REMEMBERING JACK DALE
# Thank you, Jack | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
# Totally Texas Tech: Saddle Tramps Honor Long-Time Broadcaster Jack Dale
Jack Dale was laid to rest yesterday, rest in peace. And if you needed to know how big of an impact Jack Dale had at Texas Tech, here's former Texas Tech football coach Spike Dykes at yesterday's service:
"I feel today just like I felt when John Wayne died, when my daddy died," Dykes said in a eulogy. "One of my real, real idols in this world is no longer with us. The funny thing about all that, though, is the people’s lives he touched will never, ever forget Jack Dale."
Make sure and check out the pictures from Totally Texas Tech where the Saddle Tramps wrapped Will Rogers and Soapsoads in all black. Dale meant a lot to Texas Tech, I hope he is remembered throughout this year, perhaps with a logo, maybe a microphone, on the player's helmets or jerseys.

Level tweeted yesterday that WR Javares McRoy will not be eligible to play this year due to transfer rules:
As @RedRaiderSports reported yesterday Florida transfer Javares McRoy must sit out this season due to trans[f]er rules. 4 to play 4 after that.
Ranking the Big 12's top 10 receivers - Big 12 Blog - ESPN
The Ubbenator ranks the receivers and says that IR Alexander Torres is the #9 receiver in the Big 12. Given Torres' injuries from last year (a back injury that didn't really ever get better) I'm okay with this, but I think that by the end of the year, Torres will be better than ninth in the conference.

Shame for Javares...
…having to redshirt, but I have a feeling the 4 in 4 will work out better for him with the logjam we currently have at his position(s).
I wouldn’t mind seeing his brother have a sophomore redshirt after his criminal misuse last year.
Jeffers’ back injury, does this sound the death knell for his playing time at Tech? If so, helluva shame, the boy has speed and talent..
I think
Jeffers was on a one way ticket to the dog house…..I just got a vibe from his tweets/fb. Luckily we’re deep at the rb position.
Its probably just as well McRabbit II sits out…he probably couldnt have picked up the offense in such a short time

Lady Raider Basketball program just got a commitment from a 6-0, athletic girl from Spring, Tx
She plays defense ! Active Forward who is undoubtedly pretty athletic…has a sister coming along who is a fair guard as a sophmore.
Welcome Shunta Nevitt to the Raider Nation !!
RedRaiderSports has me thinking that Giorgio Durham might be a football player in the make.
Reading about Harrison helps me understand his predicament….back problems.
This has to be a signature year for Eric Ward. I am beginning to look for, even expect, something nice for him this season…
Kennard also.
The information on Scotty Young is interesting…the part showing his connections to Graham Harrell and by association to TTU.

Jack Dale....
I know alot of the younger folks on DTN probably never heard Jack call a game but he really was one of the best in an era where there were many very good announcers for college teams……I still go to youtube to hear Jack from the TTU games in the 1970’s & 80’s…..Can’t wait for football…Free Scotty!!! Free Senor Scott muy pronto!

I asked this when we had this discussion (slightly revised for grammatical errors):
. . . But let’s say that Smith was suspended for skipping one class and was suspended 12 games. Does the crime fit the punishment in this case? In my opinion, probably not. But what if Smith did something that could have gotten him in some serious trouble. THIS IS A HYPOTHETICAL AND I DO NOT HAVE ANY INSIDE INFORMATION AND IS JUST FOR THE PURPOSE OF ILLUSTRATING AN EXAMPLE This is just an hypothetical, but let’s say that the coaches found a bag of weed in his room, enough to be in trouble for distribution. Rather than go to the authorities, the staff flushes the weed down the toilet and then suspends Smith for 12 games. If the coaches decide not to go to the authorities (which is an entirely different discussion, and I hope everyone ones that this is a hypothetical example) and not make this public, then releasing the information could get Smith is a ton of trouble and isn’t for anyone’s betterment other than to tarnish a kid that made a mistake, but has aspirations of going to the NFL. In a situation like that, I’m fine with Tuberville and everyone on the staff keeping their mouth shut about an incident and let the punishment stand at 12 games.
Curious if you all had an opinion on this hypothetical or if I just need to let this go.

You opened a can of worms Seth..
It’s a kick out of school level offense Seth – just based on the length (severity) of the suspension ie taking a whole season from a scholarship player; who was enroute to am All American season (IMO). The kid is good with that ? He is still training with the team but no gravy? No game time? No fun stuff just pain and sweat? Like you I have no intelligence or facts. Just being observant.
"do routine things routinely"
This was just an example, but the greater point is that what if he really did something to warrant the 12 game suspension. I don’t have a clue, but I can’t imagine that he’s not working and being on the team for some reason other than he believes that the punishment most likely fit the offense.

IF
he and HIS parents are on board with the suspension….then as much as I may not like it….Im on board too….

You know how I feel Seth;
I agree with you, but every day I read about other programs and the schools release information or it leaks out by somebody. When you carry over from one year to the next, and the kid stays in school and does not transfer, then I don’t think the crime can be all that bad.
The other issue I have is, and this is just my opinion, our HC has not proved to me he has anythinhg between the ears. I want to belive, and I’m there, but until he stop punting on fourth down, and calling on side kicks and making You Tube highlights, then I question his decision making. Plus, where is the video from Hance Pants showing the world what Scotty did wrong.
FREE SCOTTY. What I am really going to be upset about is that after four games if Scotty is still in the doghouse, then I fully expect news to released.
"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.
Maybe El Gato Pescado..
has something else up his sleeves? Bear with me for a moment:
- Scotty, when he played, showed more heart than any of us have seen at Tech since 2008.
- After the UT game (a game we should have won in Lubbock, regardless of how bad UT turned out to be, or how good we thought they were going into that game), perhaps tubby decided the season would be used for testing the waters (explains the Iowa St. game)
- Seeing Mr. Scotty as a very determined and driven player, he decides to bench (suspend) him, knowing the considerable time not playing will light such a fire in his gut, that when he finally plays, he will rape/murder/pilage opposing offensive lines.
- Tubs benches him for 4 games, Texas St., NM, NV, and kansas. Those games can and should be won without Scott.
- The 5th game of the season, Scotts 1st game back, is against the ags in Jones.
Do you see where I’m going with this?
I legitimately think if Scott Smith plays in the A&M game – especially if it is his first one back – he will actually kill an offensive tackle, pr at the very least, put that kid who played well as a freshmen last year out for the season…. And then he will maim tannehill.
The kid is a Bull in the chute, getting tasered in uncomfortable places, ready to destroy.

