to see, etc etc

Lets do it different this year.

I want to see us trying to win the game for 4 quarters. Last trip to Norman it was apparent that we decided in the second quarter that the game was lost and we started trying to grind out the clock. Never quit, never give up.

Special teams need to be fixed

Like a lot of you, I bitched and moaned a lot following our last 2 games. I complained about the play calling (2 straight runs on the goal line, running the ball after the onside kick), ATM players getting “hurt” during sustained drives, and everthing else about our losses. But, it’s our Special Teams that really cost us the games. If Tech didn’t have the blocked kick against ATM we could have potentially won by 5 instead of losing by 5 (10 point swing), or, against KState, have 2 blocked kicks & a KO return for a TD we, potentially, could have won by 13 (1 blocked led to great field position). I’m not saying we would have won (the games would have played out differently), but special teams is definitely our achilles heal that needs to be fixed now.

Special teams just suck for us!

Why isn’t that a priority for us? Any coach worth a crap knows you win or lose games with special teams—college or pro. WTF’s with Tubs on not fixing it? I can deal with all the other stuff on O and D, but any damn fool knows you gotta have well-coached special temas play—you CAN HIRE A COACH TO DO THAT SHIT!

It has been Brown’s favorite play thus far this year, and Leach’ favorite play in Norman 2008. It spelled 3 and out all day in 2008, all day against Kstate this year……how about we put that play back in the holster this week coach Brown?

Even in my most optimistic half-full glass days this week, the best I see Tech realistically doing in this game is keeping it inside of 2 TDs. I really see no logical or realistic way we win. Sure, if we knock Jones out on the first series; they lose 4 fumbles inside their 20; and we have 15 plays of 25+ yards we could win. But … I see a fairly ugly beatdown headed our way Saturday.

Sounds like someone likes to harp when things need improvement.

I cannot remember hearing that word so much as of late.

Coach Curry has her team in a good situation currently, she has enough depth and experience to take the coaching to a different level. Some of the things that they have focused on the past couple of years are now more firmly in place and do not require as much time during practice, the door opens for different, perhaps more subtle details, the kind that make a difference in a close game or that add a different dimension to the team’s over all abilities. I don’t remember ever hearing about a drill focused on 3’s, especially late in the game 3’s.

Applying that to the field goal situation, we have to think there is something there to consider…oh, Coach Moore has had this group 2 or 3 years, never mind !!
