I'm officially out until June 25th.  If I can, I might check in the comments, but I have no idea how quality the internets will be in Ethiopia.  I would very much encourage you all to write FanPosts or FanShots.  Help me help you . . . or something like that.  As a parting gift, here's a montage (shout-out to email sender) of a certain game in 2008 that will hopefully give you some happy thoughts.

God speed, Seth

I pray all goes well and you will each and every one return to the Great State of Texas intact as a family ready to take on all that is a part of that ongoing experience. We await your accounts of all that is going on and your experiences abroad, with love, concern and hope. Don’t forget to take a Texas Tech cap for your newest Red Raider.

Best wishes Seth...

I, like some others here at DTN, feel like we know you and I am sure that I can speak for most of us in saying that we are excited for you and I would like to say that I admire your determination in reaching for your dreams!! God speed to you and your wife….

Yes, God speed, and the best for you and your wife;

And thank you for the 2008 historic recap. Can’t wait to see what 2011 will bring the Tech family. I sure hope that Tubby can bring both winning and exciting football in the same breath. Damn, the Leach Era is one we will not forget for a long time. In fact, I really do hope that our new AD can mend the fences and bring Leach back into the fold soon. Sure wold like for Tubby to bring him in for a visit. We need to get past all this.

"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.

Good luck Seth

As someone who was adopted, I really appreciate and respect what you are doing. You and your wife are truely great people. Your child will be very fortunate to grow up in such a loving home. To tell you the truth, the day you announced you were adopting was the day I formally signed up on this site, although I’d been reading for years. God bless you and may He watch over you and your wife on your travels.

Hello Everybody,

Made it here safe. Yesterday we flew from Dulles to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 13 hours on the plane and as soon as we landed, we went to grab lunch and then went to see our boy for the very first time. Still can’t give any details or post any pictures until we pass court, which is scheduled for the 21st, but will as soon as I can. Seeing the little one yesterday was incredibly special and he’s being well taken care of by the nannies who take care of all of these kids.

Haven’t had much in the way of different food since I got here. There was an Italian influence here some time ago and as a result, there are a ton of good Italian eateries, and we’ve only had pizza thus far.

There is no doubt that it’s a culture shock. I knew that things weren’t going to be like they were back home, but we are in the capital city and most of the roads are not paved or finished and there are so many people who need so much it’s staggering and shocking all at the same time.

I’ll check in later in the week, hopefully with news that we passed court.

Cheers,
Seth

Good luck with all of the important matters.

Learn as much as you can about the life and history of your new son. It will pay off for you later when he reached teen age and starts to ask questions. Been there. Try the food, assimilate the best of their customs and culture. It is a part of your family now. Send a picture! and a name! on DT Facebook!

I heard from Seth this morning...the trip is going great so far.

Continue to pass prayers (or good thoughts) to him and his wife.

by Tech92 on Jun 19, 2011 7:44 PM CDT reply actions

Thanks again to everyone for the well wishes. Yesterday was a good day as well, got to see the boy for most of the afternoon and it was great to see him on Father’s Day. We have court tomorrow (FYI, we are 8 hours ahead of you all) so it’s Monday morning now, while it’s probably just after midnight for most folks in Texas. If we pass court, then I’m permitted to post pictures and the judge can be a bit tricky on whether or not she wants to sign the order approving the adoption or requests additional information. Keep your fingers crossed.

And there’s no way I’ll be able to do a DTN DD from here. I’m already so far behind with all of the recent commits. Will let everyone know when if and when we pass court tomorrow.

Cheers,
Seth

Hope that court went well today! While my wife and I were there we visited an AIDS orphanage and spent much time around time. Quite the experience. If you have time that you cannot be with your son, run by the Sheraton. It is pretty amazing. I hope the process moves quickly for you!

