TEXAS TECH
Former UGA coach Donnan files for bankruptcy || OnlineAthens.com
I decided to link this under Texas Tech as it appears that Billy Gillispie and Tommy Tuberville are both part of this alleged ponzi scheme. The article doesn't go into how much Gillispie and Tuberville lost.

Glasgow building Texas Tech 'D' for long haul | Rivals.com | Tom Dienhart
Excellent article by Dienhart on Texas Tech defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow and the implementation of the 4-2-5 defense. Quite a few quotes from head coach Tommy Tuberville about how the Big 12 has become a conference where offenses force defenses to play 5 defensive backs and having a base defense that has 5 defensive backs is an advantage. That's certainly one advantage, but after writing so much about the 4-2-5 defenses, the other huge advantage is that the 4-2-5 defense is something that can also match-up against a traditional run team, like Wisconsin, without much, if any adjustments. It still comes down to blocking and tackling. In any event, I liked hearing Glasgow talk about this:
"The last three years, we finished No. 1 in the nation in defense and every year we kind of had a different path or plan in how we did it. One year, we were a big man-blitz team, one year we were a zone-blitz team and one year we just basically played zone coverage. Being able to have those capabilities, to be multiple with our scheme and not leave kids on too many islands where they can't be successful, is one of the biggest things."
This is 100% true. TCU's defense isn't predicated on playing a certain way based on the defense itself, but playing a certain way based on the personnel and the opponent. That's one of the things that's made Patterson so successful.

Interception Rates (Fun Stat Nerd Tidbit: Miami) - Football Study Hall
As always. Great stuff from Bill Connelly and just in case you were wondering, QB Taylor Potts was so much better last year. Not perfect, but much better than in 2009. Potts finished 6th in interception rate (lowest) according to yards per game.
Uni Watch " The Old College (Football) Try
This was posted by johnlaw13 yesterday, but wanted to give credit to Uni Watch who posted the photo and included Texas Tech with a number of other college football programs who have changed their uniforms. Here's the uniform change:

And you can find a bigger version here. I'm guessing that the yoke on the jersey is different and as noted in Uni Watch, the wordmark and the numbers finally match, which I too think is a good thing. The numbers are red on the black and white jerseys, I also like that. The "Guns Up" on the back. Anything else that I'm missing?

The Arena Pulse: 2012 PF Jordan Goodman Makes Call Yet Again; This Time in Favor of Texas Tech and Jordan Goodman makes choice -- for the 3rd time - CBSSports.com
I'll have to work on this a bit later in the week, but Texas Tech and Billy Gillispie received their first commitment for the 2012 class. Goodman is a guy that's been around, I think he's been to multiple high schools, but is apparently incredibly talented, but may have some grade issues. And if you're looking for the connection as to how Gillispie knows about Goodman, Goodman played at Christian Life Center in Humble, TX. No stone goes unturned for Gillispie, especially in Texas. Goodman also committed to Rutgers, then de-committed, then committed to Georgetown, and then de-committed. The first link about his commitment to Rutgers talks quite a bit about his game and what he brings to the table. You can also check out his ESPN profile, which gives a description of his game, and I did find some YouTubery. There was also a ESPN Rise story on Goodman that talked about Goodman overcoming an auto accident when he was 11.

Glasgow
TCU’s D success comes from being a good team in a weak conference. Not belittling their accomplishment but it is easy to have low stats when most teams you play teams in conference we are made fun of for scheduling in non conference.
TCU’s implementation of the 4-2-5 is extremely basic, so they can tailor it to the strengths of the current roster or the specific team they are playing each week, but Glasgow was at best the 3rd guy in line at TCU behind Bumpass & Patterson. This is Glasgow’s 1st opportunity to make a name for himself. Our D the next 2 or 3 years will be all on him.
What about their BCS games and non con accomplishments?
I’d like to think the so called “scheme” they put together against Wisconsin was pretty workable.
And I believe every football team in the country tailors each game towards their opponent.

What am I trying to say?
I’m saying it is easy to get low D stats when you play 7 or 8 games a year against teams we get made fun of when we play one a year.
I’m saying TCU also played Tennessee Tech, Cal Davis, Texas State, and SFA in the non conference too, which helps the low stats.
I’m saying their BCS games are due to being a good team in a weaker conference. I don’t think I am saying anything earth shattering by saying going 11-0 in the MWC is a lot easier than doing that in the Big 12 or SEC. They lost to another non BCS team in one BCS bowl game. They put together a good game plan and beat an 11-1 Wisconsin team in the Rose Bowl. We beat the #4 rated 11-1 Cal team in a Holiday bowl when they were talking about beating us by 31 to prove they deserved the Rose Bowl over UT. We beat them more handily than TCU beat Wisconsin. That was a bad year for us too. I’m saying that win over Cal was the same as TCU’s win over Wisconsin.
I’m saying we made fun of TCU’s 4-2-5 in 2004 and later when A&M brought it in a few years later and when they scrapped it.
I’m saying Glasgow wasn’t the architect of TCU’s 4-2-5 & this year is the year Glasgow makes a name for himself, one way or the other. Hopefully he is like Ruffin instead of Lyle.
I’m saying just because we are rolling out a 4-2-5 with a former TCU position coach, doesn’t mean we are going to have a top statistical D over night, if ever.
I am NOT saying TCU doesn’t have a good D. I’m just putting everything into perspective.

Here, you need this...
I realize you’re not turning your nose up at TCU’s recent accomplishments, but I think credit should be given where credit is due. We did stomp TCU in 2004, badly I might add. In 2006 Patterson and Co. held our prolific offense to a field goal. He took what was given to him in 2004 and managed to shut Texas Tech down.

What ever their route to success last season, I would love to see TTU finish as the toads did.

4-2-5
I think Russian Coffee knows what he is doing…it’s going to be interesting to see how fast he turns the D around.

About Jordan Goodman
Since I found out about Goodman committing to Tech I’ve been reading articles about him.
Seems he was recruited by an assistant coach to Georgetown. The assistant left for Rutgers and Goodman followed him there. When the Rutgers head coach brought in Wally Judge from Kansas State (transfer) he decided to check other options and found Tech. Most of these very good athletics want to play quickly and, at Tech, if he’s a team man, that should happen.
He attended four different high schools in five years I believe. Probably due to his father wanting to promote his athletic abilities, for his kid’s future. His mom is deceased.
Hope it works out good for him here. He could be the best big man Tech has had in decades.
Thanks for doing the leg work
that is good info to know!

I liked what little there was to see of Goodman in the utubery.
He played with a lot of confidence, displayed good skills, and did his part in team play.

First of all...
Let me just say I loved The Jeep and his attitude. BUT…
Could we have stuck with a three man line even if our roster (i.e. more D Linemen) would have improved? Would it have been that much of a tactical error to do so?

Tech Uniforms
Just pick a night home uni (prefer all black), a home day ( white jersey w/ either black or red pants), and a road uni (don’t really care as long as it isn’t with white helmets). Please someone get rid of the white lids. Tell them they are made in China with lead paint!
