Unfortunately not...
my son plays freshmen baseball and it’s gameday. Otherwise, he would have urged us to go. You are going to a concert…George Strait? Getting lucky if so, the women love him.

My wife loves George Strait and has told me that she would leave me for him. Understandable.

Your updates are just as bad as RdrPwr's texts...
If I may…
RdrPwr – Doege sucks in game situations. Gonna be a long season.
Me – I was hoping to God you weren’t going to text me that.
RdrPwr – I’m sitting on my couch with a hangover and my ride still passed out. I may be pessimistic. Karam isn’t impressive either.
Me – Wonderful.
RdrPwr – Ok. Second series is looking much better offensively, I’m excited now. Stephens isa shifty SOB and Doege can run.
Me – I’m not sure I can do the roller coaster that is your play by play. F***!
RdrPwr – Haha! It was a roller coaster of a start. Both offenses are looking great. I’ll leave it at that.
Me – Secondary? Dare I ask?
RdrPwr – Umm… Our receivers look incredible. I’ll put it that way.
Me – 4-2-5?
RdrPwr – Its varying. First time i’ve noticed a straight set of it, pass attempt to Nancy James, came up with a pick. Granted, Nancy didn’t move to the ball…
Me – I’m going to start drinking at work. This has got to get better.

Maybe its just an independent or semi-independent group who thinks it makes them look smart?
Even the best points of view don’t merit that sort of thing yet.
Now – if it were halfway through the coming season, and things are way better than last year – maybe it could make sense. But today? Someone jumped the gun with that idea.

Impressed with OL & skill players. Doege getting way more reps & seemed to improve as game went on. Agree with blackbeard’s assessment on D. With Barr out, Smith looks to be our only pass rush threat.

There are two way to look at this right now.
Either the offense has jumped on board with Coach Brown and they are everything they are supposed to be. Or, our defense has a lot to learn.
Either way, I’m drinking and that makes everything ok.

Up With People
That really is a good one, golden oldie, but a good one.
Game just ended…texts from cousin…paraphrasing…
- Tech on offense looked really solid on the whole…whoever said running game would be our offense this year will be disappointed…almost 75% passes or so it seemed…defense is still very slow…Smith is only hope on DL..all the QBs looked solid in second half…New WR (Can’t recall name due to alcohol) looked awesome with a very long reception…Torres looked very good…all the RBs looked a step quicker…offense clicking, defense a work in progress…
Wait, what?
The radio broadcast just announced the defense was disappointing intentionally.
That’s right, they didn’t want to tip their hand because it was being broadcast.
Well- why not do the same with the offense, why let anyone watch?
Next year will it be done in a norad bunker?
I think there is a large inconsistency in that story if you follow it to it’s logical conclusion.
Secret football! Shhh!
Sounds like
From what was posted that the offense finally came around, with the coaches trying to get a lot of passing plays in as opposed to running. Meanwhile, the defense took a step backward and really needs to work on some things leading up to the Summer practices. Question: Does it seem to you the whole team is a bit more out-of-sinc than in previous years, or is my memory just bad?

Defense?
In watching the game, I believe a lot of the DL play was hamstrung by no qb tackling rules. CTT in after game interviews, mentioned how pleased that no one was injured. These rules take away the aggressiveness and I am sure the “no injuries” philosophy was emphasized by the coaches.
Don’t agree, but it is what it is. The game was geared to make the offense look good. I was pleased with the play of the first team OL, Deoge, Daniels, and Stevens.

lots of doom and gloom here
I had a great time, took some good pictures and thought that our skill position players looked solid. Was impressed how often i heard Blake Dees and Ronnie Daniels name mentioned. I dont know how fair it is to judge our defense based on its play against our offense..yknow, kind of like racing a vette against a pinto…Scott smith was in the backfield…a lot…

On the O-line today
1. First Quarter: LG Lonnie Edwards was penalized on the very first play for illegal motion. Excellent pass blocking on the Doege TD to Swindall. Line gave up a sack on the first play of the third possession.
2. At the 4:48 of the second quarter, Edwards missed a block on a shuttle pass, that could have gone the distance. Holding should have been called on him, but wasn’t.
3. Third Quarter: At 12:53, LT Terry McDaniel was called for holding—it was declined. At 8:15 of the quarter, RT Mickey Okafor was called for a motion penalty
Starting offensive line: #78 Edwards, #74 Okafor, #66 RG Deveric Gallington, #68 McDaniel, #73 C Justin Keown.
Overall, the line did a fair job of protecting each quarterback. No penalties on the second team o-line. Run-blocking was also fair.
I would score the o-line at a C+ overall.
Pictures
make it look like Lubbock was pretty today which is a good thing. I’m glad to hear there was a decent crowd and lots of recruits at the stadium. If the cheerleaders cam today, that is always good.
It is ten ’til 10:00 p.m. EP time and time to go home from work. I love getting ready for trial.
Texas Tech did win today didn’t it? Guns up?
Spring Game
Game on local TV so was able to record while I was at work.
Coach Tubs said after game that he told defense no blitzes for the first half and had some not playing full speed such as Cody Davis who was not supposed to use one of his shoulders that was banged up.
Unfortunately it looked too much like last year with inconsistant offense and a defense that would give up big play or could not hold on 3rd and long. However a lot of people in and out, two defensive lineman that you will count on in fall did not suit up and some young players are showing a lot of promise i.e. Dees & Daniels. Quarterbacks could not really run and apparent it will be a part of offense in fall. Not many dropped passes, good hands on most of the receivers including the big ones: Kennard, Zoo, Torres, Moore and everyone’s favorite James had 2-3 catches and he runs too! But he won’t make field when new TE is here in fall.
Reported that there were 12,000 people in attendance. Coach Tubs wanted 30,000. Maybe someday but it will take building up the event as Leach really downplayed it and it wasn’t much more than a scrimmage. He also interviewed how great the weather was with only 10 bad days a year in Lubbock. That is was a great place to raise a family and that he was excited to be at Tech. He is already putting plans together for an indoor facility, he wants new stadium sections on either side of the south endzone adding another 3000 seats and a jumbo tron on the south offices moving the Double-T score board to the north end of the stadium maybe next to the current Raider Vision screen. He is also leaving in morning to start recruiting at combine and then a high school coaches meeting. Said his staff would spend next 2 weeks preparing before going out to recruit for a month. He has his faults but a lack of a plan or organization is not one of them.
Baring injury the QB job is Doege’s. Showed good arm and was poised. Did have one interception and inexperience causes him to telegraph some throws. Karam only looked fair in my opinion. Young looked better and we know Brewer with redshirt but looked good for a high school senior.
I am excited for fall but a lot of work is still needed. We should be 4-0 with A&M coming into Lubbock for our first major test.
