Doege discusses big role on 'Tech Talk' - College Football - Rivals.com
Tech Talk: How much faster is this offense going to be next season?Doege: This offense can get better from where we started. We are getting some guys in here that are a little faster and that can do some great things in this offense and be a more explosive offense. I was reading an article the other day where all of the head coaches were talking about explosive plays were one of the biggest ways that an offense can win games. Putting guys in here that can make plays after the catch, or make a run and make a guy miss is going to be a huge part of this offense.

Love it!
Tech Talk: Who does the most lobbying to have the ball thrown their way in the huddle?
Doege: They all do. They all say, ‘Hey, throw it my way,’ and I say, ‘Hey, get open.’ All those guys are really good players and we all need to work hard in the summer. I think we’re going to be a good group.

His grasp of the game’s technical underpinnings is downright Madden-esque
Nice interview and a great find !
Doege’s comments reflect what the staff is doing with off season development and who is responsible to lead it…that may be the single most significant reason for naming a qb in Spring. “Son, it is your team to get ready to play come Fall.” I hope they all have a great off season. Well, we know the conditioning staff have a lot of imput as well, but there is great emphasis in getting the team leadership in place with this summer’s player team work.
Doege is a doer, if nothing else, he has graduated early and is going forward to play football by continuing with a Master’s degree. Hearty well done, and best wishes for the next level of success both on the field and in the class room.

Great Point!

Never looked at it that way TallMike.
No QB controversy...
At least for the start of the season, it looks like Doege won’t ’t have to face the hostile home crowd that loved to hate Potts… It may only last until his first throw off the back foot, but I would like to see him have the opportunity to make some mistakes without the pitchforks and torches showing up. Not sure anyone really understands the pressure of being a QB at Tech, and I hope someone has prepared Doege mentally…

speaking of Potts...
Does anyone know what is up with Potts and Leong In relation to the lock out?

I spoke with Brian Duncan a couple of weeks ago and he has been asked to attend three different camps as an undrafted free agent. In his case, I believe the teams were the Texans, Saints, and Giants — he just has to evaluate which situation has the best chance of making the roster (or even practice squad). I am reasonably certain that Potts and Leong are in similar situations.
The catch is this year’s lock-out is really screwing this group of undrafted players. As the situation stands, they are waiting to attend camps that very well might not happen. It’s a very unfortunate break for this class.
Bad for Graham H too.
Green Bay coaches have commented on Graham specifically as a young player who is loosing a lot of valuable prep time right now.

Despite my early pinings for Karam, after the spring game, I have the utmost confidence in Doege. I think he’ll be as beloved as Sheffield and as successful as Harrell before he graduates
The back up is always the most loved.
I remember Harrell being booed, many times.

I am a fan of what I hope Karam can be as a Red Raider also.
But I do not want him on the field before he is ready, absolutely ready.

Doege's Comment on Potts @ Manning Camp
It’s always easy to over-analyze these interviews, but I found the following quote to be rather interesting:
I’ve heard that Taylor Potts went there (Manning Camp) last year and actually won the competition there.
This is purely historical and seemingly has no impact on the current roster, but I ask the question: How does the 3rd-string QB not know about the 1st-string QB attending a camp of “select” QB’s and winning a superlative honor amongst that group? I can’t imagine Lyle Leong saying “I heard Crabtree won some Blitzcough award or something like that”. I can’t imagine it never coming up in the countless hours of film study, position meetings, position drills, etc. I can imagine a defensive tackle or LB making the comment, but not someone playing the same position. I’m not sure if this reveals some internal team chemistry issues from last season, shows Doege to have only been concerned about his own preparations last season, or that interview responses are a collection of words often thrown together without much critical thought. Regardless, the wording just struck me as “interesting”.
You are right. It is easy to over-analyze some interviews, and you just managed to do this.
Without seeing the interview, there is no way to tell if he was serious or just jive-talking. Believe me, Doege is well aware of where this team has been for the last three years. While he may not follow everyone’s away-from-the-game activities, he definitely knows what was ans is happening with all QB personnel. Because of his being with the team that long, I have a good feeling that he is not fazed by any pressures that come from the game or from anywhere else. Listen to his interviews and his savvy leadership qualities and assuredness in himself and his teammates is very evident. I hope all the QBs learn from him well and provide great response when or if they are called on to play, anytime, anywhere.

My UT partner
is from Crane and is forced to root for Tech with Doege at QB. These next two years will be very interesting in our office when Tech and Texas play. I have to see the game jersey from Texas hanging on the door every year, ad nauseum. I need to make it up to Lubbock and try to get Doege to sign something for my pard to shame him into rooting for the Golden Crane! Woot!
