I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I'M HAVING TO DO THIS
In light of yesterday's comments that I had to ask, pretty-please, to refrain from discussions about religion and name-calling, I'm going to try to make it as clear as possible: 1) Do not call people names in any form or fashion; 2) Do not discuss religion or politics; and 3) Do not tell DTN members to leave DTN because you disagree with a comment. If you can't abide by these relatively simple rules then I'll be giving you a time-out, for a period of time to last at my choosing. You would think that by this time we would have figured this out by now and I try to let people say what they want, but it won't be tolerated any more. And this goes for everyone, no matter how long you've been around DTN, I don't care about seniority or anything else, especially item #3. I don't need anyone telling anyone else that their comments aren't wanted. That's my job. As to the other two, these are the two easiest rules to follow. I do not want religion or politics discussed on DTN. Find some other place to go to discuss that or have an email conversation about it, but I don't want these topics discussed here.

Reports of Tadlock's hiring still not confirmed | Red Raiders
Apparently, it's not a done deal, hiring OU recruiting coordinator, Tim Tadlock (also a former Red Raider), here's head coach Dan Spencer:
When asked about the hire, Spencer said, "I can’t (confirm it) yet. We’re in a position where we’re trying to dot the Is and cross the Ts, so I can’t yet. I’ll feel more comfortable when the powers that be tell me we’re good there."

Tech's Neboh, Fisher to miss Iowa State game | Red Raiders
I hate that CB Eugene Neboh may miss the game and missing WR Aaron Fisher could hurt on special teams, but as stated earlier in the week, CB Derrick Mays, DT Donald Langley and LB Blake Dees are all expected to play on Saturday.
Backfield tandem blooms in victory at OU | Red Raiders
Nice article about how RB DeAndre Washington and RB Aaron Crawford are filling in for injured RB Eric Stephens (out for the year). Here's Washington on playing against Oklahoma:
"Oklahoma’s defense, they’re very fast and sometimes it hurts them in a way because they move too fast," said Washington, a 5-foot-8, 191-pound Sugar Land Marshall graduate. "They kind of overrun the ball, so that made cutback lanes wide open. I used that to my advantage."
And Crawford talks about adjusting for each game:
Crawford said, "Every game, it’s a game of adjustments. We saw something in their defense where we had to run that specific play and we went with it. We practice a lot of things for situations, just in case. The draw play happened to be one of them in that game."
Tech looks to avenge its loss at Iowa State in 2010 - The Daily Toreador: Sports
Yep. QB Seth Doege talks about remembering what happened last year:
"It was weird because we got down so bad early, and then we fought back," Doege said. "It felt like we were coming back and about to win the game, and then things go sour. We still have that taste in the back of our mouths, so it’s just one of those things. We’re motivated because we know exactly what they can do to us if we’re not really there to play."

Abilene High, Cooper meet up once again with 3-5A football title on the line " Abilene Reporter-News
This is on QB Clayton Nicholas:
Cooper has bounced back from an 0-2 start to win six consecutive games. Despite returning only two starters on offense from last year's record-breaking offense, the Coogs haven't lost a beat on offense. Much of that success can be traced to quarterback Clayton Nicholas, a two-year starter who became the Coogs' all-time leader in passing yards (4,914) and touchdown passes (49) during last week's 42-14 victory over Odessa High. Nicholas, who has committed to Texas Tech, has thrown for 1,911 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, along with nine interceptions.
Wylie-Snyder football game preview " Abilene Reporter-News
And ATH Keenan Ward:
You can't talk about the Tigers without mentioning do-it-all quarterback Keenon Ward. Committed to Texas Tech as an athlete, Ward has been one of the state's most explosive players this year, rushing for more than 1,200 yards, passing for more than 600 and accounting for 27 total touchdowns. Behind him, Snyder has averaged nearly 35 points per contest.

Washington
What a pleasant surprise he has been from the beginning of the season. All the talk the past year was Marquez, Williams and Daniels. I seem to only remember him in the list like an afterthought. Maybe he is the next Stephens. What a pair for next year. Just shows that you can’t know from HS who will bloom first in college.
Yeah, it shows that you cannot tell from HS media reports who will bloom.

Now that is a little silly, Seth.
A state run university is, by the very nature of it’s own existence, a political organ.
(For extra credit, how about a house of worship, named after a politician who runs the university that athletes may attend?)
I did not chose that reality – Nor did you, or anyone else here. Anyone who looks or a segment of life untouched by either is bound to be disappointed.
You will probably find that asking for civility will be heeded more often than asking people to duck and cover each time reality comes around. Reality is messy and imperfect, like all of us. Please accept that.
That's all well and good

Yup!
Seth’s rules are actually quite reasonable, and shouldn’t be too hard to follow. I can name another site where folks get out of line so far that they act like overgrown junior high kids (and I used to teach junior high, so I can spot that behavior anyday) getting into a pissing contest. That stuff gets REAL old after a while. And, yes, if you don’t like it find another blog. Also, if you want to discuss politics and religion you can always go to the AJ blogs. I like to come here to get away from all that “stuff.”
Seth should make a rule

Glad that DeAndre Washington is taking this opportunity and making the best of it. Some of these freshman players are really stepping up and I think that will send a solid message to potential recruits who may be considering Tech. I like what this coaching staff has done this season by getting the younger guys involved in the games. I’m also ready to see Kenny Williams get his opportunity with more playing time. That kid is going to be very special in Tech’s back field.
Now that the Rangers have left me hanging another day I will shift my sports vice back to college football. Let’s make sure we don’t let the Cyclones do what they did last season.

