Crabtree Speaks
Why do I have the feeling things won't end well for Crabtree in San Francisco?

No problemo
The media is trying to make this a personal thing. Mike is trying to be a team player, whether it is how the media thinks it should be done or not. Besides, until SF has a QB that can actually throw decent passes to all the receivers, especially Crabtree, they will not do anything. You have to get the ball into the hands of the playmakers and the QBs for SF did not do that for the last couple of years.

I think Crabs just wants the ball;
Smith can’t get him the ball. Period.
"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.
both sides
I agree that Crabtree wants the ball and wants a qb that can get it to him so he can make plays. BUT, it shows a small degree on immaturity and failure to “get it” that he needs to be working out with his team, not at a park in the mountains with college players. Be a PRO Michael!
It’s the overall attitude that he seems to display that I think will be his undoing there. It’s clearly not a talent issue by any means. I honestly don’t think he “gets it” related to being pro and being part of the fabric of the team. He seems very Lone Ranger-ish. Being among the NFC leaders in dropped passes last year won’t help him win a lot of sympathy points.
(Aside…I was a bit surprised to see that Wes Welker led the NFL in drops last year w/13)
Isn’t this where one of the data gurus insert a nice table to normalize the data with a drops/target, drops/touch, drops/{insert least arbitrary stat}?
And, yeah. Either Crabs doesn’t get “it” or doesn’t understand how the media will do everything in their power to create a storyline. He’s been rather quiet and enters the news flow with these comments? Unfortunately, he’s not doing much to dispel the “prima donna” label.
Of course, if I were catching most of my passes in an area of the field where I was almost assured of having immediate hits, I would probably be hearing some footsteps myself….

Sounds Like
just a bunch of petty squabbling between two players. Im not overly concerned.

Crabtree's career
has been pretty disappointing thus far (based on a stellar college career). True, 50% of his problem is absolutely the quarterback. He has not even come close to playing with even a decent quarterback. Alex smith should be a backup at best. I am shocked that SF has done nothing to improve the QB situation via free agency/draft.
However, his attitude has done nothing to help him. Holding out on money, training camp etc.. is only hurting him. Would love to see him go to Dallas!!
Everytime the aggies lose an angel gets its wings!!!
I would love to see him land somewhere that has a good mentor he could work under. I’m not sure how much of a role Jerry Rice has offered to play with Crabtree’s development on and off the field (if at all). But if Rice has, Crabtree would be well advised to take him up on it.
I never once heard a rumor of Crabtree being a difficult teammate at Tech outside of the incident with that LB his freshman year (details completely escape my memory). So to see/hear of him acting in a slightly lone wolf and outside-the-team way is disappointing. And it’s been that way since he became a pro…strange…
A highly-paid Wide Receiver feeding team cancer-type quotes to the media
is basically blood in the water for anyone who wants to label Crabtree the next TO. Seems to me though the best primadonna wide receivers actually have some success in the league before they start backstabbing teammates in the media. Call it inexperience with handling gotcha questions or whatever, he shouldn’t say that and not expect repercussions. Reporters don’t put a gun to your head when they ask for a quote, there’s plenty of guys who play their entire careers without their words appearing in print.
That being said, I can’t say I blame him if he’s not wild about the idea of a 3rd year of ineffectual quarterback play. Alex Smith sucks and the 49ers would be better off cutting their losses and looking for an actual franchise guy.
This is the money statement for me -
