Texas Tech News, Notes and Links | 7 Things
Anyone up for a "caption this" for today's photos. The team in stripes are the Adelaide Crows, an Aussie Rules Football team.
1. Make sure and check out the links from Saturday and Sunday for a full recap of this weekend's sporting events.

6. Lockout has Carter back in Hub - College Football - Rivals.com | Nice catching up with former Red Raider, Brandon Carter, who has some good things to say about current strength and conditioning coach, Joe Walker:
"Joe Walker, I think he’s one of the most intelligent guys in the strength and conditioning field I’ve actually dealt with," Carter said. "I’ve gotten a lot stronger in a lot less time and just from just tweaking little tiny things like eating. Instead of eating my regular meals a day I eat eight times a day now. I thought I was eating healthy, I’d eat oatmeal before a workout and he’d be like, ‘no way, that’s terrible for you.’
"Just the small things that he does, he knows what he’s talking about. He knows how to put weight on people and how to take it off. He knows how to make people stronger, he knows how to make people faster and it’s just incredible how much Joe is into what he does."
7. Evolution: The New College Football Landscape & What It Takes To Win | Good stuff from a former player, Michael Felder, about how cash is king in college football:
Money matters, it matters more now than it ever has. Sold out stadiums swells the coffers. Wins boost donations. Great television contracts give you plenty of room to play fast and loose with your finances. Location adds to this because it makes it easier to cast a wide net for the players you need to power the football machine. When you get cash flowing in and a prime location you get the ability to make a juggernaut.

Great to see that Tech still does more with less. According to College Griidiron’s 2007-2008 report we ranked 9th out of the New Big 10. This report is two years in the rear, but I don’t think the order and money made has changed all that much. Bottom line, Tubby is not making enough speaking engagements and needs to get out there more.
1st Texas $120,288,370 Big 12
10th Oklahoma State $88,554,438 Big 12
11th Kansas $86,009,257 Big 12
17th Oklahoma $77,098,009 Big 12
21st Texas A&M $74,781,640 Big 12
46th Missouri $49,113,786 Big 12
47th Kansas State $48,160,113 Big 12
56th Baylor $44,151,763 Big 12
58th Texas Tech $42,844,855 Big 12
63rd Iowa State $38,642,013 Big 12
"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.
If it is two years old, how does it reflect on Coach Tuberville ?
Living large in Texas...Texas forever.
Very good point.
This was actually the 2007 football season so, really a long time ago.
With our stadium expansion, and increase in football season ticket prices (plus required RRC donations), I’m sure our numbers have climbed dramatically. Not sure what other peoples numbers are doing but I would expect a big increase on ours. Now big is $5M or so I would think… so not that big of a deal, but still….
Not a reflection on Tubby just yet;
Only making the point that Tubby was hired to go out and raise money. He has only one way to go, and I forgot how to do the sarcasm font.

Raising money is not necessarily equal to generating revenue. He seems to have the donors making their contributions (e.g., practice turf, new video board, remodeled locker room, etc). He is trying to introduce some new “traditions” and such to improve the game day experience, which should drive game revenue. At the end of the day, he can only influence revenue by winning. A big part of the revenue engine is outside his control and more in the realm of Leerfield and the Athletic Department. Honestly, I want my coach focused on recruiting and game plans as opposed to marketing plans.

do you know what this is based on?
Definitely must be pre-2008, but even without that I can’t understand how we came in below Baylor, who by all metrics I’ve seen runs terrible financially.
you've seen who run this place, right?
It’s depressing but not a huge stretch of the imagination

OLD NEWS
I think you are confusing the athletic budgets for revenues. Here is a more updated ranking of Big XII teams by their athletic budgets:

Here is another ranking of revenues from the 2008-2009 season:

As you will notice Tech is not exactly a have not. We are somewhere in the middle of the pack.

For some reason they completely ignore Baylor and the land of thieves (Oklahoma schools haven’t made their reports public)

Baylor is the only private school left in the 12 Minus 2 Conference.
