Week 11 Press Conference Coach Tuberville and Doege
Week 11 Press Conference Coach Tuberville and Doege
COACH TUBERVILLE:
"I thought defensively at times we looked decent, but we're still a long ways away. But we're looking for answers on offense, because as we know, that's where we've been the strongest, and that's how we've been able to keep in the game or win games." ................... "But it's been nine or ten games in a row now. So it's about putting a game plan in. Not worrying too much about techniques and fundamentals." ...................
Q. How do you work with the players to regain that swagger they seem to have lost?
COACH TUBERVILLE: ...................
"Well, it's hard to play with emotion when you're 25 points behind. It's almost impossible. So we've got to play better on both sides. It's not -- offense, obviously, hasn't played nearly as well as they played early in the year. Defensively we've been up and down. "
"I would say there haven't been a lot of games where we've played a game where we came out and said, hey, man, that was a great defensive game, haven't done it in two years, so other than maybe the Missouri game last year when we really played well for three quarters. "
In his opening statement, he says he thought our Defense looked decent but then later on he says the Defense hasn't been good for 2 years
Q. Seth, how was yesterday in your team meetings, and what did you guys talk about to try to get this turned around?
SETH DOEGE: It was a positive meeting. There wasn't a whole lot of talking. It was kind of one of those things where it is what it is. It wasn't the team that we are that showed up.
We watched some things and made some corrections. It was one of those things where you just let that one go. We have two great opportunities left, so that's what we're going to focus on rather than what kind of performance we put on last Saturday.
Why are they not talking to one another? Someone needs to step-up and be a leader on this team.

Let's try this again
That’s exactly the problem. It was a positive meeting?!?! It should have been one of those meetings where all were called out on their bad play!
That's how I read it too
It should have been a yelling and pointing out mistakes and getting things out on the table and dealing with them … not a nice cordial meeting
NUTS - Never Underestimate TEAM Strength
Remember that this is supposed to be a kinder, gentler coaching staff. Remember how abusive the previous staff was.
The trouble ain't that there is too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right. -Mark Twain
The team doesn’t have the energy or emotion to riot.

Im likley the most patient person on this board, but from reading the quotes from both Tubs and Brown Im starting to wonder. Its like they are not even suprised this is happening, like our program and our players arent worthy of positive thinking.
Maybe Tubs is happy and its all part of the championship plan to tear the team down to a loosing season only to build it back up with guys that have four years of on the field experience. Its totally lame and a really feel for all the guys whos careers and hard work for 3+ years are being sacrificed for a season in 2012 or 2013 that might not even happen.
College Football: "Our Traditions are now for Sale"

Hey Tubs this is the Wild West, Good guys wear white, we wear BLACK. ....................................................................................................................................
Offense
Q. Are you happy with the offensive play calling?
COACH TUBERVILLE: Yeah, it’s the same play calling we’ve had for two years. We’re not an offense that’s very complicated. Everything we do is all formations and adjusting to what other people do. Most of it comes from the quarterback. We call a lot of plays from the sideline, and it’s a run-pass combination.
Whatever they do, we go to the one we think fits the best. I think it’s good for Seth for what we do to give him some options of making decisions, and there are some things we lock in too.
A lot of times it’s just about having confidence and making that play and getting it done. I thought early in the season we were getting better and better each week. We got to a point, and when we got to that point, we haven’t improved. We’ve digressed.
You can point a lot of fingers at it, but when it all comes back to one thing, the thing that I want to do more, Neal wants to do more, and this team needs to do more is be able to run the football. Not put all the pressure on the guy having to throw the ball down the field.
I think DeAndre Washington’s going to be a good player. He’s learning. He’s getting better. He’s made some progress. I thought in the Oklahoma game he really came unto his own. But he’s got a lot of room for improvement when you’ve got a freshman back there really taking the load.
Are you freaking kidding me? He is happy with the offensive play calling? run the ball more? This in and of it self is ridiculous. We are so 1 dimensional it is not even funny the only runs we do are up the middle out of the shotgun. There are no crossing routes when we throw it is always to the sidelines. There are no middle passes and when we throw it to the sidelines that adds an extra defender for the Defense this makes no sense. I never see any slants it is like the receivers are trying to catch the ball then go out of bounds. There is more I can rant about but it is the same stuff you have all heard just like this press conference.
That's "regressed"...
but I digress…

Don't know how to tackle and get a player wrapped up
But CTT says this:
“So it’s about putting a game plan in. Not worrying too much about techniques and fundamentals.”

game plan?
I read your game plan above. I have concluded, because I am sharper than a bowling ball, You don’t have one! You’re laying this on Deoge?
“Everything we do is all formations and adjusting to what other people do. Most of it comes from the quarterback. We call a lot of plays from the sideline, and it’s a run-pass combination.”
Give him some options, other than walking off the field in a heap because you have no imagination>

Burn more dumpsters
"Oh, yeah. We don't even talk about Bowls much. We're so far away from being a team right now that can have a chance to compete in a Bowl." HC Tommy Tuberville.
and couches.
Hey Tubs, if you keep this shit up we won’t be hiding behind couches anymore. We’ll be burning them instead! Get your shit together!!!!
I had to delete my initial response in light of the Sandusky stuff going on.
But uh….. in The Factory of Sadness. For the entire game!
Here it is
it all comes back to one thing, the thing that I want to do more, Neal wants to do more, and this team needs to do more is be able to run the football
Tubs is determined to make Tech an SEC run style offense! He does not care if he loses every game while trying to accomplish his goal, IMO.
As for the rest of his comments, all I have to say is BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

