Gleinser: Leach issue still remains
Pretty cool article in the Daily Toreador today. I'll bet anything this guy reads DTN. If he doesn't, we need to recruit him.

Read this a while ago myself
Sounds like there is a divide with the students over Leach’s treatment, at least at the Daily Toreador! The only part I disagreed with was “guaranteeing 10 wins” had Leach been here last year. You can never guarantee anything like that.
But liked everything else he had to say – especially what he said about accountability. A LOT.
Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says, "oh crap, she's up".
yah that statement about guarantee
was an exaggeration. nothing is guaranteed, ever, except death and taxes, of course.

"Guarantee"... Something that's interesting to me...
I could swear when I read the original DT article by Cody Stoots that this article responds to, it originally said:
“I guarantee that a game like Iowa State will never happen again.”
When I first read that article… I thought, hmmm… “guarantee”… that’s a pretty big statement…
But now when I went back to read the original article, it says:
“In full belief, I can say that a game like Iowa State will never happen again.”
Interesting… still a pretty big statement… but a little short of “guarantee”…
Anyway, when I read “guarantee” in this article, I thought that previous statement influenced or provoked the statement…
Or, maybe.. I’m just going crazy…..?

I still think the original article said "guarantee" about the Iowa State game...
Afraid it’s some kind of internet conspiracy that all of the sudden, now it doesn’t…
Would love to have anyone else either deny or confirm my original memory… so I’d know whether I’m crazy or not..

Somewhat surprised by the anti-author posts
Can there actually be a few Tech students that feel the article is off base? I find that hard to believe, although I guess it is possible. I tend to think that with lawsuits against Spaeth Communications, TTU, James and ESPN, a lot of money is being spent to continue posting anti-Leach sentiment on the www where ever it can be found. Great article though! Spot-on assessment about the current state of affairs at TTU. Out of wack.
As an aside… personnel decisions are not the only thing the current admin has wacked. Admisssion decisions are now too; as Hance & Bailey strives for their precious Tier 1 status. My daughter has close to a 4.0 GPA, is ranked just outside of the top 10% and will graduate with one semester of college credit (by passing Advanced Placement exams) from one of the largest ISDs in a metro area in Texas. Her standardized test score sucked though, which she is retaking this weekend. She would be a 3rd generation Raider btw. Tech has already sent her a deferral “thanks, but not right now” letter from the admissions department. When I questioned the admissions people as to how Tech was going to reach 40,000 students with such seemingly high standards, they could not answer. Competing interests, quite the conundrum, almost like a dog chasing its own tail. It is clear this admin, as demonstarted by their past and current decisions, is blinded from clarity and rational thought, blinded by their own ambition and desire to make a name for themselves at the expense of other stakeholders of TTU… I apologize for my non-football rant.
wow, seriously?
that’s pretty stupid. she’s so smart but didnt do great on one standardized test. pretty stupid. i got an 1110 on my SAT, back when the highest score was still 1600. a pretty mediocre score, and they let me in. That was pre-hance though…Anyway I wish the best for you and your daughter. Don’t give up! She’ll get in.

That seems a bit unnecessary
that’s pretty stupid. she’s so smart but didnt do great on one standardized test. pretty stupid.
Simple rule of thumb: Everything before the but is BS.
I don't think Jameson
was denigrating dfwraider’s daughter, although it could be read that way. At least I didn’t read Jameson’s comments that way. Maybe I’m reading Frisco’s comments wrong.

I didn't take it that way
although, I did chuckle after I realize how it could have been taken out of context
i apologize,
definitely did not mean it that way. at all. bad choice of words. i was referring to the admissions at tech people being stupid. dfw’s daughter would obviously make be an awesome red raider, with those kinds of grades and the family tradition.

i typed that so fast i messed on typing that too.

yah, those
disparaging comments threw me a little bit, and wreaked of suspicion, to me. there’s no way that’s how a majority of people feel. that was one person probably commenting multiple times. and, anyone can go on daily toreador and comment, kind of like here, actually, lol

I would rant too, unbelievable
Good luck to her, although it doesn’t sound like she needs it, she sounds like a smart cookie!

I don't think Tech is alone in their weird admissions policies
For one thing, I believe the state mandates automatic admission for top 10%. I’m not a huge fan of that, but I do think years of school work should trump a 4 hour standardized test.
I have two college students. One was just outside the top 10%, the other just inside. Both had decent, but not outstanding, test scores. Both were accepted by their first-choice school.
Best wishes for your daughter. I think she’ll make it.
You've seen what they did to the Honors College?
Some really bad University management going on at Texas Tech.
they
drastically reduced it’s budget. can’t remember if they were actually going to phase it out or not.

