Tech v. Baylor Point Spread

Some have asked, "How far have we REALLY fallen?" Well, here's another key indicator of our recent futility: Baylor has opened as a fairly sizable favorite for Saturday. Depending on which line you prefer to follow and bet by, Baylor is favored by anywhere from 9.5 to 11.5 points.

I think this about right. And it's stunning to say that. Even when Tech struggled in the 90s, I don't think Baylor was ever favored to beat us by two scores. What a fall from grace we've had. Not that we were ever really week-in, week-out world beaters, but this is quite a tumble.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors.

That's hilarious!

I see another Okst loss…11.5…should be 41.5 in my opinion.

Remember those hurricane fences before they had rounded tips? A buddy of mine in junior high got hung up on one of those and shredded his thigh. It was nasty. But a cool story.

Damn, I wish I had the courage to bet.

If Baylor plays half as good as they did last night, we lose by 40. RG3 will love Tech. Remember the Texas State game when the receivers ran past our secondary. Shit, watch Baylor hit at least three 60 yard plus scoring plays.

I know it is way to early to predict, but I say 56-12.

Baylor has NEVER beaten Tech in B12 play (0-15)

But I’m concerned. I say TTub gets his name in the (dubious) record book once again.

by rednblackET on Nov 21, 2011 1:21 AM CST reply actions

This is their chance

They’ve made it a close game the last three, including the ’08 team (w/ injured Crabtree and broken fingers on Harrel). All 3 were 7 points or less. They are 7-3 with us and UT left. 9-3 sounds like a dream for us but they have a real chance.

That will change this week.

Our team played better against Missouri, but we were facing a Missouri team that did not even want to play until well, the second quarter when we went all SEC on them and let them know that we did not care either. I am not at all encouraged what the result might be this week against Baylor.

Means nothing anymore

Tech’s perfect record over Baylor is history. All your going hear all night is “RG3 to a wide open Wright.” Our defense is nonexistant and won’t be able to cover the run or pass. Could be a very ugly loss similar to OSU game IMO.

If the spread stays below 14 points...bet the farm on Baylor

This could be ugly (56-10) or it could be interesting for awhile (42-28)….but Baylor covers the point spread. And my guess is that it gets ugly.

Unfortunately,

Baylor will likely throttle Tech on Saturday. Our only advantage is perhaps Baylor will have a letdown after their emotional win against Oklahoma. But talent and coaching wise, they are a far superior team. ( I NEVER thought I’d say those words regarding Baylor and Tech).

I was accused of being a sunshine pumper

as recently as OU. However…after three straight blowouts I had had enough. I don’t see improvement in this team and that is all that WOULD give me optimism. We saw two very dull 5-5 teams play on Saturday and we couldn’t hit 30 points. We are now just a run of the mill team fighting to get to .500.

I don’t see any logical reason for me to be “up” about this program at the moment. Like anything in life, I can change my mind. But I don’t see this program going in the right direction. OU was clearly a fluke. Glad it happened, but a fluke none the less.

Me too, but let's not make the expectations too high on these kids

There will be some tough sledding in B12 play, I expect. Definitely optimistic about the program though.

I hope a lot of DTN football-only fans adopt the bball team this year. But be patient. They truly DO have a young team.

Betting Spread to widen

I expect the spread to widen. This has happened several weeks this season. I have never bet with a bookmaker, but I like to look at the spread for different games. This season the spread has widened throughout the week in favor of our opponents several time this season. This is the first time I have ever seen this happen. Usually the spread narrows as the bookmakers try to lay off thier bets to hedge their risk. This just tells me that the odds makers and people placing bets are all betting on our opponents even as the bookmaker widen the spread to make the bets more risky for the favorite. Just an ovservation.

As a result of losing a bet, I have to refer to this team as "The team from Tech that lost to the Fightin' Texas Aggies" and I have to refer to our coaches as "The Tech Coach(es) that NEVER beat Texas A&M" until the end of the season.

by Birddog97 on Nov 21, 2011 9:51 AM CST reply actions

They call that the “smart money” . The smarts bet early and cause the line to jump on Monday or Tuesday. Then the “public” comes in later in the week.

Baylor = Pee Wee football at its finest

I cant believe they won. Art Briles is getting so cracked out on RGIII his long range accuracy is amazing, the chemistry he has with Wright (#1) is pure playground. they will be rebuilding for the next decade. Only once in a lifetime can you call offense like a pee wee coach and win games. Really watch them play

1. Bomb
2. Sweep Left
3. Bomb
4. Pass over the middle, cause your worried about the bomb
5. Sweep Right
6. Roll Out, QB scramble 1st Down
7. Bomb
8. Bomb
9. Sweep Right

Im not slamming it, It works and its amazing football to watch

O yea and remember their DC took the Baylor job over the Tech job

We have no answer

for the run. We certainly have no answer for the running QB. Missouri was marching the field during their 2nd half rally facing a 3rd and 11, and what play did they choose for this crucial 3rd down conversion? There was no hesitation, and not even a fake. The QB kept it and ran for 12. Missouri. Chaps my ass.

RG3 is going to have a record day. I’ll be there to see him on Jerry’s big screen.

I will buy my season tickets again next year, but I’m hoping for change.

Thank God for Kansas.

Tech defense vs Baylor

Tech is ranked #115 and Baylor is #114. So does this mean it will be a shoot out? Well the rankings were about the same for OSU and we all no what happened there!!!!

by Leacherhere on Nov 21, 2011 1:53 PM CST reply actions

a year ago it was a shoot out, but now our offense is struggling.

combination of injurys, bad playcalling, receivers not getting open, Doege off etc…
Baylor will put up more points than us.

The over/under

for combined score is 102. If the combined score gets that high, I’ll be giddy. Allthough, if it turns out the score is 70-35 in favor of Baylor, maybe I won’t be so giddy.

Frankly, I'm glad we hit KU early in the slate

I don’t know that the team as it stands now could even beat the Jayhawks. Baylor eats our lunch, and RGIII goes 1-2 lifetime against Texas Tech. In other news, I’m curious to see if we have any healthy skill position players left on offense by the end of the game; they’ve been dropping like flies.

by mojavereject on Nov 21, 2011 3:40 PM CST reply actions

I hope we win and keep the bowl streak alive (potentially, not a guarantee)

Because if we miss a bowl, it won’t hasten Tuberville’s departure any faster. He’ll have all of 2012 to show he knows how to coach in the Big XII. Sure, he has won in the SEC, but this is the Big XII. Different animal. Thank God.
