Week 5 Football Press Conference Quotes and Video - Texas Tech Red Raiders Official Athletic Site
As always, lots of good stuff in the quotes. Go here for a transcript to QB Seth Doege, CB Tre' Porter and head coach Tommy Tuberville talk about the Kansas game and previewing the Texas A&M game. Here's a bit from Tuberville talking about the linebackers:
We'll wait and practice this week. The thing about it is as we practiced yesterday, Cqulin and Cobb were running with the first group. But there's not a lot of difference between the other two guys. I think a little bit of maturity on Cqulin and Cobb. They've been around a little bit longer. They've played faster. You could tell they made a lot of mistakes in what they were doing, but they played faster when they made mistakes. They tackled better. Not so say the other two can't do it. But it will be fun to watch those guys compete each week to see who is going to be the starter, but all four will play. So that gives a situation where we can practice those guys and all of them are going to be around for a while, so hopefully they'll make each other better.

Just play you most talented players. The LB position has been a mystery at Tech since the departure of Zach Thomas. Who want’s to be the next pick 6 LB against A&M?
I’m liking the Scott Smith and Leon Mackey duo as the bookends. LB’s and secondary need to force turnovers and stop the run at first impact. Think Dwayne Slay. I feel like our offense is playing great and and nice kick off return by the rabbit would be really special.

"We started too late" - Neal Brown
I remember a monsoon type rain during a Mizzou / Nebraska Game a few years ago.
They didn’t stop the game.

it's called time management
No bullfights. No gambling. No donkeys. No vanilla extracts. No piñatas. None of that stuff. Straight football. No switchblades.

Smith
Don’t we feel like he is going to be a step slow just getting back? Have we heard anything about his progress?
Transcript
Tubs says he’s in terrific shape and just needs to work his way into rotation. The goal is to have Mackey, Richards, Bush, and Smith rotating all game to stay fresh and bring the heat.
Teach me how to Doege teach me teach me how to Doege!!!

He played Crude Fest this year.
He’s lucky he made it out of Midland County. You don’t mouth off to a bunch of drunk roughnecks and think you’re going to get away with it.

I was sorry to miss it this year!
I had this damn graduation thing to go to! I can’t stand that guy though. He’s headlining over Creager this weekend too. That really chaps my ass.
Im not worried
about the tackling of the secondary….being led by Cody Davis, theyll be fine.
the fact that we’ll have FOUR rotating DE’s (FIVE w/Scotty?) lemme see. Bush, Mackey, Richards, Smith….did I miss anyone? We’ll see.
We’ll also have FOUR guys rotating at the the two LB spots….I like our depth
Arriba sus Pistolas, Muchachos!
is Ronnie Daniels done for the year?
if not does anyone one know when he’ll be back?
No information other than
his current suspension is indefinite, so one would assume he has some behavioral standards he needs to meet before he’s reinstated.
Shame to waste the talent.
Around here football is bigger than the state of Texas!

Interesting read of tuberville's comments...
On being asked about A&M’s move to SEC, he said that ATM is the best fit from big 12 because they can run, play defense and are fast. U can take the coach out of the SEC, but you can’t take the backwards thinking, trailer park outta the coach, immarite?!

And yet ATM is 2-2, almost as if our HC has already admitted defeat.
That is the second time I have had to listen to our HC say that.
I expect to win on Saturday, I don’t know what he’s thinking.
"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.
+1
"There is no chance he will win, but if you think about it carefully he would be a pretty good candidate. He says a lot with no substance, he's proven he can be bought, he's dishonest, and he has the personality of a TV evangelist so I think he would be perfect in Washington!"-- Mike Leach (When asked if he would vote for Craig James for Senate)
I think that he is looking at this game...
… as his interview for the Aggy job.
I have a poetic license
Then Leach wins his lawsuit and gets this stipulation
I want my job back. Now!!
Attempting to adjust to Life without a Bucket.
And...
Saying the Cobb and Hubert made a ton of mistakes, but tackled a little better than eugoveon and dees?! WTF coach, give credit where credit is due, it was clear that experience proved a million times better than raw talent, tell those kids so. #borderlineontubs

Those boys
definitely played lights out compared to the starters.
Jarvis Phillips also seems to be playing his heart out, and really helping in the secondary. Wonder why he wasn’t a starter?
I du no
I only watched the game live and without the privilege of knowing the exact assignments or pausing to replay, Im inclined to side with Tubs on this. I remember a lot of plays where those two still looked “out of position” and in coverage they’re a lot slower than Sam as Blake. But they did, in fact, tackle better and get off blocks better.

ABSOLUTELY
Yee Haw that Wal-Marts open. Sweet tea and grits somebody hit the banjo. The fundamental philosophical question of the age. Do you run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run? I think we all know the answer. The question is does cornbread know the answer.
I love grits.
I could eat grits at every meal.

Oh man, a bowl of bacon buried in grits is my go go juice.
A box of Shiraz would so make it perfect.
I have a poetic license
I did not have my reading glasses on, I had to look at grits twice.
