Five Questions | Some Football and a Little Basketball

1. WHO WILL BE THIS TEAM'S TOP OUTSIDE RECEIVER? No matter what happens this spring, Texas Tech will have two new outside receivers. The candidates, at least in terms of the post-spring two-deep are Eric Ward, Marcus Kennard, Darrin Moore and Tramain Swindall. Which two options of the four do you think will make the biggest impact this fall and why?
2. WHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SENIOR OFFENSIVE LINE STARTER OR WHO WILL BE THE MOST DIFFICULT TO REPLACE IN 2012? There are three senior starters along the offensive line: LG Lonnie Edwards; C Justin Keown; and RT Mickey Okafor? I know that 2012 is a long way away and perhaps you can consider this question to be a reflection of which player you think is the most important right now, but who will be the most difficult to replace next year?
3. THUS FAR, WHAT IS THE MOST INTRIGUING THING ABOUT THE 4-2-5 DEFENSE? Thus far we've gone over two of the seven parts for a look at the 4-2-5 defense and how it works (Part I: Introduction and Part II: Sizing up the defenses). Thus far, what are you most intrigued about in regards to the 4-2-5 defenses and do you share any of the same concerns in regards to Glasgow coordinating (i.e., he's never coordinated a defense before and since the 4-2-5 uses two different calls for the front six vs. the back five, I assume he's never made the calls for the defensive line)?
4. WHICH OF THE NEW BASKETBALL SIGNEES ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO SEE NEXT YEAR? Coach Gillispie has signed nine players in the 2011 recruiting class. The only correction is that you need to remove SF Merv Lindsay and add PF/C Daoudo Saoumaoro. Is there one player or two that you're most excited to see on the court?

5. OT: DO YOU CARE IF I'M POSTING DTN POSTS ON DTN'S FACEBOOK PAGE? OT: I've recently started sending the DTN posts that I do to DTN's Facebook page. The poll is after the jump, but I'm curious as to whether or not you use Facebook and if you care I'm posting stories to DTN's Facebook page. I admit that I really don't use Facebook at all and I'm rarely on Facebook at all. Feel free to answer below or answer the poll question.

4) Because of him being a Lubbock native I can’t help but be most interested in seeing how Kevin Wagner does this year. All that talent and athleticism, but on a small frame.
I also want to see Jaron Nash, because he seems to have a lot of upside. Heck, they all sound interesting. I guess that’s why I’ll watch the games again this year.
5) No, not at all. I’m not a facebook user.
1. Prob. Swindall because he’s a senior and he’s done good things in the past, and then Kennard, since coaches think well of him so far.
2. Wild guess, but maybe Okafor. All three are good imo.
3. I’m concerned about him being new to the job, but I don’t think he’ll make the same mistakes his predecessor made. It’ll be interesting.
4. All look intriguing.
5. No, not on FB.
1. WHO WILL BE THIS TEAM’S TOP OUTSIDE RECEIVER?
Ward & Kinnard…they intrigue me the most and, I feel, have the highest percentage for success.
2. WHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SENIOR OFFENSIVE LINE STARTER OR WHO WILL BE THE MOST DIFFICULT TO REPLACE IN 2012?
Edwards because of his position and his abilities. He will be tough to replace. All are good, though and will be difficult to replace.
3. THUS FAR, WHAT IS THE MOST INTRIGUING THING ABOUT THE 4-2-5 DEFENSE?
Nothing except that I feel it fits our personnel better than the “D” used last year, which should lead to better performances across the board.
4. WHICH OF THE NEW BASKETBALL SIGNEES ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO SEE NEXT YEAR?
The three Jucos intrigue me the most, but Wagner could become the leader on the team quickly.
5. OT: DO YOU CARE IF I’M POSTING DTN POSTS ON DTN’S FACEBOOK PAGE?
Naaaa. I have a facebook account, too, but hardly ever go there. Old guard here.

