NCAA March Madness Allstate BFF Brackets | DTN's Official Team

For no reason other than I thought this was a terrific picture. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

Ever wish that more things worked like college brackets? That you could seed everything that way? Top 64 pre-game foods. Top 64 college players. Well, now you can do just that with your friends, with the Allstate BFF Brackets, which takes your 64 top Facebook friends (an algorithm seeds them based on interaction) and seeds them in four regions, exactly like the real tourney. Once the tourney starts, your friends advance with the corresponding seeds – till one is left standing. Check it out at here.

Texas Tech isn't a part of the NCAA March Madness, however, you can still participate in this national pastime on a couple of different levels.  It's become part of March Madness to fill out a bracket, despite not knowing a thing about college basketball, the teams or the players.  It doesn't matter a bit whether or not you know much about these teams because it's just intended to be fun.

As a kid, I always remember having favorites, despite not having a thing to do with the school and it's common for fans to love the underdog.  I rarely get the opportunity to write about those sorts of teams on DTN, but with Texas Tech taking this one out, we've got a little bit of time to figure out which team should be the official team of Double-T Nation.  There are a couple of things to consider.  We don't want to pick a team that is going to lose in the first round, but we also don't want a team that's relatively popular or already has a team blog that covers them.  So here are some of my candidates . . . after the jump.

Star-divide

1.  George Mason | A #8 seed in the East Region.  George Mason has been traditionally a strong tournament team and they have Villanova, a team that has struggled of late, in the first round.

2.  Princeton | A #13 seed facing Kentucky in the East.  I don't like my odds for Princeton to go far.  This is a little further back on my list.

3.  Indiana St. | A #14 seed going against powerhouse Syracuse in the first round in the East.  Another tough matchup, but it's the school of Larry Bird.

4.  Oakland | A #13 seed in the West Region facing Texas.  My thought here is that there are few schools that will root against UT more than Texas Tech.

5.  Temple | A #7 seed facing Penn St. in the West Region.  After that, there's a possible matchup against San Diego St. so it's not the toughest bracket.  Everyone loves Mark Macon!

6.  San Diego St. | A #2 seed in the West Region and will face N. Colorado, but they're so highly ranked.  It would be real easy to pick the highest seed.

7.  UNLV | A #8 seed in the Southwest Region against Illinois.  I'm sure that KWash will sponsor a party in Vegas if the Rebels win it all and the DTN community will be appreciative of that.

8.  Butler | A #8 seed in the Southeast Region taking on Old Dominion.  Last year's Cinderella darlings was fun, but does DTN want to be a band-wagon fan?

Princeton

I’ve always pulled for them when they’re in the Dance. Penn, Harvard, whatever. Gotta love the true student athlete who runs the play to perfection. They might get out Athlete-ed, but you can’t knock their preparation and heart. Doesn’t look good for them with a #13 seed though.

Horns fans seem pretty butthurt about getting knocked down to a #4 seed

so I think taking Oakland to knock UT out in the first round would be just about right for us

SD State

They seem to have a team capable of some upsets, maybe even getting into the Sweet 16. I like them as I feel the gurus are kind of overlooking them.

It’s hard to have many upsets when you are a #2 seed in the tournament.

The Butler did it last year

Or was that the year before? Anyway it was in the library with a crowbar.

I voted Oakland…simply because I didn’t know Oakland even had a college, and I lived across the bay in SFO for two years.

A Raider would choose Oakland

Makes sense.

Yeah, I figured that tie-in was the clincher for me.

No love for Utah State or Belmont...I disagree

One of those two teams is going to the Sweet Sixteen. I’m calling it.

Belmont

I want the Belmont team to knock off Wisconsin and be the cinderella team of this tournament, that team impressed me this year.

Screw the Men's Bracket

The Lady Raiders should be DTN Official Team.

I live down the street from George Mason so naturally, i'll vote for them.

They had a great run a few years back when they made it to the final four only to be shot down by that dumb looking noah kid from florida… bastard…

but anyway… while you say they are traditionally a good tourney team… they have ALWAYS seemed like underdog material that i will always root for!

Wreck 'Em Tech!
