BIG 12 EXPANSION
Bailey says Big 12 will attract big names if Aggies bolt|myFOXlubbock | FOX 34 News KJTV Lubbock, Texas
Big names seems like such a far-fetched idea considering how this conference is crumbling, but President Guy Bailey seems confident:
"If they were to leave, we'd aggressively expand the Big 12. We'd go looking for one to three replacements. What we'd hope to do is replace them with someone outside our current footprint in the Big 12, somebody with great academics and a wonderful sports tradition. I think there's several schools out there that'd be interested. We don't think it'll be a problem. We think you'll be surprised, well, let me just put it this way: We'll be very aggressive and we think you'd be surprised with the results," Bailey said.

Red Raiders football notebook: Washington, Daniels will play | Red Raiders
Williams notes (and this is all in the first link with the film) per OC Brown that RB Kenny Williams is most likely not going to play as he's more of a feature back and they don't want to burn his redshirt on a handful of plays, while DeAndre Washington is a bit more versatile and will play, as will RB Ronnie Daniels. OC Brown also says that Alfredo Morales is making a push to be the back-up center and there's a chance that Le'Raven Clark could play this year. Also, for those of you on the RB Harrison Jeffers watch, he did return to practice after not being able to practice because of a bad back.

Rick Perry
As he is a diehard Aggie, Texas Tech will suffer greatly if Rick Perry becomes our next President. Just the presence of an Aggie in the White House (how sick would that be?) would give A&M a huge recruiting advantage in almost every sport.
Notes:
1. Perry has been a chief instigator of A&M’s departure to the SEC. That really shows how much he cares for the other Texas teams in the Big 12.
2. Perry wrote a book (“Fed Up!”) that condemned the higher education system in Texas (except for Texas A&M, of course) then later retracted it when he decided to run for President.
3. His big excuse: He said he really didn’t mean what he said in his book. That is like Hitler saying he really didn’t mean what he said in “Mein Kamph”.
whomever
Is the president….there are bigger fish to fry than their college loyalty.

Most presidents since 1988 have either a BA or JD from Yale
And their football teams haven’t benefited. Exposing the wider world to the cult-like behavior of Aggie Nation will just make the place a bigger laughing stock than it is today.

“We’ll be very aggressive and we think you’d be surprised with the results,”
The only school that would suprise me is if it was Notre Dame. If there was another big school out there that would join us in the big 12 they are probably already in a major conference themselves. This would start a whole new multi-conference musical chairs.
I expect BYU, AIR FORCE, OR HOUSTON, but those aren’t suprising. But on the other hand if they bring in a SMU or UTEP, that would suprise me. Hmmm.
"The trouble with quotes on the internet is that it is nearly impossible to discern if they are genuine." - Abraham Lincoln
Notre Dame
We might be surprised – they could be interested in the B12. I mean UT can testify how the uneven revenue sharing has benefited them and they could also use another “national powerhouse” to team up with to strong arm the rest of the league into more money for the two. When thinking rationally I would never dream of ND joining the B12, but if you think about the diabolical leverage UT & ND think they could wield then it might make sense for them to consider a “partnership”. I think TTU needs to start making our own plans. I at least respect one part of A&M to the SEC – they won’t let anyone else control their destiny and they are thinking for themselves. They might be making the wrong decision, but I can also respect someone that isn’t willing to be pushed around by the elite that is UT!
but...
Maybe Texas knows something we don’t. They said they are considering replacing the thanksgiving game against A&M with Notre Dame. Maybe they plan for them to enter the conference.

Agree
ND would be the only team that surprises anybody unless of course someone defects from an AQ confrence to enter the Big 12…….I doubt it.

Texas Tech only played Notre Dame once & it was the Notre Dame B Team back in the 1930’s. My parents & all uncles graduated from Notre Dame/St Mary’s, so I have been dying to see Tech play Notre Dame my entire adult life. In the Big 12 we would play them every year. Sweet.

Russian Coffee is the way to start the morning;
Love RB Ronnie Daniels enthusiasm. Two touchdowns per game. Love this kid.
Met Rick Perry at a function in Corpus Christi four years ago. I did not vote for the conceded Son of a Bitch. He’s a prick through and through. I own my own business, and he is bad for me, worse than the other guy.
Still prefer the Wool Sweater League, but do we really believe Bailey. I thought when your the President of the University leadership was a skill set. Guess not.
Can’t wait for College Game Day so we can move forward, again.

It re moving in with folks
There’s two ways tonlook at it. One is the cluster eff of living with old people but, two is you get a chance to spend quality time with them one last time before they’re too old. I stayed with my folks one summer while I was going to grad school at nearby Tarleton, it was an awesome experience to get to know them better. Now that Dad is gone and Mom is in an assisted living apartment, I’m so glad I had that one last chance to spend 10-12 weeks under the same roof.
Good luck and hope you at least save a boat load of cash towards your new life as a party of “three.”

