RedRaiderSports.com - 2011 Fall Preview: Five on the spot
The five players "on the spot" are RB Aaron Crawford, IR Cornelius Douglas, LB Sam Fehoko, PK Bradley Hicks and DT Chris Perry. It's tough to disagree with that group, although I don't know that Crawford is on the spot as I think that at this point, he's been such a good teammate and I think he's overcome a lot personally (I wish I could find the article I'm thinking about, but I just can't find it), he contributes no matter what the role and that's why I cheer for him.

CFT predicts: Big 12 standings | CollegeFootballTalk
The writers for CFT thinks that Texas Tech will finish 4th or 6th in the Big 12. I thought that this was an accurate statemetn:
As far as the third tier of the conference is concerned, take Texas, Missouri, Baylor and Texas Tech, toss them in a bag, shake ‘em up and pull ‘em out one team at a time, although I get this sneaking suspicion that I’m sleeping way too hard on the Longhorns.

TEXAS TECH BASKETBALL

# RedRaiderSports.com - Kidder joints Gillispie's staff
I think this is the last hire by Texas Tech head coach Billy Gillispie, which means that as of right now, Gillispie has hired or retained Chris Walker (Villanova), Bubba Jennings (Texas Tech), and Derrick Jasper (UNLV, as a graduate assistant) and now Kidder. If you just look at Kidder's record, it's sterling. Make sure and check out the RRS.com link as it has video of a press conference with Gillispie and Kidder. Kidder has gone 432 wins and 109 losses. That's just amazing. Kidder talks a bit about Gillispie:
"I have known coach Gillispie for a long time and the opportunity to work for him during his first year at Texas Tech makes it exciting," said Kidder. "I think we will put a product on the floor that everyone will be proud of. It is an exciting time for Red Raider Basketball. Coach Gillispie is recognized as one of the most highly successful coaches in the country and we have a tremendous opportunity to build something special here at Texas Tech."
And Gillispie talks about Kidder:
"We are extremely proud to have Jeff as a part of our staff," said Gillispie. "He is a total professional, who has experienced a great deal of success at all levels. He is an outstanding coach, who can recruit and most importantly, he makes a difference in the lives of young people."
The unfortunate part is that this move doesn't come without a bit of controversy. Kidder was the P.E. coach at Howard College and gave two athletes that eventually ended up playing at Texas Tech, A's on a P.E. course that they never attended. The NCAA investigated, but I don't believe that Kidder was sanctioned by the NCAA. Hat-tip to Brandon Rawe's Twitter, here's an old Chron article about the investigation. Kidder and Gillispie both addressed the issue yesterday, saying that this incident was 20 years ago and that Gillispie did his due diligence. Again, there's no disputing Kidder's record and success at the JUCO level, but this is just something to keep in the back of your big sports-brain.

“The five players “on the spot” are RB Aaron Crawford, IR Cornelius Douglas, LB Sam Fehoko, PK Bradley Hicks and DT Chris Perry. " This is micocsom example of the under achieving nature of the Tech teams not that they do (more done with less theme) but the falling short tendency.
As a team the runnning backs need to contribute 1000 plus yards; the wideouts except for 2 x guys last year under peformed; Linebackers were in disarray (Duncan as a DE ughhh..) Matt Williams is gone no regression allowed – please; Def Down linemen if ever a group is going to signal that the team has turned a corner it’s these guys much is expected here.
Coach Kidder. "I think we will put a product on the floor that everyone will be proud of. It is an exciting time for Red Raider Basketball.

Blackout
Was hoping Okie St would be the blackout game as that is the one game I’ll be able to attend this year. Now just hoping it is made a night game so we have more tailgating time. Plus nothing beats a night game in the Jones!

Eric Ward...
I’d throw his name in the hat, too. Not that he’s a Sr. or anything, but he came into our program with a lot of hype and highly ranked. So far, he hasn’t even been able to get a high and consistent amount of playing time. I’d love to see him make an impact sometime soon.

I think the athletic department needs to worry about winning games and selling tickets
before they make such a big deal about what colors to wear. I think having a vote for a blackout game is a good idea, it gets fans involved. What I don’t get is the huge push for fans to wear red, or in their words “RED” to every other game. We’re scarlet and black, so the fact that I wear black to every game does not make me a bad fan and I got sick of hearing it last year.
30 Days and counting;
This is the toughest time of the year. College Game Day is 30 Days away now. My appetitie for more news and discussion is growing by the day. This year has been really tough because of so much uncertainty.
Last year it was all about Potts, but this year, it is more about what the hell our HC is going to do. Are we going to run, pass, punt on fourth down with no time on the clock, how many on side kicks will he call, how will the defense do, how many times he will wear the glowing white helmets, the list goes on.
On thing I am certain of, my expectations are high, but my gut tells me it is going to be a really tough year. I don’t worry about Doege or Russian Coffee, but I sure do worry about my HC. Right now it looks like we are going to the shoot out with no bullets in our guns. And if we do, I don’t think we have any in the chamber.
How many times have we ever beat OU, Texas, and Missouri on the road. Like almost never. Then we have to beat OK State and aTm at home, which I feel good about, and then we can’t slip up against Kansas, KState, Iowa State, and yes, and then there is that Baylor. I just don’g see anything better than 8-4.
At 8-4 and a bowl win, I would be pretty satisfied, but go 7-5 and lose the bowl game, and I think we should chop off our HC’s head. I know he gets a pass until 2012, but if he goes 7-5 along with a bowl loss, he better damn well win the NC in 2012.
"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.
BTech good points ..I think you rightly talk about the truths we all fear.
The 9 game venue means no mistakes..If your goal is a championship ring. The slate being away with 3 of the 5 toughest opponents amps up the pressure and diminishes Techs chances. And yes sometimes we all think our head coach is crazy.. I.e. taking wild haired gambles when the Players don’t seem to be able to execute, practiced or ready for it.
But maybe the ball bounces right this year. Shades of the 2007 season versus OU i.e. no world class QB on the field for the Sooners and a meltdown ensues.
