Recruiting on the South Plains | OL Rashad Fortenberry

I really don't know how much I'll be able to add to what third commit from Gulf Coast C.C., Rashad Fortenberry could bring to the team. In terms of actually being able to see him play with my own eyes and I even tried to watch the Javon Bell highlights to see if I could make out #73 but had little luck. Sorry for not having better information and as a result, this will be the least informative of the profiles of the recent JUCO commits.

Let's get to it.

The Measurables:

RASHAD FORTENBERRY
Position: OL
DTN Profile
Video: N/A
Rivals 5.6
Scout
ESPN N/R
24/7 Sports N/A
Ht: 6'5" | Wt: 285 lbs | Forty: 4.90
JUCO: Gulf Coast C.C. (Perkinston, MS)

The Player Speaks: LAJ's Don Williams spoke with Fortenberry:

"I fit in well with the program," Fortenberry said. "I’m more of a passing (pass-blocking) tackle, and I feel like I’ll do good in this program."

And with Fortenberry's coach:

"Rashad’s a great kid, great player," Mississippi Gulf Coast coach Steve Campbell said. "He started every game for us this year and was an all-state selection in what I think is the toughest junior-college league in the country. He has great feet, good punch, excellent pass blocker, good run blocker."

Offers and Rankings: The only offers that I've found are from South Florida and Louisiana-Lafayette. No rankings either.

Star-divide

The Video: Not available.

Scouting Report: Again, sorry to disappoint, but I find it disingenuous to to try to tell you about a player that I haven't seen play. The only thing I can say about Fortenberry is that he's got a big frame, that he played offensive line on two very good teams for Gulf Coast C.C. and he's played both guard and tackle, which gives me hope that he could be a part that could be plugged in at either spot.

Rashad, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!

The 2012 Class: Almost ready.

He went to High School in.....

Franklinton LA and graduated from Bowling Green Academy and my oldest son actually played against them in football and basketball…..Bowling Green was in our District (live in Clinton MS)…He played both ways in Football…..he was a very good DL but apparently excelled at Gulf Coast on the OL….also a good basketball player so he is very athletic,,,,also he was a commit out of HS to S. Carolina and Spurrier definitely wants good OL……Welcome to Raider Nation…Wreck"Em Tech

Thanks for the info. Good to know he is a good athlete. Maybe he would or could play along the defensive line if necessary.

Franklinton?

I used to live about 2.5 miles from Franklinton. I didn’t know there was a school there. We went to school in Hammond and Amite. We have a ranch right off of Hwy 16.

Sorry for the rant, you don’t usually hear that name very often.

always the same?

For the majority it’s 2 years but some are able to get 3.