Could ESPN and UT be positioning themselves to control the breakup process?
The picture is becoming more clear. ESPN and UT are simply positioning themselves to come out on top. Last year when Nebraska and Colorado departed, UT and ESPN were not ready to control the system. They did not want FOX or the PAC to control the system. In order to control the breakup process they convinced the smaller schools to stay. Now they have designed their control system and are starting to implement that system. TAMU announcing their probable departure is playing right into their hands. They don’t care about tradition, student athletes, or what is best for the state of Texas or the region. To them it is all about power and money. They will give a little more money to the smaller schools as long as they control the process and end up on top of the system. With Verizon signing onto the LHN they are only 1 or 2 contracts away from securing their future. If the Big 12 implodes then UT and ESPN control the options. Screw the other schools. They can either form a new conference that benefits them most or they can go independent with ESPN at their side.
Some of you out there are lawyers and businessmen. Am I on track with my thoughts?
Around here football is bigger than the state of Texas!

I get
That pit in the stomach feeling that Kent hance’s fecal touch turns everything to shit in a matter of time. BON is putting together conferences sans tech but including inferior schools…we need a non linear thinker who can find us a great conference and can pitch the greatness that is tech and it’s people.

Just for the heck of it I ask this...
Lets say we got rid of Hance, and we hired the worlds best admin, but that was all we did. Nothing else about our history, Lubbock’s population, the location of West Texas, or any other things changed. What would that person be able to do in this environment? Would they be able to magically get the Pac-12 to fall in love with us? Would they be able to lure the Big 10 into an invite? Would they move us closer to the SEC and get us an invite there?
Keep in mind that I am not a defender of this admin for many other reasons… I just feel like they and the rest of us have very limited options in all of this. I hate it! But it is true.
"There is no chance he will win, but if you think about it carefully he would be a pretty good candidate. He says a lot with no substance, he's proven he can be bought, he's dishonest, and he has the personality of a TV evangelist so I think he would be perfect in Washington!"-- Mike Leach (When asked if he would vote for Craig James for Senate)
First of all....
Just the mere act of removing Hance and hiring someone that is actually qualified to be a university chancellor would serve to announce that Texas Tech was serious about progressing. Hance is an anchor to progress, and I’ve yet to see where his supposed political clout has been an asset to the university. No, Hance is too busy swindling beloved coaches, hiring pariah political figures, and building chapels. You think any other major university chancellors (all trained and experienced administrators, most with Ph.D.s) take Kent Hance seriously? The man is the face of Texas Tech, and as Oldschool alluded to, comes from a school a thought where conformity is to be embraced, and innovation through independent thought feared.
It’s true, anyone replacing Hance would have an uphill battle. However, Texas Tech deserves a chancellor that has the skills, determination, and vision to see the route to the top. Not one standing on a packed prairie dog mound, yet fully convinced he’s atop Mount Sinai.
And you have to question what the admin really wants/belives....
If they really believe that the B12-2,3,4, whatever will be jolly and dandy with UT behind the driver’s seat and that other schools of good caliber will jump at the chance to join, then that will be what they are working towards. (And if we see an invite to TCU, SMU, or Houston as part of this “aggressive” expansion, I will throw up.)
If, on the other hand, the admin is outwardly projecting that image of unity and expansion within the B12 but realizing internally that the conference is doomed, then the admin would be quietly reaching out to secure our future.
So, it all boils down to what the admin believes. I sure hope it’s not just the party line we’ve been hearing. I know others have said not to worry about it because, despite popular belief, admin at this level will always be working behind the scenes to secure our future if the conference implodes. But for whatever reason, I have a hard time placing faith like that in some in the bell tower. In my mind, I see Hance and others really excited that the B12 might survive if we just add a few teams (the likes of the previously mentioned schools). That doesn’t color me happy.
"They challenged us. They said, 'Here, try to run past us, try to run inside us.' And they were better at preventing that than we were throwing and catching it." --Mike Leach
Yes.
Don’t fall for the talk ….. the feet will show you what they want and where they are going. It doesn’t seem to me, that it really has anything to do with the good of the University. Most aren’t good at doing jobs they aren’t qualified for.
Yet they didn’t jump at the “opportunity” to be on LHN. That move (or lack thereof) gives me some hope.

Location of the school is less important than location of the fan base
There aren’t enough college age kids in Lubbock to populate a 35,000 student university. The bulk of the Tech fan base/alumni are in the Dallas/Ft Worth metro area. Lubbock is the college town where Tech is located. But Tech is not Lubbock County Community College. I wish Hance & Bailey would wake up to that fact.
2011 Season - No excuses. Just win!
Couldn't TCU make the same argument?

Do all their graduates settle in Lubbock?
They don’t have many graduates because they are a much smaller private school.
2011 Season - No excuses. Just win!
I will add
That because of our lack of anything resembling a national following we will be judged by our location instead of a DFW alumni that no one can really quantify. Unfortunately for us when people think big media markets in Texas they are associated with UT and aggie.