"Whether or not what we experienced was an According to Hoyle miracle is insignificant. What is significant is that I felt the touch of God. God got involved." - Jules Winfield
I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree. I personally think that there’s a really good reason why the information hasn’t been released as to his suspension, it’s not just for spite or a Tuberville power play. If you don’t think that Tuberville has it between the ears on the field that’s fine, but he has shown that he’s been pretty good in other areas, recruiting is a big one. Overall, I think that releasing the reason why Smith was suspended could do Smith more harm than good. As said before, if Smith wanted to leave and play at Div.-II football team he could have done so and he would have gotten drafted (I think fairly high as his stats would have been off the charts, possibly 3rd or 4th round). If he didn’t like the punishment, he had places to go.

It makes no sense to me why ESPN backs Craig James
They could clear their name completely by publishing a retraction on the Leach stories they ran & an aopolgy & that would be that. Now they would likely have to ask James to leave if they’re admitting his feeding false information to their reporters.
Craig James must have compromising photos of somebody very high up at ESPN, either with a young boy in bed or some farm animal. Are there any Aggie executives in Bristol?
If you're talking to Coach Rainman, whatever you do don't bring up the subject of weather.
Are they not also named in a certain lawsuit that may go to big dollars ? And mucho credibility ??
Living large in Texas...Texas forever.
I meant that the public apology would suffice to get Leach to drop the network from the lawsuit
The likelihood of any public figure winning a defamation lawsuit against a media company is pretty slim. Since he’s really just trying to clear his name rather than win the lottery, I do think he would settle for a public apology & admission of repeating falsehoods from ESPN.
Now the lawsuits against Craig James & Spaeth, well that’s personal. He’ll take those two suits all the way.
If you're talking to Coach Rainman, whatever you do don't bring up the subject of weather.
Free Scotty might be.....
just a agree to disagree…..I’m a huge fan of who ever is the TTU Coach(Carlen, Spike, The Cap’t, the South Plains Drifter) but I believe that if you have to suspend a player into the next season then to me that would be a dismissal from the team type offense…..Again 9 games in the same season seems fine to me but anything that crosses over past May and into the next season just is too long and the player should be released…..again I’m supporting TSPD that he has the right to do this but I’m just wondering if an incentive for the 2011 season would be to load up on things for Scotty to do and see if he completes all to show his rehibilitation……Wreck’Em Tech
Hypo or not
Coach Tuberville has a lot of experience in handing out discipline (assumed from his years as a coach). In this case where he believes it is justified and from what little we know so does Smith, I have to yield to the coach. Maybe SS doesn’t have too many options but being willing to loose a whole year of game time says he is not too unhappy with the punishment. The bright side is we bring an unknown into the first conference game that a DC has to guess about.
Yep its definitley going to be a surprise / challenge to game plan against a 6'6" Defensive end.. ..

AA-S had a write up on Seth Doege
I was not sure if you saw it.
No new stuff just the horns supporting newspaper view on Doege.
Of course they pick a picture of Doege being sacked.
I am excited about the upcoming season for the Lady Red Raiders. I think they will be a team to reckon with.

NUTS - Never Underestimate TEAM Strength
Jack Dale shall be remembered with fondness by everyone
Anyone who knew, assisted, heard or watched Jack Dale shall always hold his memories dear to their hearts. I have missed his amazing game presence since he stopped announcing. Like many, I would tune in on the radio to his voice, not to a particular station. Rest in Peach, Jack, for God is with you forever now.
Zoo will shine this year. He has great instinct and should be a key part of the offense all season. It is too bad Javaris McRoy must redshirt, but that just means we get to see him play for another two years after Ben graduates. Torres will be one of the top 2 or 3 receivers this year for Tech, with all have similar stats (He, Kennard and/or Ward or Zoo)
Jeffers may be done if his back does not heal. Such a loss of talent. I hope he has worked hard on his schooling just in case. The roster is loaded now, so if he does miss out, there is great talent available to take up the slack.
Worst teams…I am sure glad this guy never saw some of the teams Tech put on the field in the 60’s as some were pretty darnned bad. But his list of some of the latest worst teams is about right, although a couple of SMU’s old teams could fit in as well.
Mike Leach…You just gotta love him. Again, here is hoping he wins big against ESPN, James and Spaeth. I wonder if North Caroline has bothered at all to line him up for an interview. Now, that would be neat: Him and McNeil head coaching in the same state.
Women and Men BB teams will do well, but the women may go a tad farther in post season play.

Roster Countdown and our DTs...
I was looking at the roster countdown linked above, and both of our starting DTs are listed at only 260. With stopping the run being such a challenge for the 2010 squad, I’d think they would have made an effort to put a little more beef int he middle. What’s up with that?
Also… what’s Donald Langley’s status anyway? I seem to remember reading somewhere that he might have been off the team. Did I make that up?
