Coach Tommy Mainord (via TxTechAth79409)
I found a series of these videos and rather than post all of them at the same time, I'm going to randomly post these before the season. I think these were out-takes from the FSSW spring preview.

A few thought...
This guy will be a head coach someday for several reasons….recruiting and being born in this profession are the 2 biggest. Huge asset for tech.

Around the 35 second mark
He says “and when WE leave Texas Tech University, which I think is gonna happen too.” what do y’all think he means by this? Hopefully he stays for a very long time.

I didn't read anything worrisome into it.
Mainord had been using the plural pronoun when talking about his players and holding them accountable on the field and in the classroom. Graduation of these players and their success in life after leaving Tech obviously is a priority for him and the other staff. When he began talking about this goal, he kept using the inclusive “we,” which came out heartfelt albeit a little awkward.
Impressive young coaches
I jumped the gun and also watched the next YouTube video by Sonny Cumbie. Both young men really impress me as dedicated to Tech and the development of their players.
I found interesting in both interviews that there seems to be rule that Leach’s name cannot be mentioned. Mainord spoke of Spike Dykes by name then gave a strong compliment to the “previous regime” or words to that effect. Cumbie talks about his great 5 years as an athlete at Tech, but doesn’t mention Leach by name. What a pity.
I was glad to hear him talk about wanting these kids to become better men.
I had the opportunity to have a nice conversation with a former Tech player on a flight back from DFW to Austin. I did not recognize him at first; I just knew that this guy sitting next me was way too big for the MD-80 plane we were flying in. When we began to talk I realized it was Rylan Reed. Damn that dude is still big! It is nice to see Tech players making it, whether it is in the NFL or in the private sector like Rylan is. We talked about all sorts of things from some of the biggest Tech wins to some of the worst Tech losses. He still has a passion for the game that much was easy to tell…
One piece of information that I did find out from him is very encouraging. He talked about how Coach Tuberville and his staff have been reaching out to former players and trying to create a Family out of them and bring then in and keep them involved with the University and with Tech football. I can really appreciate Coach Tuberville trying to create, or keep together, that kind of a tradition with former players.
"There is no chance he will win, but if you think about it carefully he would be a pretty good candidate. He says a lot with no substance, he's proven he can be bought, he's dishonest, and he has the personality of a TV evangelist so I think he would be perfect in Washington!"-- Mike Leach (When asked if he would vote for Craig James for Senate)
I can't get my head around his name.
Is it man-wourd or may-nard or main-ord – am I even close? I just can’t get the name to play back in my head.

Excellent, thanks.
My first effort was Man-riod. -Ugh. Next I thought It could be French and I tried out a Mahn-Wah, and that didn’t settle to well either.
The guy seems promising, but we’ll see what happens on the field. I am inclined to believe his excitement about it all, anyway.

I have started working on a post, but won’t finish it this morning as I have a yard that needs to be mowed.

Lawn? You must irrigate it somehow, then. I never thought a lawn would be a good problem to have (until recently.) So far nature this year has complied with my notions. Even the weeds are having a hard time. I haven’t had to lift a finger for my tiny patch of dust this year.
Unfortunately it is a very bad thing, and my contempt for “grass for the sake of grass” is easing.
I should clean out last years stale gas from the equipment today though before gums up the works.
I even forgot what fresh-cut grass smells like. Enjoy the experience for us out here. All we really have right now is a few groundwater/well-watered parks, and the field-turf at the Jones, and that smells like a locker-room.
Most of my yard is dead and haven’t mowed foe three weeks. I really just water around my house since I have a pier and beam house and the house shifts when I don’t keep the foundation watered.