What is it exactly
That worries you about the character of our school? What have you seen from the school outside of some issues in the athletic department that have you worried about it’s character?
"There is no chance he will win, but if you think about it carefully he would be a pretty good candidate. Kent Hance is the face of the University
What he’s done is break his own rules and the University’s policies … plus SACS, etc., and everyone knows it. The Athletic Department fiasco is but the glaring example. How is that in the best interest of the University? If that’s ok, let’s just slap Craig James on the back and cheer heartily for Nancy when he takes the field. But we don’t, because character does matter.
Kent Hance is not qualified to be a Chancellor … and that matters too.
As far as I can tell, the BOR hires the Chancellor.
The Chancellor picks the president. Now IS NOT the time to be in a state of flux as a university, IMHO. But if you are convinced that KH should not be Chancellor, and if you are right about his qualifications to lead through this tough time, you must start writing and calling the BOR. You have that right to organize a change.
RRaider5355...............
I could not find you definitifly ……………….. woe is me!
IT MATTERS, maybe not in the region, but in Houston and beyond it does. If you could only believe me. We are 5 minutes from the high school, and since ‘09 we’ve only gotten one application sent ……….. ……
And, we can’t ‘sell’ what we would not comfortably send our kids to.
Never underestimate how far away and the direction of Texas Tech is. It is a purposefull commitment.
With the ‘hit’ on TT’s reputation nationally – Leach vs Tech, the kids have a negative view and influence as well.
You, just tell me Kent Hance’s Chancellor qualifications. I’ll wait. He’s not qualified (according to me), therefore, any choices he makes for President, etc., is suspect.
Sure, We can voice our thoughts … and be relegated to the ‘delete’ file …
after-all, we’ve already been told he doen’t care for our imput!
Texas Tech has always needed to be known and known about … and it finally was. Kent Hance has managed it (Chancellored) it into a bad thing ………. not the best place to be; especially to send your children.
Help us here …. surely, Texas Tech can search for and find a well-qualified Chancelor. One that has only the best interest and future of Texas Tech at heart??
Isn’t Texas Tech good enough for that?
Houston
has shown much more vision in getting to Tier 1 than us….HOUSTON!
- I have heard Hance in person and my bs meter goes off the charts
#3-Two hires that I thought were great have baggage…Hocutt and BCG (and yes Hance involved himself way more than a Chancellor should)
#4-I don’t see a vision or clear moves being made for growth like we saw in a short period under Montford - I prefer my leaders in any organization to have been a success in the private sector…this is my personal test to validate that they are a critical thinker and problem solver.
I am working on 6-10 but don’t have all my ducks in a row. The above is enough for me for now to feel the way I feel.

For all, I believe you have good reason to feel how you do.
Not argue with you will I. Timing is everything. If there was a sure-thing next in line and ready to step in yesterday, then I would encourage you to follow your convictions with action. I am just scared, because until we learn what our future might be with some certainly, I am scared that now is not the time to be without a president and a chancellor. I may be wrong. I just want what is best for my beloved alma mater, and I don’t have any answers on what that is right now. I am more committed to my school and my former profs and my deceased dad who lived Tech football till his last day, than to any one single individual. I just started reading the web until I found out who hires who and then I spread that word. Now I am hoping we get through the next three years in good shape, sailing through a sea of stroms and sea monsters. There you go, I even made a Leach reference.
Everything is gonna work out.
There are just far too many fine decent people at Tech and in Lubbock … West Texas as a whole. Who knows, you may even be one to make a difference. I’m sure many out there are working on it in their own way. And, as you said, timing really is everything.
Besides that, I think this football season is going to be fun. A solid and talented team will revive fan’s spirits. I think we’ve got that. Too many fine (good-looking) Texas guys not to!
The key
is we are all aware of who the bor is and who the chancellor is and make it our biz. I actually think Bailey might be competent.
My observation is that the private sector offered Montford a top job and compensation. What offer do you think hance would have waiting for him in the private sector. Just my hot sports opinion.

Good luck with the move
I agree with Plano Jeff. Try and enjoy this time with your parents.
The Volleyball team lost to TCU last night but they beat UConn today 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-21).
I hope they beat Grambling State later today.
Go Tech!!!
.
NUTS - Never Underestimate TEAM Strength
Bailey is Full of Beans.
There will be no surprise joinder by anyone to the Big 12. TCU, SMU, Houston, Air Force, and BYU don’t count. In every instance, you’d be adding soemone who brings no national pizzazz to the table. Louisville? Meh.
Unfortunately, I likewise think Texas Tech has few options at this time concerning realignment. All Texas Tech can do to change this is win. Friends, family, and alums must buy tickets, donate if possible, and support the Red Raiders to help advance Tech’s cause.
Very happy to see walk ons earn a scholarship. That is a very tough row to how. Examples of how “want to” can sometimes beat “can do”. Talent doesn’t guarantee success. It helps, but desire and hard work play a huge role as well. This Tech team sounds like it busted its hump this summer and may surprise on the upside this year. Let’s hope. The need for having a good team couldn’t be higher. Guns up!

Time Warner?
Why would Time Warner carry the Longhorn Network and not NFL Network? I am sure they will carry if LHN/ESPN give them permission to do it a la cart only. That is why they do not carry the NFL network. I am not sure of Comcast. Unfortunately, Dish carries the NFL network and I am afraid they may crater and carry the LHN on the regualr package as well.
