Lyle Leong's Pro Day

Local Abilene video of Lyle's Pro day.

Star-divide

Please excuse our local sports guy for calling Lyle a walk on, and the tiny video.

Lyle seems to have really buffed up, and I had no idea his dad played in the NFL.

If you hit the back button you can watch Edmond Gates from ACU who was a standout at the Combine.

It is always a mystery to me how ACU can field one NFL draft pick every few years

this was interesting
Former Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts, an Abilene High graduate who’s been friends with Leong since they played football together in third grade, worked out for the New England Patriots on Monday in Lubbock

22 NFL teams?

ACU had more NFL teams at their pro day than Tech (15)?!? I thought Leong was crazy for attending ACU’s pro day over Tech’s . . . but that shows what I know. Maybe scouts feel the need to take a closer, first-hand look at the smaller schools due to a lack of national media. Not sure for the reason, but I am definitely scratching my head.

With the player strike going, NFL staff have a lot more time on their hands

If they don’t appear to being busy enough they’ll likely get laid off.

ACU apparently has a few guys

that are NFL caliber this year.

Our boy ran 4.31 40…that will open an eye or two.

Funny thing

I think many scouts were there to watch Edmund Gates, who turned a lot of heads at the Combine with his official 40 time of . . . 4.31. Very well done, Lyle.

I’ll bet my annual DTN subscription it was electronic timing, but I also didn’t see any timing equipment (only a couple of videos but none showed 40’s being run). If the scouts are relying on and comparing electronic and hand-clocked 40’s, it further reinforces the subjective nature of draft/personnel selection.

by CRV on Mar 22, 2011 8:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Looked at a variety of other schools’ pro day videos . . . only one showed any electronic timing equipment. So, the time was most likely hand-clocked. Yet, the draft analysts will continue to throw all of these time together and act like they mean something. Ridiculous.

That’s pretty damn impressive. He had the most success of any red raider on the field last season. If any player gets drafted from last year’s squad, it should be him.

I bet he got a high vertical jump too.

All Potts has to do is over throw LL, and when the pros see him jump seven feet off the ground,

watch their jaws hit the floor.

Go get em LL.

"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.

The analysis has proven that over the years WR is generally the biggest bust position in the draft. The guys that are world beaters ususally come from later rounds or free agency. That is with a few exceptions but I have seen this subject discussed repeadtly

Dont buy the Espn/Disney/ABC hype ! Playoffs are just spin to hide their agenda of owning our favorite sport.
