Report | Terry Price Possible Defensive Line Coach Replacement
I don't know why I am, but I'm always a bit wary about quoting Football Scoop for information on replacements for the recently terminated defensive line coach Sam McElroy, defensive backs coach Otis Mounds and offensive line coach Matt Moore, but Football Scoop is reporting that Terry Price is the likely replacement along the defensive line:
Texas Tech: We have been told that one of Tubs' longtime guys Terry Price will be joining the staff as defensive line coach.
For a bit of information on Price, he's a graduate of Texas A&M and has worked for or with head coach Tommy Tuberville since his days at Ole Miss and through Tuberville's termination at Auburn. Once Tuberville was gone at Auburn, Price caught on with Houston Nutt at Ole Miss and now that Ole Miss has found themselves a new coach, Price finds himself most likely without a new job.
This shouldn't come as a surprise, in that Tuberville is doing all of the hiring, maybe Tuberville will give defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow the opportunity to find the secondary coach, but if this is true, that Price is the defensive line coach, Tuberville isn't going to trust or permit Glasgow to make the hire, Tuberville probably realizes that if improvement doesn't happen, he'll have no one else to blame so he might as well and hire who he wants rather than what Glasgow wants.
You can check out Price's biography at the Ole Miss website and the Rivals site has the players that Price is currently recruiting. Food for thought: Ole Miss had the #111 nationally ranked rush defense (Texas Tech was #120) and to be fair, had the #64 ranked rush defense the year before.

Just am for some reason. I can’t explain it, it just seems so . . . anonymous. Maybe that’s my problem. Don’t get me wrong, they’re right quite a bit.

Ha! I’m apparently 2 days late with this information as CoachingSearch.com had this information on Friday:
Texas Tech: There is a report that defensive line coach Sam McElroy, corners coach Otis Mounds, and offensive line coach Matt Moore will not return. Tubs says the information is a bit premature, but changes are happening. Don’t be surprised if former Ole Miss defensive line coach Terry Price is on a plane to Lubbock, Texas in the next few days.

Looking at Price's current recruiting targets
there’s not much to get excited about. The two big men are already committed to other schools and the WR looks very average. The other kid (ATH) looks interesting. I expect that Mr. Price is spending more time looking for a new job than recruiting for the new regime at Ole Miss.

Same here. Nothing to get my pallet wet on this “hire.” On the CB coach hire is Deion available?

This Fits..
..the pattern. As I said a few days ago, Tubby will look for guys in his “backyard” of Mississippi and Alabama. Specifically, he’ll be targeting guys who can bring recruits with them from that area – like Blake Dees.

So I guess that hire should be +9? Not sure what to expect from any of this movement but getting better is hopefully on the list.

Losing that loving feeling ...
oh that loving feeling, that loving feeling,
oh, oh that loving feeling, now it’s gone, gone, gone
and I can’t go on, no, oh, oh.
Tubs, please give me a reason so that I can bring back that loving feeling.
Mcelroy was a good coach and a good man
He coached as dc in our only respectable defensive performance in two years: against northwestern in the ticketcity bowl.

I think 2010I vs Missouri would qualify as a good performance as well.

Respectable D performance against NW??????
Did you not see that game? They rolled the 2nd half against us while rotating 2 backup QBs.
We haven’t had a good D since Goodner was let go, except for 2000 and 2008. We need to improve the D and Tuberville is taking action to do that. I don’t understand those who are upset with Tuberville W/L record at Tech are upset he is making personnel changes. Isn’t that what you want him to do, try and improve the performance? It sounds like some of you guys are going to complain about him until he is gone or wins a championship.
What Tuberville hiring D position coaches tells me about Glasgow is that Glasgow better grow up as a DC in a hurry or next year will be his last here. He needs to do more than yell out there.
9 out of 100
Right now we have 9 commitments from the Rivals Top 100 recruits in Texas…be interesting to see if that number holds, goes up or goes down. If I had to bet, I’d say it goes down.

I am so excited that we are brining in a guy who ranked #111 in rush defense.
I guess that is a marked improvement from where we are coming from. Tech football is so depressing. Thank goodness Seth shared the holiday pictures with us. Otherwise, unless my fantasy team wins today, no reason to watch any football until September 2012.
I will be crazy by then.

If you didn't come here to win 7 or 8 games
what better way than to move up from 120 to 111 in defensive capability. Kinda insures not winning 7 or 8 games.

Nothing special about Price
Seems like a desperation move if anything. Tuberville will probably make more changes in an attempt to convince fans and alumni that things are going to be different next season. Resign and I’ll feel much better about the direction of this program.
I’m really more concerned about our recuiting and if it’s headed into the crapper or not. We need some athletes that can make things happen on their own because coaching them up is obviously not an option.

Point of clarification...I don't think coordinators are ever
responsible for hires. I’m guessing there is some conversation about who to hire between HC and DC/OC, but I’ve never heard of a coordinator hiring position staff.
11/12/11...66-6...I once was blind, but now I see.
I think it’s going to make it tough on Glasgow to not really have anyone that knows the 4-2-5 like he does. It would have been nice if Tuberville could have thrown him a bone and given Glasgow another position coach that could have helped him continue to teach the 4-2-5.

OK. So Mr. Price was terrrible last two years at MS. But so was everybody else down there, players and HC.
What about before that? I think when at Auburn they must have been pretty good.Anyone know if he has anything to hang his hat on?
I am so negative now;
I am against everything Tommy does now. I can’t help myself.

+1!
I’m having to kinda step away from following Tech football for a while (I’ll get back into it for sure). But I’m so negative about Tubs and his program that it’s starting to affect my Christmas season. Ain’t worth it! At least our Lady Raiders are kicking butt and the BB guys are growing up. BTW, did anyone see the AJ article about BCG’s 12 days of Christmas? (His teams going aound and doing service work for 12 different charities in Lubbock this next 12 days.)