An ignorant and uninformed article
I know that I will be in the minority here but that’s my view point. I think the timing of the publication of this article was not only unfortunate but the content in the article was largely inaccurate. With our program at cross-roads, we need to support our current team and coach and help the succeed. Bitch about the administration as much as you can but this stupid and illogical whining about the team and the coach is nonsensical.
Funny. The only ignorant and uninformed part of the article to me was the administration's decision in 09.
But I still support our beloved Tech while having that opinion. See…it can be done!
the article,
was partially a response to what another daily toreador writer had written earlier in the week. kind of like an attempt from the daily toreador to be fair and balanced, i guess. here’s a specific quote, the author’s main reason, apparently for the article,
“What made my blood boil on this issue, however, is how a column appeared in Tuesday’s edition of The Daily Toreador in which the author demanded everyone who thought Leach would have won Saturday’s game to write a letter of apology to the athletic department.”
Kind of like someone posted on DTN earlier this week about the disconnect between the media and how a lot of people actually feel, the media, LBK media included, being on board with bad decisions and not wanting to ruffle feathers, and so forth

Actually
I found the article to be quite logical as laid out by the author. What might be illogical for a student supposedly developing their independent thinking, is the obvious avoidance by the nay-sayers responding to the author, of the rather damning evidence of the depositions. It is possible that the nay-sayers don’t know what a deposition is, where it comes from and are from the rah-rah school of college students.
None are so blind as those that will not see.
This website is full of extremely logical bitching about the play of this team and we will see Saturday what kind of great turn around Tuberville has engineered. I would be that most all posters here would wish him luck.
Jef - please list the inaccuracies in the editiorial including references that back up your claims
Not being a smart aleck here. Honestly interested in documented factual inaccuracies. This is where we get in trouble on this issue – or any issue really – when we start throwing around opinions as fact without backing them up with credible references.
We need to discuss this subject with facts; not, “stupid and illogical whining” on any side of the issue.

^this
it is however, so much fun to get in trouble sometimes…..

2009 - 2010 .... remember these dates.
Dr. Bell proposed, developed, and FOUNDED the Honors College … yrs. before Smith or Hance hit campus.
He was out on the road RECRUITING the top students in the nation; selling the Honors Program its curriculurm and classes. Behind his back Hance and Co. were redirecting his staff and personell, and cutting his program by more than 30 classes. AGAIN, behind his back. He came back to Texas Tech to this, having promised parents and students something that was not longer going to be there. It had to do with MONEY — hum — Hance had another use for it (remember the student radio station?).
Dr. Bell had no choice but to resign … don’t think Honors program all over academia didn’t talk about this one? How about all those students arriving on campus to a "new’ reality?
Again … for whatever reason … Hance is gonna get his way … or he will destroy you or the school, it doesn’t matter to him which …………. Hance needs to go…………………………………
PS: Hear Coach Leach mention the others he’s hurt or run off? Like the Law School, Med. School?
Well, it’s true.
PS: We also don't know what the sh** they've done with the money.
I haven’t seen it piling up on the books — anyone else? Perhaps they’re building their buddies parking garages, among other things? (MHO).
I liked the article
The kid makes some good points, and I’m actually surprised Tech didn’t censor this editorial. I don’t follow the administration party line or drink the kool-aid that the RP posters swallow, so what this says makes sense. It makes me laugh reading the ridiculous charges that there are “so many inaccuracies in this article, blah blah”—that’s usually what Pravda or the New China News Agency says about dissenting viewpoints that they want to discredit. DTN’s got too many intelligent people to believe that administration garbage, though, and I’m proud of this kid for putting his neck on the line with this article. That’s the kind of student I’m proud to see attending Texas Tech University!
If Tubs is so freakin’ great as the Tech coach, let HIM win 84 games at Tech and I’ll compare him favorably to Leach. Don’t think he’ll stick around that long, though.
It's nice to drink things other than Lubbock koolaid.
"As we continue to merely "talk about championships""
It'll be something...
When the stuff this administration is doing finally comes to light. Don’t think I’ve seen anything like this bunch of clowns in the Bell Tower over the years I’ve followed Tech and when I was a student there.
Can't decide if this is a student that knowingly jumping off the bridge ...
.. or one that thought he would be received well.
For the age group I can believe either. I’m also in the camp that feels the article is a reasonable response to the earlier article and basically reflects the facts as we know them. That said, surely Gleinser understood in advance that he would catch a ton for this – both by some of the public and by internal forces.

Harvey "Big Daddy" Pollitt: "What's that smell in this room? Didn't you notice it, Brick? Didn't you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?"
i'll bet he does know,
which may have been all the more motivation for him to write the article. and good for him too. i’d like to shake his hand.
