Double-T Nation Post Season Awards | Offensive Rookie of the Year

This is the second annual "Double-T Nation's Post Season Awards". The categories which the DTN community will be nominating and voting are as follows: Offensive Rookie of the Year; Defensive Rookie of the Year; Most Improved Offensive Player; Most Improved Defensive Player; Special Teams Player of the Year; Offensive Player of the Year; Defensive Player of the Year; and Most Valuable Player. I'll be doing a post where you nominate players for the specific category and then I'll open up the poll the next day.

We'll be starting this list from the bottom and move up. Today, we're voting for Offensive Rookie of the year. Eligible players would include freshmen, redshirt freshmen or the first year for a JUCO player. Even if a player only played a handful of plays as a freshman, he's not eligible.

Here are my nominees: RB Ben McRoy, WR Darrin Moore, WR Eric Ward, and WR Aaron Fisher. This is a pretty short list, and I ran through the offensive linemen, but there there really wasn't a young offensive lineman that saw any significant playing time. If I've missed someone, I've got a link for other and you'll need to have a comment with the subject line "Other" and then list the player.

Let me know if I've forgotten someone and even though I've listed these players, I'd still like for you guys and gals to nominate players in the comments.

Yes, 3rd commit in 24 hours!

There must be a story here.
He is rated 2 star by rivals, which I believe means he is 2011 recruit. (rivals also shows him as 2011, not yet signed)
Does this mean he will sign LOI now and show up in August?
The sooner the better!

I'm ok with

the McRoy pick, but I kinda hope it’s Marcus Kennard….

This is for the past year

Kennard will most likely be on the list for next season.

Quick suggestion for Seth

I was thinking we should print a certificate for the winner of each category and mail them to the Ath Dept. Would that be any sort of NCAA violation? I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, but I think the players might think it is pretty cool to get a certificate saying:
DTN Offensive Rookie of the Year, etc.

At the press conference

You answer every question with “no comment”

Then after a few minutes, you throw a handful of papers in the air and yell “This eff-ing interview is over” and walk away. Then you come running back into the camera shot and kick the podium over and storm off again without saying a word.

This

and instead of certificates, we need to create a dtn award in the shape of ‘the shed’. The sheddies or something similar. Would Ctt be pissed if he wasn’t up for coach of the year? Kwash as host is genius, Blackbeard as his vanna white is greatness.

I am still traveling and hoping that everyone misses me. Will not get home until close to 3:00 am tomorrow morning so nothing will probably get done until Wednesday at the latest. Looks like it was a busy weekend.

I am thinking that a DTN certificate would be such of such value that it would be a violation. Although you may not believe me, I do not know that everyone loves DTN like you guys love DTN.

Missing everyone.

I don’t want to cause any unwarranted trouble for you over this. Just thought it was a fun idea. Would be cool to hear about McRoy opening a letter envelope and getting the certificate. Hearing the response would be fun, though no guarantees we’d get any feedback.

But I don’t want any issues around “boosters” contacting players and all that crap.

I'm working on a final four only bracket now

Just so I don’t lose all interest in the last 3 games. And also to hopefully gain a shread of confidence for working on a bracket next year. What a joke. My 7 yr old daughter filled one out and picked only better seeded teams in each game and is flat killing me to this point. Terrible.

About the recognition certs

We really don’t NEED any approvals to do this if we don’t make contact with the players. All we need to do is get someone (ttured?) to post our results somewhere that the players would be able to see them. If they really want one with “DTN” listed as the awarders, then we can provide a place. OR, we could post them in an establishment that someone knows about that would be happy to oblige us in doing such nice things. Anyway, the gist is that “we don’t need no &#*king badges.” Just do it and see where it takes us. Of course, we need to get this done before the school session finishes this Spring.

O.K., so the certificates are agreed upon. Let 'er rip.

Now – back to the idea of folks donating money for the new indoor facility if Tubs does away with the white helmets.

Here is my plan. Taking a kind of “March of Dimes Walk-a-thon” approach – I think we could get Tubs on board by the first game. We create a sign-up sheet that lists all of the games to be played next year. Everyone that signs up pledges an amount for each Tech game that doesn’t showcase the white helmets. In addition, each can pledge a bonus amount if he goes the whole season without white helmets.

O.K. – I apologize. This doesn’t belong on this thread.

If it can involve booze and debauchery

it most definetly belongs in this thread. Or any other thread for that matter.

I think the answer you’re looking for is yes.