All,

A little bit of bad news, but it’s not too bad. Yesterday, we had court and everything was in place . . . except for a letter from an agency called MOWCYA, which we have to have in order for the judge to sign the order. The problem is that this agency is supposed to write letters for every adoption agency and there’s quite a bit of debate as to how many letters they are writing a day. What we were told is that they’re 20 to 25 days behind so we wouldn’t get our letter for a month and then we’d have to be scheduled for embassy, which is another 4 weeks. Because of the lengthy delay, it doesn’t look like we’re goint to be able to afford to have my wife stay here. It’s just too danged expensive. It’s a bummer and I can’t post any pictures or give his name until the order is signed, but it’s been awesome hanging out with the boy, it just stinks that we’ll have to leave on Friday and we won’t get to see him for 2 more months.

Really disappointed in Tuberville having all of these commits while I"m away, he’s such a jerk.

Cheers,
Seth

I am so sorry that things did not go smooth in court

.
That really sucks that you all have to wait another 2 months and that all of the paperwork was not ready.

That is just so unfair to the child and the adopting parents.

Have a safe trip back to the states.

I will keep you all in my prayers, that this is the last delay in getting your child home and in your arms for good.

Hang in there Seth.

Sorry to hear about the delay. I can only imagine how disappointed you and your wife must be at this point, but finally being able to take your son home will make it all worthwhile.

by TT63 on Jun 22, 2011 8:35 AM CDT up reply actions

The deal with MOWCYA is simply not right.

The consequences are much too harsh for that to be such a hurdle. Alas, that is the kind of things that happen. Seth, we all share your disappointment.

Before I opened DTN this a.m., I was thinking that this is an ideal time for DTN for you to be away. Lots of good news coming in about TTU and lots of good fan posts and fan shots. The site has been active without being stimulated by your efforts to keep something worthwhile to discuss in front of us.

But if it is that disappointing, perhaps you could talk with Tuberville before you leave again and give him opportunity to do a better job of scheduling commits !!!! ;-)

by TallMike on Jun 22, 2011 10:05 AM CDT up reply actions

That is so disheartening.

I know you both were really excited to finally be able to complete this adoption process. It is really terrible that such a distant agency that is actually vital in the process could not have found it in their hearts to notify you of how long exactly it would take to write this very important letter, long before you were scheduled to leave on your trip. This could have save you a lot of time and money, although the pleasure derived from actually seeing, holding and becoming acquainted with your new son has to rank at the top of the pleasure meter. I will be praying for MOWCYA to be able to speed up the process and enable you and your wife to consummate this “transaction” very soon. I also pray you all will be protected and well provided for spiritually, mentally and emotionally during this trying period.

He’s only 14 months and I think that he understands some simple Ethiopian words, he’s still figuring us out. It’s funny, he’ll give us a sideways glance and I think that he’s thinking in his brain, “who the heck are these people and why are they trying to make me giggle and laugh all of the time.”

Precious,

Simply precious!!! I’ve not seen him yet, but I can already tell he’s a real cutie!

by rose7 on Jun 23, 2011 12:18 PM CDT up reply actions

All,

Thanks for your thoughts, it’s tough but it’s one of those things in that had we known what we know now, which is that this agency is about 3 weeks behind schedule, we never would have planned for my wife to stay. Or perhaps to put it better, had we not had the expectation that this letter would be ready, perhaps our attitude would be a little different.

Now that we know that we won’t pass court while we’re here, we’ve likely decided that we’ll send my wife back when we do get that letter. We just couldn’t afford for her to spend an indefinite amount of time here without any idea as to when she would be able to be with our son full time.

Like you all have said, it’s a joy to spend time with our son, so it’s good to just be thankful for that time. And I know I say this a lot, but things happen for a reason, I’m convinced of that, and I firmly believe that there’s a plan for us and for him.

Like TallMike said, it’s great that you all are doing such an awesome job of keeping the community of DTN alive and well. I wasn’t worried at all and much thanks and appreciation to everyone for doing their part.

Cheers,
Seth

Sorry, but although DTN is alive and still breathing, it is just not complete without you back in the saddle. However, we are more than willing to share you with the mission you and your family are on. Your son is going to be very very fortunate when all of this works out, as it should. And we all have faith that it will. Hang in there, and keep your guns up!
