ODDS AND ENDS

Inside a Wave: Awesome Photography by Clark Little | awesome-elephant.com
There are some links and photos at the bottom of the page that are probably a little NSFW, so when you get to the photo of the guys signing books, then stop scrolling.  But given the title, photos inside of waves, it's pretty cool.

Good luck and hope to get a 2nd conference win.

LADY RAIDER BASKETBALL

Smalls intimidates on defense | Red Raiders
Excellent profile of PG Monique Smalls and the defensive pressure she brings each game.  Love this type of attitude:

"You can tell that they’ll start dribbling further away (from the key), or they’ll start losing control," Smalls said. "You can just look at their eyes to see if they’re freaking out, or sometimes they’ll start yelling at their teammates. I know I’m in their head because they are starting to yell at their own teammates.’"

TEXAS TECH FOOTBALL

Red Raiders football notebook: Three staying home | Red Raiders
Oh hi!  Moar injuries.  CB Shawn Corker is out for the rest of the year, RB Ben McRoy is out with an illness and LB Blake Dees continues to be out.  Also, IR Austin Zouzalik is on the travel roster, but won't play.

Texas Tech At Missouri: Beyond The Box Score Preview - Rock M Nation
The numbers say that Texas Tech loses by 18 and so does Vegas.  Bill Connelly always does fantastic work and I highly recommend this post, but here's a portion:

So basically, Tech's offense has played at a better-than-average level six times in ten games; their defense has done so just once. The defense has trended toward poor, but their offense has almost literally gone up and down, then up again, each week. Their last two road games, however, have seen two of their best (opponent-adjusted) offensive performances, so the trip to Columbia does not automatically mean they will lay an egg. (Evidently this is the year to play them at Jones-AT&T Stadium, eh?)

Multiple bowls give struggling Red Raiders incentive | Red Raiders
I do want Texas Tech to go to a bowl game because they could use the extra practice time, but I also want the season to end today.  It's quite a conundrum.

ASU FOOTBALL: Rumph on All-LSC first team " Standard-Times
Remember how we talk about the team lost DT Myles Wade and DT Pearlie Graves along the line?  Well, I forget about DT Lawrence Rumph who also could have helped as he had 9.0 sacks and 13.5 TFL for the year for Angelo State.  Don't let me forget about Rumph when we talk about roster management.

Pinkel suspended one week without pay Tiger Extra - Mizzou Sports | ColumbiaTribune.com
Pinkel made a mistake, but he seems like he's taking responsibility this is from CT's Dave Matter on what he's giving up this week:

Also, Pinkel will donate the following week's salary to the MU Wellness Resource Center, a total of $40,769, which comes from his base salary and guaranteed incentives.

In addition to the suspension without pay, Pinkel's salary will be frozen for one year.

He will be required to complete 50 hours of community service by June 30, 2012.

He will not be eligible for his $75,000 salary bonus if MU qualifies for a bowl game this season.

He will not be eligible for the $100,000 social/academic responsibility bonus that's part of his salary package.

The financial impact of the suspension terms equals $306,538 if the Tigers qualify for a bowl.

We need to see more of this, but dissapointed the group was so small.

Speaking of which, I didn’t see anything unusual in those wave photographs.
Unless those images at the bottom rotate through random crap, with something less tame than an alligarot. Hmm.

Also, we can have pizza delivered and steak delivered, and sometimes even sandwiches but what about breakfast burritos? My microwave is down and banging around pots and pans will wake up the whole neighborhood.

Plus, not having players on the field lends to a nice excuse for poor coaching

I know, I know, I don’t think that there is some conspiracy going on to fake or over-hype injuries. However, I do think Tommy probably feels some relief that he’ll have another excuse to fall back on for his team not getting it done.

I tend to think you’re right. These guys aren’t conditioned as well as Bennie had them. Also think the the pain threshold might be much less with coaching staff. Leach didn’t discuss injuries and now I tend to prefer that decision.

Totally agree Btech

seems we’re unnecessarily behind the 8 ball every week because our strength & training program isn’t what it needs to be. Stoopid move getting rid of Benny Wylie.

We don’t have a chance. Can’t we just play the first quarter and tell the opponent that all of our players are hurt.

Okay Okay, Il'l eat pop tarts next time. Wow guys.

By the way that’s the second time I have said that today- Am I the only one who goes to Arby’s and gets the whole long list of things they don’t have, can’t cook or have run out of? They are very poor at even pretending to be a restaurant.

Welcome to Arby’s uh, but we don’t have any beef, or straws. Could you please buy us a new shake machine? Oh and we don’t have napkins or bread. We have been like this for at least a year, but have hoped no one will notice. Would you still like to order sir?

Every time I go there thinking they might have fixed the place, I get a spiel about what they can’t or won’t sell me, before I am allowed to order. Am I just lucky or are they just a very half ass establishment? Why can’t they handle my buisness?

Anyway…Sorry about the burritos. I don’t even know what happened.

Bowl Game

Don’t even care right now. More important is to restore a bit of the fans’ lost faith and enthusiasm with competitive efforts. If that results in wins (and a bowl invite), so be it.

By the time bowl season rolls around, I expect to be well into basketball with the scab on this turf burn of a season healing nicely.
