Recruiting on the South Plains | DE Desimon Green
I don't know why I had these as the High Plains, but obviously it should be the South Plains . . . right? That means I'll need to change the logo. Anyway, we're catching up on actual signees from the 2011 recruiting class and up first is DE Desimon Green.
The Measurables:

More after the jump.
The Player Speaks: I couldn't find anything after signing day, but in December he was named the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Player of the Year and talked about his dominant performances on offense and defense for his high school team:
What did you learn about yourself?
"Under pressure, I do fine. Not to brag, but being down 24 points and playing quarterback, I could have easily got rattled or down on myself. But I didn't because I knew we still had three quarters left."Snip
Who has been the most influential person in your life?
"I'd have to say my mom. Without her, I would have gave up a long time ago. I don't know where I would be at now. I'm so thankful for her and my trainer, Ms. Tammy (Ridgley), for pushing me. I wasn't going to play football anymore in high school. Ms. Tammy came to my house before my sophomore year, and they made me come up there."
The Video: The first video is mainly Green at quarterback and the second video is mainly Green on defense. And I'm much more impressed by the defensive video, but the truth is that Green looks like he's just so much bigger and better than anyone on the field.
Scouting Report: I really like his quickness off the ball at defensive end. He looks like he out-classes just about everyone on the field, which makes me not trust the video, but he's really athletic and as I mentioned after signing day, I love the fact that Texas Tech has 3 players of similar size and speed. Here's the Scout analysis on Green:
A jumbo athlete, Green plays quarterback and standup defensive end for Clairton's 5-Man front. He has the athleticism and change of direction to play outside linebacker on the next level. Depending on how he keeps growing, he could end up as a defensive end. Should he end up with his hand down, he'll need to take on and disengage from blocks better as he's apt to get pushed around once a blocker engages him - Scott Kennedy, Scout.com.
I agree with the later part of this. I think Green eventually need to be a defensive end with his hand down, although he looks comfortable as an upright rusher, with his size, he should eventually be a nice option at defensive end.
Desimon, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!

I thought,
you had made it ‘recruiting on the high plains’ because it was started during the Leach era, and you wanted it to sound like ‘recruiting on the high seas’.

Heresy
Common vernacular is “South Plains” as evidenced by the numerous businesses, organizations, events, and cotton gin/cattle auction conversations employing the plural version.

It’s South Plain. I heard it on ESPN.

Should be South Plains - plural
No different than High Plains or Great Plains. (South Plains are a subset of the High Plains, which are a subset of Great Plains.
None are a single plain, but rather a group of plains within a region.
With all due respect...
It’s South Plain. For real.

Sources?
I am the first to admit I am no expert in this area, but what sources are you references?
I know you jokingly referenced ESPN in your earlier post.
I am totally open to stand corrected with facts, and appreciate learning new things every day.
Please share.
Before Ron Franklin got canned by ESPN
He seemed to be the broadcaster always assigned to Tech football and basketball games in Lubbock. During the intro, and several times during the broadcast, he’d say: “We are on the South Plain, in Lubbock Texas tonight” or something to that effect. He did it for years, so it has to be true. No legitimate company would allow their broadcaster to make the same mistake year after year after year. This proves that the correct pronunciation is “South Plain”
He also let the world know that Steven Sheffield’s teammates affectionately call him “Stick”.

He has one of those "The King's Speech" problems
But instead of stuttering he cannot add the plural to nouns or noun as he might say.
What is "Good-Strong" and why is there always so much more of it after a jump?
Green
If these clips are indicative of the level of play in PA HS football, its nowhere close to what we see in Texas. Yes, Green does seem to have the physical traits for success, but whether he can play up to his competition will be the key to him being a factor in college. I wish him the best of luck!
I am not sure how you can conclude this looking at a couple of films
apparently football coaches at Texas Tech, Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, West Virginia and Oregon all thought otherwise and offered him schollies.
agree...
if he’s good enough for Prunty, he’s good enough for me… that guy seems like a pretty good evaluator of talent
Level of play in PA
Of course, it is not Texas, but several decades back there was an annual game between TX high school all-stars and PA all-stars due to the fact they were considered the best two states in high school football. One might remember that there are a number of NFL greats from PA starting with Marino, Montana, Dorsett, etc.
The Big 33 game
I remember it well, it began in the early mid-60s. The first year or so, Texas sent good All-District type players and got beaten at least once. After that, we sent All-State players and slaughtered Pennsylvania until they quit, or maybe Texas decided it wasn’t worth the expense.
Thanks for bringing it up.
Just what we need
Hes big and Fast and our defense needs that.
Yeah the H.S. competition he was up against made him look incredible.
But im still impressed.
Whoever said, 'It's not whether you win or lose that counts,' probably lost.
Film doesn't pass the smell test
he’s not blocked at all or slot receivers/undersized TEs are trying to chip him. Man among boys though he is, he’s going to be needing some polishing before he makes it at the next level.
If it doesn't work out...
Jace Amaro can always play both ways.
Seriously, though… I think this Green kid will be fine.
Southern High Plains
3200 ft is higher than any place on I-35. It’s not as high as Denver, but few areas are.
Lubbock....
Resides on the South Plains, in the Panhandle of West Texas. It always HAS BEEN this, IS this and always WILL BE this. I’m, the oldest fart here and what I say is fact.
What bilesteve said is true about the Big 33 game, as Pennsylvania backed out after their all-stars got their panties handed to them badly about ten straight times by the Texas ALL-STARS.
Green, though his competition in high school was weak, seems to be a beast on defense. I was not real impressed with his offensive skills. He runs worse than Rothlesberger, though his passing was haflway good. Defense is easily his strong point and there is where he will make his mark. Besides, we have some hosses already at the QB slot.

From what I remember there was a lot of high in the plain at Lubbock.
and it wasn’t just south.
as for me and my house, we chose the Lord.