The worst thing that could have happened
is for cTT to see Texas have success running the football old-school style. It just validates in his mind that a ground oriented attack is the best thing.
And make no mistake, I love a good running game. But only when you have the horses up front to actually open a hole – and we don’t. And won’t any time soon. I screamed till I was blue in the face for Leach to run more when he was here because we lost too many games in the end when we simply couldn’t grind three minutes off the clock. But by “run more” I wanted maybe another 9-10 carries a game max. And I wanted to be able to get one yard when needed without stopping the clock on an incompletion. Not a full on pro set running attack.
11/12/11...66-6...I once was blind, but now I see.
Well, he must have missed the Texas score from Missouri Saturday
If you are going to gauge teams by how they perform against the Texas Tech defense this year, you are going to have a very warped view of the Big 12.
2011 Season - No excuses. Just win!
Suck
CTT doesnt realize that we run this offense because we cant recruit the talent necessary to have a power run game. OU an UT get those guys, we have to be creative with the talent we have, which could never go nose to nose with a power run game like UT, IMO.
If you read further ...
he doesn’t trust the QB to get it done. He thinks it’s just too much pressure to be consistently excellent. Sad.
by Arizona Raider on Nov 14, 2011 5:40 PM CST up reply actions
this is inaccurate, we are most certainly not moving towards an SEC style running offense
but what’s actually happening is somehow worse. If the staff were just to say “screw the spread” and bring up some backup OL as blocking tight ends, commit to Ontiveros as an every-down fullback, and put the linemen’s hands on the ground and tell them to go maul some people, we’d probably be having more success right now, even with the pass-protection type linemen we’ve been developing for all these years. As it stands though, the running game that is getting mixed in is, as has been pointed out, very simplistic and mind-numbingly predictable, which doesn’t help out a line that’s being asked to block down from their pass-protect stance. We’re mixing in just enough of the worst of both worlds right now to be extremely balanced in our poor play.

I don't care
if we average 450 yards a game on the ground, as long as we win. Although at this point, I’d settle for competitive.

How about this one ...
Last week we made wholesale changes on the defensive side trying to find some answers of how to stop somebody running the ball and throwing the ball and getting our offense back on the field.
I think for the first time in TT's career...
his team is looking to him for some leadership…and he’s got nothing…he has always relied on his assistants to coach him out of trouble…but his assistants have about as much of a clue as he does…

obtw, and the players know it...

This is really a lost coach
He’s not making sense. So many areas need improvement and yes the offense is horrible but the defense is equally bad. Technique and fundementals he speaks of are a large part of the problem. Play calling is a mess.
"You've got to find your inner pirate" - Mike Leach
he's still trying to sell us that his defense is doing well
I don’t think anyone is buying it anymore. Defense is horrible. Offense has digressed. Special teams. Well, bring your popcorn, because it’s gonna be exciting.
No bullfights. No gambling. No donkeys. No vanilla extracts. No piñatas. None of that stuff. Straight football. No switchblades.

Here's what I don't get
He’s been telling us the Defense doesn’t even know how to tackle – they don’t even have the basics down.
Now he’s telling us it’s the game plan they need, not worrying too much about techniques and fundamentals.
Which is it?
"Oh, it's already been brought'n!
Here's what really pisses me off
“Well, it’s hard to play with emotion when you’re 25 points behind. It’s almost impossible.”
How about playing for personal pride? How about playing for your teammates? How about playing for the fans???
It’s only next to impossible when your coach says it’s next to impossible.

OU did it and nearly came back o us
We did it against Kansas. So I don’t want to hear this excuse. Is it hard? of course if it were easy everyone would do it.
How about using emotion BEFORE you are down 25 points
…just curious, have we ever been down by 25? Weird number. There is so much doublespeak coming from him right now that it sounds like he’s just covering every base possible.
11/12/11...66-6...I once was blind, but now I see.
25 pts behind
Aparently he has never watched Texas Tech file footage

double wow ...
we are doomed. Reinforces my belief that Tubs is meddling in the play calling more than he is letting on. He just doesn’t trust QB’s. I remember Bear Bryant saying something like there are three things that can happen when we throw the ball and two of them are bad.

I wonder if this domain is available…if so I think I’ll buy it and post this report as the opening salvo. Tubs is the wrong guy for Tech. Will never get the players he needs to run his power-I, ball control style of football. And even if he can generate 7-5, 8-4 seasons who would pay to watch it?
I've seen that article before
And it sure as hell explains a lot. Please, FIRE TUBS NOW!!!!!!!

Nancy will be the new OC next year mark my words
This team needs a true leader and Tubs has him waiting under his wing. This my friends is the 3 year plan for championships we’ve been hearing about. Promote promote promote promote Nancy, divide the team, promote Nancy to OC upon eligibility ending, rise like a Phoenix from the ashes.

meddles in offense, doesn't back his players and scapegoats his coordinators...
wow…didn’t we do our research before we hired this guy…Meyers and Hance were desperate for a ‘name’ in the wake of the Leach scandal and let it slide…now we are paying the price. Tubervilee couldn’t get a job in the SEC or Big 12 now if he worked for free…unbelievable article

Man, I am with you
I just read that article earlier and damn, Tuberville’s history is repeating itself.
My continued thanks to Kent Hance.
The only gameplan we need is to throw the damn football to the receivers....and throw to the running backs outta the backfield
Also we need more slant routes…the REAL Air-Raid had multiple receivers going in all damn directions. We have SPEED…how about using it.
Just Win!
Gotta Hand it to coach Tubs He has a system and he is gonna

Unfortunately he is gonna take down the FB program with it.
“But it’s been nine or ten games in a row now. So it’s about putting a game plan in. Not worrying too much about techniques and fundamentals.” ……………….
This might be true is the team was showing signs, any signs, of having sound fundamentals…….. So sad.