1. WHO WILL BE THIS TEAM’S TOP OUTSIDE RECEIVER?
Eric Ward will show why he was so heralded coming in……and Darrin Moore.
2. WHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SENIOR OFFENSIVE LINE STARTER OR WHO WILL BE THE MOST DIFFICULT TO REPLACE IN 2012?
Lonnie Edwards, he’s the only one sure to start this year…
3. THUS FAR, WHAT IS THE MOST INTRIGUING THING ABOUT THE 4-2-5 DEFENSE?
Will Fehoko and Carmical revert back to LB, can’t see them getting any series reps at DE…
4. WHICH OF THE NEW BASKETBALL SIGNEES ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO SEE NEXT YEAR?
Not a fan, but if I had to choose one, Kevin Wagner due to being the only non made up name…
5. OT: DO YOU CARE IF I’M POSTING DTN POSTS ON DTN’S FACEBOOK PAGE?
Couldn’t give a toss either way….
1. WHO WILL BE THIS TEAM’S TOP OUTSIDE RECEIVER?
I want to see Swindall play well, then Ward…and the other two in that order more or less. I don’t have any illusions of a guy coming in from JC and suddenly being all Big12, although that might happen. Fundamentally, it is not about any one or two of them but the group of receivers that is important and that results in the best team for TTU.
2. WHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SENIOR OFFENSIVE LINE STARTER OR WHO WILL BE THE MOST DIFFICULT TO REPLACE IN 2012? All three have made their places, center is a very important spot on the OL. Everyone talks about the LT who is really significant in protecting a qb’s backside….center is the OL qb, he makes the calls. Our best run blocker is Edwards at left guard. Again I focus on the whole rather than the special person that the media likes to highlight.
3. THUS FAR, WHAT IS THE MOST INTRIGUING THING ABOUT THE 4-2-5 DEFENSE?
It is not so much the 4-2-5 that is special about this defense, from what I have read, as much as it is the way the secondary opperates…that sounds pretty special. That plus the notion that not a lot of people are running it. Think of Mike Leach’s Air Raid when it was really hot and something as special on defense…maybe this 4-2 is that defense.
4. WHICH OF THE NEW BASKETBALL SIGNEES ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO SEE NEXT YEAR?
Coach Gillispie’s ability to produce team basketball !!! That is what I am looking for. I must admit when we start bringing in guys who are 6-10, I get a bit interested in seeing them play.
5. OT: DO YOU CARE IF I’M POSTING DTN POSTS ON DTN’S FACEBOOK PAGE?
My facebook is pretty private, I am not one who jumps on every like and likes it. So I do not participate in all the apps and additional stuff. I do hope that it catches on for DTN and Seth.

1. WHO WILL BE THIS TEAM’S TOP OUTSIDE RECEIVER?
Torres was playing both inside and outside receiver during the spring and the end of last season. If he is put outside and does well i don’t see a reason why they don’t keep him there. He is the only proven great hands receiver. The others are unproven. I don’t see Swindall doing anything special.
2. WHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SENIOR OFFENSIVE LINE STARTER OR WHO WILL BE THE MOST DIFFICULT TO REPLACE IN 2012?
all of them
3. THUS FAR, WHAT IS THE MOST INTRIGUING THING ABOUT THE 4-2-5 DEFENSE?
not sold yet but we should do better than last year mainly because of the better D Line.
5. OT: DO YOU CARE IF I’M POSTING DTN POSTS ON DTN’S FACEBOOK PAGE?
don’t care
Whoever said, 'It's not whether you win or lose that counts,' probably lost.
1. Kennard. I would also think Ward will start to show signs of his ability.
2. Edwards.
3. I like the 425 defense for coverage purposes. I think this scheme will give our guys the ability to make plays on the ball. If we have a solid D line to stop the run I can only hope a secondary with that many defenders can force turnovers. Coach Chad is exactly what Texas Tech needed after last season’s defense.
4. I know little about basketball but I like the size of these guys coming in.
5. Don’t care at all.
"You've got to find your inner pirate" - Mike Leach
"We started too late" - Neal Brown
My guess
1. Kennard and Ward, then Moore.
2. Edwards
3. How we can make it work with average LB and no depth at corner.
4. Nurse. He might be our Rose.
5. Prefer not to get a bunch of extra messages. If I don’t, then I don’t care.
THIS fall . . .
1) Ward and Moore, Kennard just looked a step slow all spring, plus he’s “smaller” than the other two, doesn’t matter tremendously and he could make a lot of progress this summer and in fall camps (that’s why they come early :-)), but for now I’ll take the other two
2) Edwards, his consistency will be hard to replace
3) Loving the role of our safeties, we’ll see about the corners. Love the idea of everything we’re doing. Execution will definitely matter though.
4) As long as they play as a team, they’re all great. Recently we’ve had waaaaay too many single players. We haven’t really been struggling for skill, just consistency and "team"work.
5) I’m on facebook all the time . . . but also this site all the time . . . so, doesn’t really matter

Wow, that is a surprising vote result. We must be a bunch of old guys……