Williams may turn into a lost red shirt opportunity the way things are playing out.
He has time to get onto the field, I doubt that it is because he is not needed but more that he is not ready.

Speaking of freshman RB’s, is R. Daniels still in the doghouse?
I hope D. Moore is 100%. If so, Doege will put up more record breaking numbers against ISU. Crawford, Washington, and company likely to put up some big rushing numbers too.

The true source for tech news
I’d rather not call it a blog as this place is too insightful to be called as such. I’ve always appreciated the passion and intelligence this group has shown. I would hate to see it diminished or destroyed by a single entity. Seth works too hard especially with a new one in his house needing attention for this place to turn into one of the other sites. I hope we all find cooler heads and are able to concentrate on the more important things. Namely bowl games and our coach’s weather forecasting.

Seth, I really like your site
but i never post and seldom visist becasue of the name calling and certain posters wanting to run othes off. Its not just the name calling of other posters, but the name calling of the Tech admin and the coaching staff that just makes it a very unpleasant place. The snide comments and down right hatetred at times are ridiculas. Hope you get it under control.
Unpleasant place?
I agree about name calling….but have you visited any other blogs?

But for real…i see what you are saying. I have got them some when posting other opinions that are in the minority here. Just have to take it with a grain of salt. Us Red Raiders are passionate people. Seth does a great job of monitoring DTN and has put together a great blog. I hope you stick around and contribute.

Actually I think we have more posters contributing here than most places.
Absolutely some of the smartest and no doubt the most passionate contributors too. But you have to admit that our situation is one of the most unique in the country, and any other fan base would be just as spicy given the same circumstances. In fact, I’m pretty sure that admin buildings would have become giant bonfires had it happened at an SEC schools. All things considered, we’ve held it together pretty darn well.

You might have this site mixed up with another. This tends to be a very friendly but opinionated blog group most of the time. Contribute to the conversations and you’ll be welcomed on most accasions. Immaturity does exist but it’s limited in comparison to the other Tech blogs.

Yes, we're opinionated!
And I’m very much so—but this site does tend to have a much more intelligent and civilized level of discourse than the other local Tech blogs. I just don’t waste time posting at the other blogs that supposedly “cover” Tech sports—you either get jumped on by some juvenile adults in full attack mode or censored by some Fascist moderator who doesn’t allow “certain” subjects to be discussed. Compared to these other sites, DTN is for sure a breath of fresh air.

I'm sorry about your father
I empathize, my Dad busted his hump his whole life to put 4 kids through school and retire in his late 50’s so he could live his dream of being a full-time rancher only to be struck down by Alzhiemer’s.
But from what I understand about Parknson’s, the victim has as perfect a mind as they ever did , but there’s a problem geting the message to the muscles to perform what their mind wants? If this is true, at least take comfort that he can listen to you and know you love him. God Bless you.

He passed away 4 years ago this month.
He would get so frustrated because he could not get the words out or move like he wanted.

Seth, I have been a blog follower for three years but have never replied. You do a wonderful job. I really enjoy the work you do, and would just like to ask you to keep it up!!
My Father
also had Parkinson’s. It totally changed him from a funny King of the Forest to a quiet hermit. Very sad. My kids were the only ones who could put a smile on his face.
My dad had Alzheimers
He wasn’t all there for the last five years of his life, though he sometimes gave us “flashes” of the old Dad—especially whenever he’d charm and sing for the nurses at the facility he was in. Never forget his last birthday, when he grinned just like a naughty little kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Nurses fell in love with him and mourned him just as much as we did when he finally passed in July 2010.
Hey DTNers!!
Anyone want a ticket to the game tomorrow? My friend I was going with can’t make it. I’m still coming up for the game. So the catch of course, is that if you are interested in the (free) ticket, you would have to put up with me for the game!!!
My seats are in Section 107 about half way up very close to the aisle on the side closest to the 50 yd line.
Apparently Tech is pretty much giving away tickets to this game so they can call it a “sell out”. Talked to all my friends in Lubbock & they all had extra tickets. Thought I would throw it out there anyway in case anyone is interested. Hate to see a ticket go to waste!
If anyone is interested shoot me an email: dfarmer@austin.rr.com

I’ll be in Section 11, and I’m trying to get rid of a ticket myself. We’ll see what I can get—but I’m still going to see us get bowl-eligible. Hope I have enough money to buy one of those servings of Cagle’s steak bits—mmmm, mmmm!
